I have in laws and friends in Cape Coral, FL. I talked to my MIL around 5 pm yesterday and she said they were now waiting for the storm surge (they live on a canal). She sounded pretty shaken up from the passing storm. We haven't heard from our friends which live on a much larger body of water.

I haven't found a decent site that tells what the water is doing now, just what was predicted. Does any one have information about these storm surges in the Cape Coral area?

Thanks,
Karen

even up the coast........Like New England ......the water is a fury .....a few years back....two people were swept off the beach in Maine from the powerful surf that occurs when any major weather system comes from the south........even when it is occuring in the south.......so please everyone ........the surf may look so beautiful but be very very careful

Here in Maryland, we are under a Flood watch right now, and it will continue through today. Luckily, the storm changed direction, but we are still waiting for the effects... heavy rain, high winds. We'll be going outside in a bit to take down our patio umbrella, and stack all the chairs. Just precautions.

My son is a beach lifeguard here in nj and they've been keeping a close eye on things. He was also told to go purchase these flipper things, that they were needed to do rescues during hurricane season. He spent $80. on these things. Since the storm is coming up the coast today and tom. I imagine he will be super busy today. Other son was surfing this morning and said he had never seen the ocean so crowded with surfers. Here in NJ hurricane season is the only time they get waves.
I am still waiting to hear from a few relatives in fla. and hoping all is well. Depending on flood predictions we may have to move our cars to high ground too.

Tiggeroo: I was on the beach in Seaside about 3-4 weeks ago and in my entire life I had never seen as many rescues, as I did that day. I was there for about 5 hours and during that time the lifeguards had to do about 8 different rescues. Unbelievable :( I think there was a riptide that day. I hope your sons stay safe, and tell him "thanks" for being a life guard!

In the bay area in Maryland we are due to get 25-35 mph winds and 1-4 feet about average tides. DH went to take out boats out of the water but the marina manager said they will have staff to continuely adjust the lines on all the boats. We did take down our umbrellas and put our glass topped table away from our pool. After what we went through with Hurricane Isabel last year, this should be a piece of cake.

Where in NJ? I'm in southern Ocean County...between Seaside and LBI
Ocean City. Dh is from Seaside/Lavalette and we lived there when first married.
His job makes me very nervous, but I'm proud of him. It's been great for him teaching him responsibility and giving him maturity.

There was one day here a couple weeks ago where there was a record number of rescues. He works the busiest zone and his beach had over 25 in one day.
My son's surfing makes me especially nervous. They all go out right before and after these big storms.

Ocean city is my family's favorite vacation destination in the summer. Tell your son to be safe and that we appreciate his dedication too our safety.::yes::

Tiggeroo--thanks for the nj update with the ocean..my brother is there now right next to Lavelette...we go down there every weekend...
