We just got back from WDW, had a WONDERFUL time!! We had our 3 kids + 2 friends, and also another family of 4 with us...loads of fun!! They all left after 8 days, which left me and my DH there alone for 4 days! We had an even better time!!
Stitch (10/24) opened Sunday when we were there! We waited in line like 15 mins...the pre-show has the same robot guy, and the same fuzzy yellow guy being teleported because he is a level 1 prisoner. The robot goes on to explain there are 2 levels of prisoners, level 1 and level 2. The "beefy" guy comes on the screen to tell the robot there is a level 3 prisoner coming in and to get the "recruits" (us) ready. We go into the room, sit down, and it is Alien Encounter softened up. Cute little Stitch appears, gets loose, and does all the goofy things with the seats. Instead of eating people, he eats their food. He bounces on the seats...all the same "effects" as AE, just softened up for the kids.
Personally, I enjoyed the thrill of AE, but I guess Disney accomplished what they wanted...a kids ride. There is more, but I don't want to ruin it for anyone.
It was cute, but we wont go on it again.

I have to say, I wasn't a big fan of AE. In fact, it terrified me! But I can understand how that experience appealed to other people. They could have made it a little different.

I completely agree with you. My DH and I got on Stitch this weekend and couldn't believe how little they had changed from AE. I'm sure kids will love it though. As adults, there are lots of "kids" rides we still love (Peter Pan, Small World, etc.) but I don't see us ever going on Stitch again!

I might try it. I liked AE, but I wasn't all that impressed by it. I didn't think it was scary. Thanks for the report.

thats what i was afraid of "the same old tart wearing a new dress"::yes::

DH and I were talking about this.... If it is the same ride - no new preshow, same seats, same environment, same everything except a new story with a new character - why did it take them soooooooo long to revamp the ride. You'd think they would work out the kinks and the show at some other location while leaving AE open for guests to enjoy.

Am I missing something?

Did you just happen to be chosen to experience it or is it now open for everyone?

OK, I'm actually really excited to finally get a chance to experience this ride. I have to admit that I'm a 32yo wimp and couldn't get up the nerve to try AE. I can't sit through a preview for a scarey movie, let alone actually see one. DH has even learned that suspenseful movies should be avoided, since I hide my eyes and begin to talk to him to avoid the scariness of the movie... :) So for me, Stitch is exactly what I needed - a tamer version of a "scarey ride".

We weren't selected, it was just open.....

This is disheartening to hear. Disney had a chance to make a fantastic ride, and they cheaped out. People are saying they won't ride Stitch again. I'm saying I may not go to Disney again.

Woo hoo! That'll make the line shorter for me. I'll wait to ride it before I judge it. It still hasn't offically opened. There may be some more tweaks before it opens. It also may evolve after a few months.

Meh, if one ride puts you off Disneyworld, you probably weren't gonna last mush longer anyway.

Ifontaine,
I have been thinking the exact same thing. When everyone was speculating what the ride was going to be like, I kept thinking that surely they were wrong, and the ride would be changed more than the speculations, or it wouldn't have been taking so long. I'm not going to prejudge the ride, but I do wonder what caused all the downtime, if they didn't change it that much.

The new Stitch animatronic figure is supposed to be the most detailed figure they have ever created. That must have taken time to plan, develop, build, test, and revise.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned the horrible ending yet.

Whoa! You mean you may not go to Disney again because of the the Stitch ride?! You could just skip this ride and do other rides.

Has anyone else read Len Testa's review of Stitch over on allears (Deb Wills site)? I don't think he loved it a whole lot!!!! I thought AE was really pretty lame, not scary. So, we'll see what happens in Nov when we give it a shot.

One of his issues with the Stitch attraction is that it has no real story. It doesn't tell you who Stitch is, etc. I guess they're betting that folks on the ride already know and like Stitch before they ride.

I will probably like it because I liked AE a lot, and I am a big Stitch fan. I feel like I have kind of a personal relationship with the little guy since I worked on a game with him in it. I even have Stitch stuff sitting on my shelf above my desk here at work (the talking Stitch, bobble head with sunglasses, and a maquette from the game).

I'll post a review when we get back. If I like it, it probably doesn't mean much because I'm so biased. If I don't like it even as a Stitch fan... then peeeeuuwww! ;)

Exactly. Anyone that has seen the Stitch movie knows that what we experience is somewhat similar to what takes place at the beginning of the Stitch movie.

I imagine the time it took to make the ride was for Stitch and for the additions of the laser cannons.

I think the ending sounds fine based on the reviews I've read.

Hopefully my 3 year old will be able to go on it next April. She is a huge Stitch fan. If 40" is the height requirement, she's in there.
