Just found out we are having our first baby!! :scared1: and

Starting a bit later than most, I'm 37 and DH is 38 - after seven years of marriage and taking no preventative measures, we are finally pregnant! Due in October!

So what do I need to know - I mean I'm all set doctor-wise - but I read a diaper thread on the budget board about the pros and cons of stockpiling diapers - which would never have occurred to me...so I wondered what other things should I be thinking about...that haven't crossed by mind yet...

Thanks in advance

Congrats!!

I'll suggest my favorite book:
The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy

And also suggest you join the Mommies to Be thread.

I highly suggest you put off buying much of anything until after your baby shower! And do your best to resist buying clothes. You get SOOO many that the kid will never wear.

Gowns are the best for infants. Between sleep depravation and diaper changes, simply pulling up the gown is soooo much easier than snaps or zippers.

I could go on forever.

Favorite websites:
Baby Center
WebMD has a nice baby section

:woohoo:CONGRATS!!!:yay:

Def wait on buying clothes! Sleepers and gowns is mostly what mine wore for first 5 to 6 months. (have a 5 month old now)

they outgrow the newborn diapers FAST!!

I personally like the Avent bottles for bottlefeedings. I hate buying liners for the platex bottles.

Boppy pillows are awesome!!!

Congrats :) Best wishes for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy and happy baby!

I would not stock pile diapers, you never know what kind of diapers will work for your little one, for instance I can not use huggies for Will and my sister can't use pampers for her LO. One suggestion I found was to buy gift cards to places like BRU, CVS, ect for diapers. Now that Will is older and has been in size 3 for what seems like forever, I buy in bulk from Sams. It's also hard to predict what size they will be in, Will wore newborns for six weeks, while some babies never wear newborn! Good luck to you! I was 35 when I had Will and we are TTC #2 right now, hopefully I will get PG soon and have the baby when I am 37 also!

Congratulations! I had my DSs at age 40 and 42, and other than the extra tests they want to do and that label (advanced maternal age-really?) they put on you, everything will be fine. :goodvibes

The Baby Book by Dr Sears. I love his Pregnancy book too!!

www.kellymom.com for breastfeeding info.

I am in a warm climate to I don't use a lot of sleepers, but I use a lot of onesies and matching knit pants.

I don't stockpile diapers either, you never know what your baby will pee out of, what wipes might cause a rash, etc.

Congrats!! :-) So exciting. I wanted an October baby sooo badly ... I have one April baby and will have a March baby!

Ohhh so exciting!!
I'm due with my 3rd in September! Lots of lemonade in the shade for us this summer!
Shopping for all the stuff is my fav. part of being preggo. Here are my must haves this time around!
Ergo baby carrier
Maya wrap (seems granola, but ohhh so comfy for you and baby)
Bumbo
Nursing cover (with the strip of boning in the front so you can peek in at baby) You can easily make your own, or etsy has some super cute ones.
Diaper wallet so I don't have to lug a ginormo bag around all the time (again you could totally make your own, or buy one off of etsy)
Nursing Braclet! (you may think these are silly, but when a newborn nurses a lot, and you sleep very little, it will be hard to remember your name let alone what side your baby last nursed on and for how long!)
And lots more....So fun!!!
Oh and we swear by Britax carseats! Kinda' pricey, but very safe and super easy to use!

Oh my! The Boppy is a MUST have! I love that thing!

I really don't have any advice, since my "babies" are 31 and 33 years old now I've pretty much forgotten a lot.

But I just wanted to say congratulations to you, and I hope you have a very easy and smooth pregnancy.

Also, when I first read your post I said to myself "oh my goodness, I was a grandmother of a 1-year-old at her age!!" :rotfl:

You got started late, we got started early. :)

I agree with a lot of what Monkey posted!

I still use my Boppy with my 8 mo old. :) A nursing bracelet is a great idea, you switch from side to side to you know what side to nurse on. I have a Cafe AuLait nursing cover (with the boning) and while I don't use it much, it does come in handy sometimes.

I LOVE my Ergo though you really can't use it until 4-5 mo old, unless you get the insert.

I had an end of October baby myself at 37. Congrats!

Tips-

Register of Similac, enfamil, huggie, and pampers web site so you receive coupons.

When you register for baby gifts do not put so much on there that confuses people. By that that I mean tons of small stuff, half of it you won't use.

When you choose your large ticket items like strollers, pack & plays and highchairs choose neutral colors if you are going to have more than one child. Next time it could be the opposite sex and it will make reusing these things better.

Chairseats - I also recommend Britax!

Strollers- I recommend the City Mini Baby Jogger . It is great to travel with. Do not waste your money or anyone else's on a travel system. They are just to awkward, & heavy.

Bottles- I love the Dr. Brown's.

A healthy and happy pregnancy to you!

Congrats to you both! Agree on not stockpiling diapers for previous posters reasons. You can however stockpile cloth diapers - used for burp/spit-up/projectile fluid cleanup - you'll need lots of those and they all work fine!! :rotfl: I think I lived for 6 years straight with one of those on one of my shoulders....congrats and here's hoping you have a smooth pregnancy!
