Stockings for adult children

Adults - small gift cards come to mind this moment - gas, subway, starbucks, etc.

lip gloss
cartridges - another expensive items
after shave
clear nail polish/filers/bath sponges

Everyone gets them regardless of age and if my mom has it her way we open them last.

I kept doing them for a couple years or so after DS got married, but then it just got too difficult to think of things to put in them. Stockings for the grandkids are so much easier. :) I haven't done them for the adults in several years now.

My mother in law filled stocking for each of us when we were at her house Christmas morning and tucked stocking-stuffer sort of things in amongst the "big presents" when she had to mail stuff to us. "Stocking stuffers" were wrapped in tissue paper and marked to be opened right away- things like Christmas socks we would use in Dec. Other gifts in regular paper, do not open til Christmas. I miss her. :(

We have family Christmas with my mom the week after Christmas. No "stockings", but everyone- grandkids, adult children, their spouses, random people off the street that seem to show up as tag alongs to someone- get a little a gift bag of stocking stuffer sort of things- candies, chapstick, cool pen, etc.

Until recently, the holidays have been pretty much spent w/the ILs. Everyone has their own stocking, which is brought to whichever house is hosting, then everyone contributes to the stocking. Usually, some candy from MIL, something obnoxious from SIL, and some sort of giftcard from DW.

Stockings know no age/residency restriction.

My mom still does one for me and when I got married, she added one for my husband as well. But then again, the cats also get stocking gifts from my mom; she just like doing them.

My family loves stockings! I expect that I'll continue to receive them from my parents well into my 40's.

I bought my daughter and her then boyfriend cowboy boot stockings when I saw them one year at TSC and thought they were cute (by that time, he had been around for a few years ;)). They bring them to me every year (married for two years now), and I refill them.

I asked for them a couple of weeks ago, but they haven't turned up yet. I think son-in-law will make sure they get here though. He seems to really like it! :rotfl2:

I do. When the 2 older ones became teens they started getting stuff like razors, body wash, deoderant, chapstick, etc. I still put in a little candy and fun stuff, but it's mostly HBA stuff. Since they are responsible for buying their own stuff like that, they really appreciate being stocked up on Christmas.

Mom still fills my stocking and I actually do one for her (I didn't think it fair she didn't get one!). My boyfriend's mom (whom we spend Christmas Eve with) also does a stocking for me.

My mom still does stockings for myself, my husband, and my brother. I do stockings for my husband and my mom. My husband is supposed to do a stocking for me (altho this year it looks like it just got mixed into other presents... sniff).

LOVE stockings!!

I do stockings for my three grown children, son-in-law and two granddaughters and anyone else who might be at my house on Christmas Day. It is one of the things I truly love to do. I always give my kids Disney pens, and if they are lucky, a Disney watch. Also, lottery tickets are good stocking stuffers, batteries, chocolate santa or gold covered chocolate coins.

Same here! I have bought a few things for my own stocking, since it would look funny to my 4-year old that his and Daddy's stockings had several of the same things, but Mommy's doesn't. Last year my husband forgot and I had to split the candy and things I had gotten for his to put something in mine. Just reminded him that Santa better not forget Mommy's stocking this year! :)

Do you do stockings for your adult children? If not, when did you stop?

I'll have to get back to you on that.

My Mom makes stockings for everyone, the first Christmas they are in the family, so everyone has a stocking (or two - for those kids who also made stockings at some point in their youth activites).

This is our Christmas a couple of years ago:

That's stockings for DH, me, and 3 kids (18, 21, & 22 at the time). And Santa still puts stuff in them.

:cutie:

My MIL fills stockings for me, dh, his stepsister, her dh, and my boys. We never keep the stockings, she reuses them. I think there have been a couple years she has told me I could take them but we all have matching stockings at home.

For adults, usually Godiva chocolates, chocolate orange (yuck), gloves, wallets, anything that will fit.

Lol... I bought stuff for mine too!

We do stockings for me, DH, my Mom, my Father in Law and our DD (27) & still in school and the cat. This year, DD's boyfriend will be here for Christmas, so he will get a stocking too. We put in $5 Starbucks gift cards, socks, notepad, hand santizer, hand lotion, ink pens, candy, etc.

My In Laws stopped filling stockings for DH and his siblings when DH was 28, or 29. Around this time we'd been married 3 years, and his sisters started getting married. MIL hangs stockings on her mantel, but it's just for decoration.

In our house DH, me, and our dogs all have stockings, and they all get goodies! :santa:

We open stockings Christmas morning, along with the presents under the tree.

I will do stockings for my children, and their future spouses and children til the day I die. It is one of my favorite things. Although, I may have to purchase smaller stockings. I ordered ours online and they are HUGE!!! It takes a lot to fill them up.

I still remember when my mom stopped doing stockings. She told me it was getting too expensive, and she wasn't going to do them anymore. I understood, but stockings were one of my favorite things about Christmas. I really missed them, and love doing them for my kids.

I am 37 and everyone gets a stocking. Mom has all the matching stockings and there is always fun stuff in each stocking. Sister is married with kids and they all get presents as well as a stocking. We always open stockings last and there is usually always something special in the toe. Growing up I can remember a year when Cabbage Patch Kids were THE thing and in the toe was the “adoption papers” for a wonderful CPK doll. Another year was a ring. Last year I got a cut out of a Kitchen Aid mixer and a gift card for the appropriate amount. I live a 1,000 miles away, so wrapping a mixer wasn’t practical. Most of the stocking stuffers are small things such asa toothbrush, favorite candy, nuts, note cards, etc.
