Does anyone know if Stormalong Bay is scheduled for rehab the first couple of months in '03? Like Jan, Feb & March??
Say it ain't so!!!!:(

Where did you hear that it may be closed? I am going in January and staying at Beach Club, and I have a similar concern, since I am never very lucky with that sort of stuff! I have read posts that a part of StormAlong Bay has some rehab going on, but not the whole pool.

Anyone else hear anything?

I called to make our Feb reservations and was considering the BCV's. While talking to the CM she said that it was scheduled to be down Jan, Feb and part of March. She went on to say that we could use Luna Park at the BW during the rehab. I don't want to pass on bad info but if anybody would have heard this ya'll would. I wanted to call back and check with another CM but didnt have time. Info???

Well, unfortunatelty, that sounds pretty bad and very specific. I would believe it, since I been fully expecting to hear that StormAlong Bay would be closed when I am there in January!! :(

There won't be much incentive to stay at Beach Club in the coming months - with the rooms under rehab and the pool closed. But well, I guess wait and see if more information comes about this.

At least we can go to the Boardwalk and use that pool. That pool looks pretty cool, too. :)

UGH!!! This is my main reason for staying at the YC in January. What's the point of staying at the YC and then hiking over to the BW to swim. Why not just stay at the BW. I've got some calling to do!!

I just got off the phone with CRO and yes - SAB will be closed all of Jan, Feb & part of March. I have spent months planning a very special trip for myself and a friend (his first trip there). I had to convince him that WDW wasn't just for kids and he chose BC, partially based on SAB.

I don't know what to do, change the reservations to the Poly or what?

Vanyel

PS - my first post here but a long time lurker drawn in by the wonderful BC/YC FAQ.

I am thinking also of changing resorts! I was hoping for a couple of warm days in January so we could use StormAlong Bay, but obviously not now. With Beach Club under construction as well, it sounds like the WORST choice for a resort in early '03. Though we really wanted Beach Club so we could walk to Epcot for dinner each night. Oh well - I may be calling CRO soon ... :(

Also, I fully expect Space or Big Thunder to go down for rehab on like January 4th or something. That's a problem with January - many things are closed. :(

Even worse, the DisneyWorld.com website reservations is down, so I can't even "test the waters" and see what else is available!

Bummer ......! :(

Changed my ressies from BC to the Poly. Am a bit disappointed since this was my first stay in a deluxe and I've always wanted to stay at either BC or YC but the Poly was a close second. It'll be fun staying on the monorail and by the lagoon.

Luckily they still had AJE rooms available.

I too tried to get on disney.com to check availabilities before calling to change with no luck.

Sorry Vanyel - somehow our posts got merged together!

I am also hoping the AJE code or AP rate is still available for my week (Jan 12 -18). So maybe the Boardwalk or Polynesian for us ...! Even in January, we love to swim, so a pool is important to us. Got to call CRO!

Well , BTMRR was down 2 January's ago and Splash Mt. was down last Jan. ... so if I had to guess I'd go with Space Mt. this January!! LOL!

Anyway, I'm getting ready to call CRO right now, I'll let you know what resort I switch to. I already have Poly GV Concierge for the beginning of the trip. The concierge staff has been wonderful with our emails so far that I am tempted to just go there the entire trip. I'll be back shortly!

Our trip is Jan 2-7. The Poly was at the top of our list and the main deciding factor for choosing the BC was SAB in addition to the proximity to Epcot.

While I'm a bit disappointed, I'm looking forward to the Poly - who knows, maybe it worked out for the best.

The CRO said they just found out about the rehab. We're just lucky we found out before the trip instead of at check-in!

Good luck to the rest of you if you decide to change ressies.

Well I added another night to our Poly stay (which I am excited about) and switched to a 4 night stay at the BWI. I really wanted to try the Epcot area for once and like you said a major factor was SAB. My CM said that her screen said that the Pirate slide area is down for rehab but the pool is supposed to remain open. Small consolation, my boys want to slide!!!:bounce:

Besides, if they didn't think it was a big inconvenience, they wouldn't be allowing you to go to the BWI to use the pool while it's down.

I guess it's time to change my signature....................

I called the BC and asked about the upcoming rehab at SAB. The CM stated that "different parts of it will be down at different times"......"it will not be shut down entirely at any time".
Hope it's reassuring to some, I know it is to me. :D

I too have reservations in Jan. So I called and had a helpful person who read to me what they had. She said that the main slide will be closed from Jan to March. Some other parts of the pool will be closed, some open. They recommended the use of the "smaller pools". BUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!! That is an awesome pool and I really wanted to stay there for that. My kids would have loved it. I think I will have to change my plans. Thanks to whoever started this post. This is what makes this board so helpful.

Does anyone have a specific date in March? A few posters mentioned mid-March. I am taking a friend on March 27th for their first trip to WDW ever. I was hoping to be able to show her SAB for our next trip with the kids.

DD and I are sooooo disappointed   ! DD cryed. We were staying at YC for 1 night before our cruise because of the great code rates so we could finally swim in that pool and now we find out it will be closed   . I called myself because I just felt I needed to have the bad news confirmed before I change our reservation. When I called the YC they didn't seem to know anything about it so I called CRO and the CM checked and told me they would be closing the big slide on Jan.3 and that most of the rest of the pool would be open, closing down section at a time. Jan.3 is the night we were going to stay there:( :( . Now were thinking of switching to AKL or one of the moderates.

The CM at CRO told me til March 31. I wouldn't plan on it. You know how those things go...I doubt that it will be completed earlier than expected.

It constantly amazes me the different information that people get from the same place.

I called CRO 3x yesterday and got 3 different stories. The first CM said the pool would be shut down for rehab and that we would have to use BWI. The second (when I changed my ressies) just said that it was scheduled for rehab for our entire visit, Jan 2-7, and the 3rd, who was the most helpful and nice, read the notice from the computer and said that the shipwreck & slide would be closed for that time.

I, politely of course, unloaded all my frustrations about these inconsistencies and she sympathized and told me that she was noting this on my reservation and requesting that we get the best available room/view at the Poly when we check in. Hope it works.

I'm not worrying any more - the CM reassured me that the pool at the Poly was great and that we'd love it there.

The main reason I was worrying so much about this is because I'm going with my BF who's never been there before and was always convinced that WDW was only for kids. He picked BC when we went through all the pictures of the resorts and he really wanted the pool! My goal is to convince him, or let the world convince him, that we should make this an annual event!

Will of course report back after the trip with the results!

Yes, I am afraid this is true. The best pool of all - the pool of pools will be closing part of it down starting Jan 3rd. The upside is I am hoping they are making it better. But if you are staying at the BC from Jan 3 - to Mid March you should take this into consideration now so you wont be disappointed.
