Storm delays, question

Delta will do a "same day change" for $50pp. Show up early, ask if there's room on an earlier flight and if there is, they'll change your flight for $50pp. I don't know if JB will do that or not.

Obviously if the airline waives the change fee, all the better, but this might be another option for you.

There is a same day change option, I’m debating if I should stay up to midnight and try to change to the earlier flight. This is an option, however if that flight ends up being the canceled or delayed one then what?!? I’ve seen where the earlier flight is canceled later gets out, and I’ve seen the reverse....

I think as it gets closer I’ll know more.

Delta's is a confirmed booking on the earlier flight, it's not a standby. So I would assume if you book on the earlier flight and it's cancelled, they'll try to get you on the next available flight (along with everyone else).

Same for JetBlue (I’ve done it a few times). But my worry is if i move to the 8am flight then the 8am is canceled and my 10:19 isn’t and I’m rebooked on the 5pm. Would have been better to stick with the original flight even if delayed. It’s a catch 22, can’t predict the future. Just need to make the best educated guess.

Have you called JetBlue yet? I'm wondering what their official word is.

I did and the lady I spoke to was really nice. But no advisory yet, so if I change I need to pay the change fee and diff in ticket cost , I’ll call again tomorrow and Wednesday. She said usually 24-48 hours in advance but can be more or less depending how bad it is.

Me? I would try to get there early to take the previous flight but not actually take that if the fee has not been waived by then.

At least the storm would not have delayed my getting to the airport to miss my original flight.

It is quite common for, in the case of snow, planes to not come in to spend the night there. So the last flight in of the previous day is cancelled as well as no planes there to start up service when the airport re-opens after the storm ends.

Thanks. That seems to be what everyone was speculating. Good to know from the source.

Called again today cause I am stalking them and the weather, lady was nice today but not as nice as yesterday still nothing.... holding out hope the weather still shifts for the better

Is it still forecast to be a rain event down there?

Yes still Rain, but the high winds is what’s worrying me. To be honest i doubt there is going to be a fee waver, from what I am tracking it looks like really bad for 5-6 hours and then looks ok. So if I get canceled we will hopefully get on a later flight.

In my experience and I’ve been flying over 40 years on business and Leisure Flights airlines are not going to allow you to change flights without fees unless there is big weather coming like Tornados or hurricanes something that is pretty predictable. High winds and rain wouldn’t be considered that big of a deal. I’ve actually only had one flight cancel far enough ahead to refund all our money and that was the predicted hurricane in puerto Vallarta Mexico a few years ago. And it turned out not being much weather anyway so we could have gotten out easily.

A girl can dream! We have had some
bad weather around here this year, JetBlue has waved fees 5 or 6 times so far this year (per their website).

Obviously in an ideal world we get out on time or slightly delayed.

What’s consider heavy wind? It’s saying gust of 43mph, but stead 18-20.... honestly I don’t mind a small delay just really hoping I’m not canceled fingers crossed
Worrying about nothing. For airlines those wind speeds are not an impediment. They take off and land in those constantly. If they didn’t there would be no air travel. So stop worrying about this, it’s not heavy wind and don’t call the airline constantly about something that isn’t a concern.

So happy I called back today! I got the nicest customer service rep ever! She checked and still no fee wavers in place, but since I booked so long ago and my flight time has been adjusted she waved the fee and moved me to tomorrow!

Leaving mid day tomorrow so much to do! Thank you everyone for all your helpful advice, so happy I called back. Delta had already announced they are waving fees so I was hopeful!

So happy for your positive outcome. I know how nerve racking it is to wait for a weather waiver.
Have a great time!
