Stitch's Great Escape...A Mom and Me Birthday Celebration! *7/26 Link to new PTR*

Please let me know when you start the trip report

Jay, I just started today and I'm too stupid to figure out how to add the link. But it is
Rain, Surprise Birthdays, Rain, First Visits and did I mention Rain? Sorry to make you search. Maybe you can figure it out for me.
Ginny

We did end up having a few awesome character/CM interactions. I think the low crowds made it all possible. Without tons of guests lined up to visit they can take the extra time to make the interactions extra special.

The low crowds do help. It was very busy when we were there but we did manage to get quite a few good interactions. The ones that were most important to us anyway. You know the head cheese. He is mine and my DD2's fav. Pluto being my other DD1 and DGSA4.

Hi Jay,

DH and I will be at AKV Dec 2nd - 10th and then we will be on a Disney cruise for a few days after that. Hope to see you there!

We are definately hoping to do both a fireworks cruise and that special GF dinner. Also, we are ordering a Disney Christmas tree for our room. DH surprised me with one at DL last year and it was so wonderful!

Stitch looks so precious falling asleep on the TTA. Isn't it amazing how little it takes to refresh kids at that age?

Can't wait to read more! popcorn::

HA HA HA, he is a little man after my own heart. I think dh gets sick of me asking to go back to WDW as well. ;) I will have another update very shortly. :)

I just wanted to let you know he remembers you from a previous TR! Yesterday we were looking at more pictures and he says "I want to see the baby pictures!" and I was all huh? And he says (in that tone that kids use like you're stupid ) "You know! The one with the mommy and daddy and the kids and baby! With the boat!" It totally threw me over. I remember him loving those pictures but I didn't think he would remember much. He does that all the time! I can say something and 2 - 3 months later it just pops out of his mouth. (All good things! Nothing naughty of course.)

Really loving your TR! Your Stitch is just too adorable!!!

Following our fun meet and greet we hopped on to the CoP. Once again we sang along (quietly...we didn't want to disturb the others riding with us). I love the song from the CoP. It always sticks in my head and I never mind. "There's a great big beautiful tomorrow....."
CoP is my DS(8) favorite attraction at WDW (followed by One Man's Dream at DHS). I just ordered a 5 CD set from amazon with soundtracks from the 1964 World's Fair. There are 2 CD's on CoP. I haven't given it to him yet but I did listen to it just to make sure it was OK. I know he's going to flip when I give it to him.

I just ordered this on 6/10 and paid $33.49 and now it is 44.99.

Day 7...Disney Hollywood Studios!

Another rope drop was in store for us this morning. We shared a giant sized cinnamon roll for breakfast, gussied up and then headed for El Centro (another morning of us taking a taxi to get there as soon as possible). Once we got to the lot, we took a tram to the front gates. Although we were up and moving, we were still a little bit tired (look at his face).
wdwmarch09269.jpg

It was fun to watch the opening show at DHS. I had never seen it before.
wdwmarch09270.jpg

wdwmarch09271.jpg

A quick photo pass picture to start our morning off right. And for the record, NO, I am not wearing the same shirt twice, I actually bought three (yes THREE) of the same shirt. The first two I did on purpose. I thought I would bring it back as a gift for a friend and keep one for myself. The third one, I picked up for myself...thinking it was a different shirt, but I kept it and wore it anyway.
Image149.jpg

First up for us? Toy Story Mania!! Well, that was the plan at least. Instead of getting in line right away, I got in line for a fast pass. I waited about three minutes for those YES we walked quickly straight there, nope it was not an EMH morning. The only thing we stopped for was for a quick photo pass picture. I guess we chose wrong. By the time we got over there, the lines were huge. Both for fast passes and for the ride itself. By the time I was the proud holder of two fast passes, the posted wait time was already 50 minutes. I asked if that was accurate (I know they are usually arbitrary first thing in the morning before they have a chance to time the actual wait). The CM at the front of the door said it was actually more like a 40 minute wait! WHAT?! I think everyone at rope drop must have gone there. No way were we going to waste the start of our day standing in a forty minute line, instead we put our fast passes in our pocket and headed over to Stitch's favorite ride, RnRc!

We were lucky, it was still a walk on and that is just what we did (twice in a row). Our first time through the line the CM heard me trying to wimp out and snickered at me as we walked past (not in a mean way...more in a ha ha ha, it's the kid that is dragging the parent this time). :lmao: When the same CM saw us come through the second time he questioned me on how I had survived. :rotfl: Then, he told us we should pick up a fast pass because the line was only going to grow throughout the day. I explained that we had already gotten them for Toy Story Mania and our window was not open yet for our next set. He was awesome and slipped two fast passes from his pocket into Stitch's eager little paws. I guess I was going to have to go for a third ride. After thanking him we headed back in and took another limo ride with a crazy driver behind the wheel!
Image156.jpg

Image157.jpg

After this, we took a ride on a very scary elevator. How did I survive that one?! Thankfully, he only made me ride that once. :rotfl: ToT terrifies me. The whole dropping thing is NOT my favorite thing. Once again, proof positive of my love for Stitch. ;) Afterward, more photo pass pictures as we walked out of the area.
Image158.jpg

Our best impression of our elevator screams.
Image154.jpg

And just down the street, a few more snapshots. ;)
Image146.jpg

Next up? Star Tours! Stitch is a big fan of the ride and I was happy to journey into space with him.
wdwmarch09291.jpg

wdwmarch09290.jpg

The 'big' rides out of the way, we headed over to the Muppet's 3-D attraction. Stitch (along with his brothers) is a huge Muppet/Fraggles fan. Basically, if Jim Henson made it, they love it. So, he was tickled to be able to enjoy this attraction again.
wdwmarch09273.jpg

wdwmarch09289.jpg

To be continued...

Day 7, PART 2!

By the time we had ridden all of those rides and done a little bit of shopping after most of them, it was time to use our Toy Story Mania fast passes. Along the way, we ran into an army man. This was another GREAT character interaction. In fact, it was our favorite of the entire trip! As we walked past (we were going to skip this character meet and greet since we were eager to ride some more rides) he saluted us and then motioned us over.
wdwmarch09274.jpg

He immediately started to motion to Stitch to show him what was in his shopping bag. Stitch happily pulled out his new Kermit the Frog bobble head to show it off. What came next just cracked me up...once Stitch had the bobble head safely back in the bag, the army man motioned for the bag again. Stitch handed it to him and...
wdwmarch09275.jpg

The army man took it and 'marched away' with it.
wdwmarch09276.jpg

He walked all the way over to a bush and hid the bag under it.
wdwmarch09277.jpg

He then came back and pretended like he had no idea what Stitch was talking about when he mentioned his bag.:lmao: Every time Stitch would point or ask about the bag, the army man would tap the little pouch on his belt and then tap his chest as if to say "NO, it's mine!"...it was SOOOO funny. Finally, Stitch looked at the army man and said "You are so crazy, but I like it!", I just about fell over laughing at that. I took this picture shortly after that comment.
wdwmarch09278.jpg

After the picture, Stitch and the army man saluted each other one last time and then he had Stitch salute me (and so did he). Respects paid to each other and myself, they said goodbye. Upon goodbye, Stitch made a beeline for the bush and rescued his Kermit bobble head. HA HA HA.
wdwmarch09279.jpg

Right before this picture, Stitch gave a holler over to the army man "HEY ARMY GUY, I got my bag back!"...so of course, I had to stop and take yet another picture.
wdwmarch09280.jpg

As we then walked past the army man, he made motions as if to grab at the bag (from about 10 feet away) as Stitch held it up over his head in triumph (and to taunt I am sure). :lmao: We had a great time playing with Andy's toy solider! :thumbsup2

Our next stop was Andy's room. I love the details here. Look at even the warning sign...it does look like a little boy might have tacked it up!
wdwmarch09282.jpg

wdwmarch09283.jpg

wdwmarch09281.jpg

Toy Story Mania is a blast. I really enjoy this ride. The fun of competing, mixed with 3-D effects, some of my favorite characters ever and the cool atmosphere make this one of my favorites...but despite being one of my favorites, it was not worth waiting in line for. The posted wait (and it was just shy of noon by the time we rode it with our fast passes)? NINETY MINUTES!!! Oh goodness, no! I felt so sorry for the people getting in line to ride it. I won't wait for any ride that long. :sad2: I looked into grabbing another fast pass but they were ALL GONE for the entire rest of the day! I couldn't believe it. :scared1: WOW, I guess everyone loves Toy Story Mania!

We were both a bit hungry so we took a stroll looking for a CS place to eat. Along the way, we took some pictures.
wdwmarch09286.jpg

wdwmarch09285.jpg

wdwmarch09287.jpg

wdwmarch09288.jpg

We ended up at the ABC Commissary and had the worst meal of our trip there. The setting was beautiful but the food was really lacking. Neither of us even finished half of what we ordered.
wdwmarch09292.jpg

I had the hamburger with fries and a strawberry parfait. My burger was cool and the fries were greasy and limp. The parfait had 'slimy' strawberries. Stitch had the french fries (more limp ick) and carrot sticks (yummy) that came with the kid's chicken nugget meal actually still frozen on the inside! I returned his first set of nuggets (I refuse to make my child even attempt to eat frozen meat...ICK) and the second set was cooked through but still not very tasty. Like I said, neither of us ate much at all. We are 0 for 2 on the counter service lunches at DHS. A few years prior, we had all eaten at the Pizza Planet and none of us had been very fond of our meal there either. What is up with counter service offerings at DHS? Is there something good to be found there as far as counter service food? I am open to suggestions (and would appreciate them for our future trips). DESPITE the food, we had fun. ;)
wdwmarch09294.jpg

wdwmarch09293.jpg

And, although the food was sub par, the service was pretty good. A bus boy came over with a cookie for Stitch since he had noticed his birthday button.

**Side note about the wearing of the birthday button. Originally, he was given one at check in and we started to put it away instead of put it on him and the check-in CM told us he should put it on. I explained that his birthday was not yet for a few days and he said "He's here to celebrate, let him wear it all stay long." We thanked him and I handed it to Stitch who started to put it on. At that point, the front desk manager noticed Stitch's button and said happy birthday, we explained once again that his birthday was not today and he told us that it was his birthday trip, so we should celebrate it to it's fullest each day.

With those encouragements, I decided that it would be fun to let him have a week long birthday celebration. I know some people have strong opinions about this "he should only wear it on his actual birthday or he is detracting from others who are really having a birthday" is usually the stated reasoning. However, since Disney doesn't seem to have an objection to it and in fact encouraged it several times during the week I have no reservations about letting my kids enjoy a birthday trip instead of birthday day. You only live once and I think that at Disney there is always more than enough magic to go around. **

A little nourishment (or something that at least may have passed as such) we headed out and to our next attraction. A fun one, The Great Movie Ride!
wdwmarch09295.jpg

wdwmarch09296.jpg

Dh and I are considering this as the location for our vow renewal reception or for 'just' an anniversary party (so many less restrictions to host just a party than to host a wedding/vow renewal at WDW). I had fun dreaming of what could be done there as far as food and drinks and desserts as I rode along next to my sweet Stitch.

Day 7, PART 3

Once my day dreaming was over, we headed over to see our only show of the day. Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular. Even though we have seen it multiple times, it is still makes me laugh and go "OHHHH".
wdwmarch09297.jpg

wdwmarch09298.jpg

Whenever I find where my video clips are hiding I will post one of part of the show.

After the show, it was time to do a bit of Indy themed shopping. Well, it ended up being more than a little bit. We were shopping for a family of Indiana Jones lovers back home.

wdwmarch09302.jpg

wdwmarch09299.jpg

Next up? We were off to our final ride, we wanted to use the bonus fast passes for one last crazy fast limo ride. Before we went in, I slipped our tickets in for one last set of fast passes (to hand out to someone else on our way out of the park). I loved watching Stitch find joy in handing them out to others. It was one of my favorite parts of each of our days (the gifting of the unused fast passes). Before we found someone to share with, we stopped for a cold snack on a warm afternoon.
wdwmarch09304.jpg

wdwmarch09303.jpg

Cold treats finished, we handed our fast passes off to another mom/son duo and made our way over to the bus stop. Along the way we took a final set of photo pass pictures. Stitch found Stitch. ;)
Image165.jpg

A few seconds after we arrived (we got really lucky as we were both tired of standing by then) a bus pulled up that was headed to the CSR. We climbed on and while we waited for other guests to board, we passed the time snapping pictures of ourselves and visiting with the really friendly bus driver.
wdwmarch09306.jpg

wdwmarch09308.jpg

The driver was so nice that he invited Stitch up to teach him about driving the bus! What a cool mini lesson. We had tons of questions for him and he answered each one patiently. Here's Stitch 'driving' our bus. ;)
wdwmarch09309.jpg

wdwmarch09310.jpg

After about ten minutes (I think), our driver said we would be his only passengers and closed up the doors, took back the driver's seat and drove us back to the CSR. The entire time he was telling us stories about working at WDW and how he had retired from his 'real job' and that this was his fun job. What a great CM! I am so happy we had an entire wait/ride to spend some time with him! He was a great example of the wonderful people that Disney draws in to work for them!

Upon getting back to our room we found a surprise waiting for us. Stitch was all smiles when he saw this.
wdwmarch09311.jpg

Our mouse keeper (and the entire mouse keeping staff from the manager of the entire department on down) was FABULOUS all week long! We really felt like very welcome and special guests all week long. They called to check if things were okay (the mouse keeping manager), they turned down our room each and every night, they left us towel animals and stickers and pictures and most importantly, the room was CLEAN! :)

Here you see him in the...bathroom!?!
wdwmarch09315.jpg

He wanted me to take pictures of the way we found our toilet area daily. He thought it was great and laughed each time he walked in. I laughed at how he would hurry to the toilet area each day to see how the toilet paper and towels/wash clothes were folded and what sticker would be there. Ahhh...to be a little boy. ;)
wdwmarch09313.jpg

wdwmarch09314.jpg

Our favorite towel creation was once again 'swinging' in the window.
wdwmarch09316.jpg

The view from outside our room.

Day 7, PART 4!

This afternoon instead of taking a nap we went straight to the pool area. As we walked there, we took a few pictures.
wdwmarch09319.jpg

wdwmarch09320.jpg

A four legged friend.
wdwmarch09321.jpg

A little something that Stitch spotted.
wdwmarch09322.jpg

Looking back toward where our room was.
wdwmarch09323.jpg

And finally...into the pool!
wdwmarch09324.jpg

wdwmarch09325.jpg

More pyramid pictures.

wdwmarch09327.jpg

"Mom, enough with the ruins pictures!"
wdwmarch09328.jpg

"I want back in the water!"
wdwmarch09329.jpg

wdwmarch09332.jpg

Another attempt at taking our own picture.
wdwmarch09307.jpg

wdwmarch09333.jpg

Sliding fun.
wdwmarch09334.jpg

Underwater smiles.
wdwmarch09335.jpg

wdwmarch09339.jpg

Smells like Stitch Spirit. :lmao: Being a Nirvana fan (I loved that album when I was in high school/college), I just love this picture. It makes me laugh...all it needs is some money in front of him. ;)
wdwmarch09337.jpg

One last waterlogged smile.
wdwmarch09340.jpg

After our photo session/swim I kicked my feet up and read my Kindle while Stitch once again enjoyed the awesome playground. We also shared a snack of nachos and a virgin daiquiri. Both of them really hit the spot (we were both fairly hungry due to our mostly uneaten lunch). After drying off, we even stopped by the arcade for a bit of gaming before taking another picture snapping walk back to our room. The CSR is just too beautiful to walk very far without wanting to snap some pictures. This first two are looking toward the Casitas section.

Day 7, PART 5!

More pictures as we walked.

Stitch thought this rock looked like a turtle and refereed to it as "turtle rock" all week long.

wdwmarch09360.jpg

One last shot before going back into our room (from right in front of our door).
wdwmarch09364.jpg

After our afternoon of pictures, swimming, sliding (both in the water and out of it), swinging, game playing, snacking and more pictures we were both tired. We curled up and took a late afternoon/early evening nap. After our nap, we headed over to the Pepper Market (yet again) and had another great meal. Following dinner, we stopped by the Cafe Rix and picked up two peanut butter and jelly meals so that we could have them for breakfast in the morning and then made our way back to our room where I packed up the room while he watched some Disney Channel shows.

YES, sadly I did say, packed up our room. This was to be our final night at Walt Disney World. I was having so much fun with him that I wished we could stay even longer but I was also really missing dh and my other boys. It's hard to be away from those you love (no matter how much fun you are having) for an entire week. So that night I fell asleep looking forward to seeing my wonderful husband and sweet boys (the other three of them) the very next night. However, we still had another full day left (our flight didn't leave until 7:00 PM) and we were planning on enjoying it!

TO BE CONTINUED...

Stitch's shirt is TOO cute! Where did he get it? I love the Little Green Men :goodvibes

i usually disappear from DHS around lunch time because of the counter service places. ABC Commisary is the worst on property i think....the service is always slow and the food just okay and usually cold and missing something like cheese on the burger or greasy fish & chips. this last trip we stopped at the backlot express and it was the 1st time i had eaten there.....i will definitely eat here if at DHS around lunch again....best burger i have had on property...service quick and clean.

I've only eaten in the Commissary @ DHS once and it was for breakfast, it wasn't any good either. :sad2:

It's amazing how popular TSMM is isn't it? I actually think it's gotten busier than it was right after it opened. DS8 and I rode it last summer on our quick little trip and we had no problem grabbing a FP and then riding stand by right at opening with very little wait. We did that on two different days that trip, and that was during the busy summer month of July!

Another great update, Miss Jay!

As a self proclaimed Deluxe/club lovel snob, how did you do at a MOD? I'm tyring to decide where DH and I will stay next October, and while I love nice hotels (DH does, too) I just feel like a deluxe might be out of our reach - any thoughts?

Sorry about the highjack!

Mrs. Spratt

Our first time through the line the CM heard me trying to wimp out and snickered at me as we walked past (not in a mean way...more in a ha ha ha, it's the kid that is dragging the parent this time). :lmao:
How nice of him to give you extra FP's :thumbsup2

He walked all the way over to a bush and hid the bag under it.
How funny, you really do have the best interaction :thumbsup2

What is up with counter service offerings at DHS? Is there something good to be found there as far as counter service food? I am open to suggestions (and would appreciate them for our future trips).
Have you tried Starring Rolls? We ate there last trip and thought it was nice, they do enormous sandwiches and danishes and it's on the DDP

At that point, the front desk manager was over talking to us about our VIP cleaning when he noted Stitch's button and said happy birthday, we explained once again that his birthday was not today and he told us that it was his birthday trip, so we should celebrate it to it's fullest each day. **
I'm glad he was able to celebrate all trip!!!

After about ten minutes (I think), our driver said we would be his only passengers and closed up the doors, took back the driver's seat and drove us back to the CSR. Cool your own personal taxi service :thumbsup2 Also love all your towel animals and the swimming photos :goodvibes

This was an excellent update! You had such great CMs on this day. I wish you could have said the same about your meal at DHS.

Really loving your TR! Your Stitch is just too adorable!!!

Awesome that you got your order in before the price went up! When will you be giving it to him?

CoP is a great ride. Simple yet so engaging. I love the songs. Love the details. Love the dog. ;)

Can't wait to read more! popcorn::
I just might be there then too! I want so badly to try and go to the DISapalooza event thing and Aladdin does have his special trip coming up then. I will PM you when I know for sure. Will you be attending the party or any of the events? Fun...a cruise too! I love those vacations best (the WDW/DCL combo ones).

Jay, I just started today and I'm too stupid to figure out how to add the link. But it is
Rain, Surprise Birthdays, Rain, First Visits and did I mention Rain? Sorry to make you search. Maybe you can figure it out for me.
Ginny
I will have to look that up! I am looking forward to reading about your fun times!

Stitch's shirt is TOO cute! Where did he get it? I love the Little Green Men :goodvibes
I think we found that shirt at EPCOT. It said "Ring Me" on the back and was actually a Toy Story Mania shirt so I bet they have them at DHS too. And thanks...he really loves it.

i usually disappear from DHS around lunch time because of the counter service places.
Okay Backlot Express it is. I will have to commit that one to memory in case we get hungry there again! Thanks for the input.

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience there as welll. And I want you to know I still chuckle when I think of your ToT picture. I am sure I looked a hundred times more scared than you did though! ;) Seriously! Me and heights/drops are not friends.

IF ANYONE IS LOOKING FOR A GOOD TRIP REPORT...go and read Candice's! It's very entertaining! :thumbsup2 And jam packed full of fun and surprises! It was a 'Mom and Me' trip as well (with Candice starring as the grown daughter). A fun read!

I've only eaten in the Commissary @ DHS once and it was for breakfast, it wasn't any good either. :sad2:

It's amazing how popular TSMM is isn't it? I actually think it's gotten busier than it was right after it opened. We did that on two different days that trip, and that was during the busy summer month of July!
Last September we were able to get a fast pass for near dinner time at about 10:30 AM. This past trip, I don't think any fast passes would have been left for anywhere near that time. I guess word is spreading...and it is a great ride.

I loved the CSR. It didn't 'feel' like a moderate to me with two exceptions...it was very spaced out (but I enjoyed the strolls, it was so beautiful that if not for my feet complaining, that wouldn't have been a drawback at all. Second, I really missed having a balcony. I enjoy sitting out there and taking it all in. And a special exception...I am spoiled and missed having a club lounge to find snacks in and hang out in. BUT that was it.

We had queen size beds (other mods have doubles), they have full room service, they have a salon and fitness club, they have multiple pools, the bes themed playground I have ever seen at WDW, they have a beach volleyball area, multiple places to get CS food (including the Pepper Market where you have a server who brings you drinks and can eat steak, shrimp pesto pizza, fajitas, fresh soups/salads etc...it really is a step above other CS places I have been too), they have a table service place (I heard not so good things about the Maya Grill though and didn't try it out myself).

I am a deluxe loving girl through and through but I had a wonderful time at the CSR. I missed things like the monorail, animals outside my window, the GF's lobby, castle views and boat rides to parks. HOWEVER, I don't get all of those things at any one deluxe either. I know that I will definatly visit the CSR again! It was a very beautiful place and I very much enjoyed being there. HTH

How nice of him to give you extra FP's :thumbsup2

How funny, you really do have the best interaction :thumbsup2

Have you tried Starring Rolls? We ate there last trip and thought it was nice, they do enormous sandwiches and danishes and it's on the DDP

I'm glad he was able to celebrate all trip!!!

Cool your own personal taxi service :thumbsup2 Also love all your towel animals and the swimming photos :goodvibes
Thanks for all of the comments, Jo. I am putting Starring rolls on my list as well. What is that close to? I love a good danish!

This was an excellent update! You had such great CMs on this day. I wish you could have said the same about your meal at DHS.
We were so fortunate with CMs all trip long. I know I always say this, but Disney is very good at finding the very best people to help make vacations magical. :)

Hi Jay! Do try Maya Grill next time - it has been one of our favorite "not busy" sit downs!

IF they still do the breakfast buffet, that's good too.

I'll bet the baby is getting big now, isn't he? {wistfully}

I cannot recall the other CS you tried at DHS (you mentioned you were 0 for 2 at DHS), but we REALLY enjoyed Studio Catering Company. It's located by the Honey I Shrunk the Kids play area. We got the baked chicken, beans and rice meal. The chicken was very moist and really good. I would eat there again in a heartbeat.

Did you notice the close-up underwater pic of Stitch also has "the teeth"? So cute. I laughed out loud at the Nirvana pic-great shot! :thumbsup2

I'm so happy to read your good reviews of CSR. I'm looking forward to our stay in September!

And thank you for the tidbits on arriving at Rope Drop. RD is at 9:00 am our entire stay, so it's not terribly early. I think we are going to give it a try this time for a couple mornings-which will mean quick breakfasts, but leisurly afternoons. :goodvibes

I'm back from the big family reunion. Such fun. Over 70 family members in one resort for 3 days.

I just caught up on the last update. It was great as usual. Green army man too funny. My youngest grandson had a blast with Stitch a couple of times. It was great for him for his first visit.

Managed to get a short update in today on my TR. Hope you get a chance to read.

Ginny
