hi everyone! Although I'm new to posting on the DIS boards, I've been lurking for quite a while & have found this site to be very useful...so thanks for all of the great tips!

I do have a question about strollers -- and since this board seems to have so many knowledgeable parents, I thought I would start here. I will also post this over at the DisABILITIES board, too.

First, a little background-- I have had rheumatoid arthritis for the last 38 years and have had many, many surgeries, including joint replacements. We are so blessed to have a health, happy and active 2 1/2 year old boy. I manage to keep up with him fairly well, but he is quick! :)

We are going to WDW from 9/21 to 9/25 and are staying at the Contemporary. This is a multi-generational trip (me,DH,DS, my mom & dad & my MIL) and two of the grandparents will be using mobility scooters. (Part of the reason we are staying at the CR is because of the convenience of going back to the room to rest during the day -- and ease of use of the monorail)

Here's my dilemma -- I know we will need to have a stroller for our trip. DS is 3 feet tall & 37 pounds -- he is definitely too much to carry for very long, especially very far -- even for DH! We have a couple of strollers I use at home (a nice comfy fully-loaded easy to push--but heavy-- one for the mall; an easy to fold light weight harder to push one for quick trips) but neither seem right for this trip. One is too big & heavy -- the other doesn't steer well. I know I will be the one who does most of the pushing -- holding onto the stroller helps me walk when I'm tired/hurting.

any suggestions for a light weight, easy to push, easy to fold & handle stroller that I might be able to find in one of my local consignment stores? We have a lot of great re-sale shops but I'm at a loss as to preferred brands, features, etc ! I've only been to WDW twice -- neither time with kids!

Thanks for reading this long post -- and TIA for any help!

Maclaren all the way!!! Well worth the extra money. It steers easy, has higher handles for taller parents, holds a child that large, reclines, has a small basket underneath, AND the best part for Disney is that it folds up like an umbrella stroller.

I would also vote Maclaren. The nice thing is you can collapse it very easily just by using your foot - so a one hand collapse. Very easy to steer, very light weight. Ideal would be a Quest or Techno, as they have better recline. They are a bit heavier, but still about 15lb. I have a Triumph, which still has some recline. I'd stear away from the Volo - no recline.

thanks for the suggestions! I think I'll head to Babies R Us (or some other big baby store) and "test" these suggestions -- then get on freecycle & craigslist to look for one --- CHEAP! I appreciate the help!

Another vote for Maclaren.
I am not sure of the model I have, but it is one step above their lightest umbrella stroller. It has a small basket, rolls great and seems to be comfortable for my almost 4 year old.
The cheapest I found was from a dealer on Ebay that sells new Maclarens. I also LOVE the color I got- it's red, very Disney, don't you think? ;)

seeing that you are on the monorail you never have to fold your stroller down. Why wouldn't you take your deluxe big stroller for greatest comfort? :confused3

but I also vote with everyone else on the Maclaren

Thanks again for all of the suggestions. To the PP, we will not be using the monorail exclusively -- sorry if that was confusing. My understanding is that to get to AK or DH, you must take a bus. Maybe I have misunderstood this. If so, could someone please set me straight?!!

Thanks!

p.s. I expect we will also go briefly to downtown disney & the boardwalk, and I think we will have to take a bus to either of those, right?

I tried out the Maclarens-they are smaller than the stroller I bought, but I thought my niece had little room in it compared to the Perego P3 that I bought.

She loved the huge suncover, she was up higher off the ground and could strech her feet out and they didn't drag or touch the wheels. I liked the extras-parent cup holder, child's tray, rear footboard.

I bought mine from www.albeebaby.com

I have also heard that a lot of people like the City Mini.

I highly reccommend the Maclaren Volo. I used my SIL for 2 trips and just broke down fand purchased one on Ebay for 4 yo DD for our upcoming trip to WDW Labor Day w/e.

Maclaren! And I second to check out albee baby if you want to get one new.

I got the Maclaren Triumph for $110 at BRU on a clearance deal a few weeks ago. They only had red/black and grey/orange left. Great deal for us. :goodvibes

DD is 3 and we are going down in November. We had always been happy with our Graco stroller, but it was HUGE! We ended up buying a Maclaren Triumph off ebay (new) for about $90 includind shipping.
