We'll be coming to the Fort from Minneapolis in the end of November. Planning on stopping for the night to thaw the trailer in Valdosta, are there any campgrounds you'd recommend in the Southern GA area? Just looking for the basics-- safe, quiet, reasonable $$$.

I've stayed at the KOA just south of Valdosta, GA. and found it to be clean, quiet, easy on/off the freeway and reasonably priced.

It's probably not an issue if you are towing but for those of you driving down I-75 toward the Florida-Georgia line around Valdosta it is SPEED TRAP CITY. :cool2:

Watch your speed, get some free orange juice at the Florida Welcome Center, then arrive safely at the Fort. :car:

Hey G5s,

We make the trip from MN to the fort every year (sometimes twice if we are lucky) we have places we stay year after year. Let me know your route and I would be more than happy to discuss where we go.

I will try to PM you with my email address.

We stay at the KOA in Cordele (on our return trips) and Valdosta (delayed 2 days on the way down due to hurricane in 2007). We travel from Northern Illinois. KOA is always consistant and good value, you know what to expect. no suprises.

Cordele is a bit north of Valdosta, but this campsite is nice. We stayed there on our trip down to Orlando in January. Large sites, friendly staff, clean. I would recommend it.

We always stop at the INN & Out RV Park in Lake City FL. It's about 50 miles south of Valdosta and puts you that much closer to the Fort. It's about 1 1/2 mile east of I75 on US 90. Nothing fancy, but for an overnight stay it does the trick. There's a WalMart, Lowes or Home Depot, and all the fast food you can eat nearby.
