Stitch's Great Escape...A Mom and Me Birthday Celebration! *7/26 Link to new PTR*

Great update! I am shocked that TSM is still so busy - I guess I thought the "novelty" would have worn off a little by now. Love the interaction with the Army Man, all the rides on the RnRC (love that ride!) and the special mom and son bonding. No, it can't be the last night already!! :sad2:

Day 8...One Final Day of Fun

This day started the same as most others with the exception of a knock at the door. The night before, I had called down to bell services and set up a pick up time of 8:00 AM. I was hoping they would be on time...and they were! What great service we had! On-site airline check in was not yet open for the day, so we were going to return later and utilize that before our town car came. Our bell services CM helped us store our luggage and even most of our carry ons (I kept some of the most expensive/important items with me in a small backpack) and then he even gave us a ride over to the front bell stand and hailed us a cab! Just another example of how a CM went the extra mile and made good service, great!

On this day we were headed back to do a little more exploring at DAK. Both of us adore that park and I wanted to do a bit more mountain climbing before we left.

Here is our first picture of the day, yet another stop to get our money's worth out of our prepaid photopass CD.
Image167.jpg

Our picture taken, we were off to watch the park DAK's park opening. It's a great one! Here are some pictures I snapped.

As soon as the park was officially opened, Stitch and I made our way to my favorite ride, Expedition Everest. It was time to have some fun, yeti style! Along the way to the ride, we made a quick pit stop (otherwise known as a restroom break). Right outside of the bathrooms, I saw one of the countless small touches that Disney adds in just about everywhere. The attention to detail is one of the many reasons that I adore Disney! And, although I might need a little bit of 'help', I thought this brick was cool enough to snap a picture of. ;)
wdwmarch09373.jpg

For the first hour and half of our park day, we dedicated ourselves to the enjoyment of Expedition Everest. I lost count of just how many times we rode, but the yeti lover in me was loving every minute of it! As we went through the line again and again we luckily never had more than a 5 minute wait. During a few of our trips through EE's queue, I went a bit snap happy. I hope you enjoy my stroll down 'yeti lane' just as much as I did. Ha ha ha.

Day 8...One Final Day of Fun (Part 2)

After some quality time with the yeti, it was off to Dinoland for us. We went straight to Primeval Whirl and took a ride back in time and then back to the future again. The spinning and dropping and cornering is so much fun. In fact, we had so much fun that we did it twice. After our second time, we were distracted from our morning of rides by a pair of canine friends.

After the obligatory smile for the camera, some fun ensued. Starting with some high fives.

Not even two dancing dogs could hold us still for long, we had one more ride one our 'must do' list for the morning.

wdwmarch09403.jpg

Our 'big three' were done and we were hungry. Instead of eating lunch at the park, we thought it would be better to grab a quick snack and then head back to the resort for a final afternoon of relaxing fun at the CSR. We ended up getting Mickey bars. While eating the bars, we enjoyed the dino art we were surrounded by.

Even the bench we were sitting on was a work of art.

As we made our way out of the park, we were motioned over by a CM who told us that their were characters down the path and no wait to meet them. So, we took a detour right on down.

On our way to the CSR bus stop we were once again reminded to celebrate.
wdwmarch09421.jpg

Seriously, those signs were everywhere. Disney really did feel a bit more festive...maybe it was because it was the year of celebrations? Or maybe it was because I was there to celebrate so our entire trip felt a bit more festive? Ha ha ha.

Another bit of Disney detail...look at the bus stop signs. I loved the animal print details.

Totally awesome. EE was absolutely my favorite ride of all the parks. Unbelievable for me due to my fear of heights. Wish I was there right now for sure. What fun you had.

PW was broken the whole day we were there. What a disappointment for Alex.

Dinosaur was topnotch. First time for me and had to ride many times. Second best ride at AK.

What a way to end a trip.

You should be getting ready to go back. Time is flying by.

Awwww you guys looked like you had such a fun time together Jay. How exciting for the both of you!!! I can't believe this trip report is coming to an end. At least I am excited that Goofy's birthday bash is just around the corner!!! Time to CELEBRATE once again!!!!!

Day 8...One Final Day of Fun (Part 3)

Once we got back to the CSR, I quickly checked us in to our flight using on-site check in (very easy to use) and then we headed straight for the Dig Site and Siesta's Pool Bar. I got a heaping serving of beef nachos and a side of fries (nothing like two appetizers to fill you up;) ). I washed it down with a tasty strawberry daiquiri Stitch dined on a hot dog and fries basket. He washed his down with a virgin pina colada. We had a very relaxing meal.

Once we were fed, we were up for some fun. We grabbed the volleyball located behind the volleyball court sign and played a game of sand volleyball. It was fun but maybe not the best idea. We were both hot by the time we called it a tie and it would have been a good time to go for a swim. However, our suits were packed and headed to the airport so we made do with another round of frosty drinks. While I sat and sipped, I once again pulled out my Kindle and started to get into a good book while Stitch made himself at home on the playground. After a bit, he started swinging, this is where our relaxing afternoon took a turn for the worse. As he was swinging, sand somehow either blew into his eye or fell off of his hands or some other part of his body and into his eye.

The shriek that followed let me know that something was wrong. I jumped up and raced over thinking I was going to find a welt where a bee had stung him or a large pinch mark where he had gotten caught up in the chain of the swing, instead, I found my little man rubbing his eyes and in a tremendous amount of pain.

I spent about fifteen minutes trying to rinse his eye out/calm him down...it didn't work. Toward the end of that time, we started walking toward El Centro because I was realizing that I was (most likely) going to need to take him to a doctor.

Once we got to El Centro, a very sweet front desk manager noticed I was looking a bit worried and had a crying child at my side. She approached me while I was in line and asked if there was anything she could do to help. She listened to what happened and then guided us out of line and found us a quiet place to sit. She also called EMTs to come out and take a look at his eye. I assured her that level of care was not needed (I was just hoping for the address of the closest walk in clinic, urgent treatment center or hospital) but she insisted (my guess is that covers Disney's figurative butt) and said it we would not be billed (I would have had no problem paying if I thought he needed an ambulance, but I really didn't think calling one out was warranted in this instance). However, no matter why she did it, she did it in a very caring way. She was very helpful and instantly made me feel at ease...and just about then, I wasn't feeling very calm. My son was hurt (even if it wasn't anything serious, he was in a lot of pain), I was all alone without dh to help me take care of him, we had a plane that we needed to catch in about five hours and to top it all off, it was just breaking my heart to see him cry.

Within a few short minutes the wonderful EMTs from the Reedy Creek Fire Department were there. I instantly apologized for dragging them out for 'sand in the eye' but they assured me that this was just what they were there for and it was no problem at all. After taking a look at him, using an eye wash kit and asking us a few questions, they decided that there was nothing more they could do for him on-site. They thought he might have scratched his cornea and suggested taking him to an urgent treatment center not far from there.

The very wonderful CM who had been helping us the entire time now got one of the resort's vans to take us directly there. I once again assured her that Disney didn't do anything to cause him harm (people get sand in their eyes all of the time and nobody is at fault for it happening) and told her that I could be happy to just hail a cab if they gave me the address. She assured me it was 'their pleasure' to do this for us and sent us on our way with her business card (so we could call if we needed a ride or anything else at all) and with the promise to help us get to the airport should we not make it back in time for our scheduled town car pick up.

While I never want any of my kids to be in need of medical attention, I was very pleased with the caring helpfulness offered by the staff at the CSR. They made a bad situation better by just being as helpful as they could and trying to take away the stresses that went along with having an injured little one. I cannot put into words how grateful I still am to the wonderful CMs that helped us out that day. I thought that the staff at the CSR was helpful, kind, attentive, caring and quick when we found ourselves in need of a bit of help. I wrote two separate letters (one commending the special CM by name who was our main helper and another thanking them for the efforts of all of the CMs who stopped to help us that day) to WDW's guest communications upon our return home. I will always be grateful for their kindness when Stitch needed help.

Turns out, Stitch had three scratches on his cornea! Poor thing, no wonder he was in so much pain. We were taken directly back and seen immediately (I think a child with eye trauma and severe pain got us bumped up the triage list). As soon as the doctor put numbing drops in his eye, he felt MUCH better. And although we had a recheck once we got home and ten days worth of antibiotic drops...I was thankful that Stitch's injury was so easily 'fixed'.

As soon as he was patched up (quite literally), we were able to grab a free shuttle back to the CSR. We ended up making it back to the resort with about 25 minutes to spare before our airport pick up. After thanking the wonderful CM who helped us (and reporting back to her about what was going on) Stitch and I grabbed a very quick last meal at the Pepper Market.
wdwmarch09422.jpg

Then it was off to wait for our town car to drive us to the airport.
wdwmarch09423.jpg

We luckily had the same driver ("Jeeves") who picked us up in the limo on our way to the resort. He was SO good with Stitch. He joked around with him and had him laughing in no time. He even took two quarters out of his own pocket and gave them to my little patched pirate "two bits for you cause every pirate needs a treasure". I cannot speak highly enough about Sir Randolph's Limo Service. We will be using them again in the future.

Once we got to MCO we even had a little bit of time to burn so we grabbed drinks at Starbucks and sat talking about all of the fun we had together. That time at the airport is one of my very favorite memories from the trip. The relief of him being okay, the excitement over the fact that I would shortly be seeing my other guys and the happiness I felt while we were talking about all of the special things we had done together mingled into one awesome feeling.

He may have been patched up, but he was still smiling. :)

Finally, just before they called us to board, the day started to catch up to him.
wdwmarch09428.jpg

Goodbye, Orlando...we hope to be back soon!
wdwmarch09432.jpg

As we flew, I was on cloud 9 thinking about getting to hug my other boys and dh. I had really missed just as much as I had loved spending one on one time with my sweet Stitch.

wdwandhomewintero9241.jpg

About a half an hour after this picture, the numbing drops started to wear off and he was in a lot of pain (again). I felt terrible for him. I gave him some of his headache medicine (it was strong pain relief and sure needed it) and cuddled him up to me. We had a terrific gate agent who noticed his discomfort and told us to come up when he started to pre board our final flight. I was very grateful for being able to get him on the plane and settled before everyone else was jostling through the aisles.

A short flight later, we were finally home!
wdwmarch09440.jpg

It was WONDERFUL to walk to the baggage claim area and find dh waiting there for us. I don't know that either of us has ever hugged him quite the tightly before...and certainly, not at the same time. ;) I wonder how he was able to breathe. I solidified what I had already known, I could happily stay for a very long time at WDW as long as my family was with me. Without them, nowhere really feels right.

UP NEXT: Final thoughts.

Day 8...One Final Day of Fun (Part 3)

Jay what a totally wonderful end even with Stitch in pain (which I hate for you and him, I know the feelings you were going through). I can just imagine you arriving at your home airport with you dh there to welcome you both home. What a feeling.

We too loved CSR. All of the CM's we dealt with were so kind and attentive. It makes it tolerable to be away from home and the rest of your "boys".

One can tell how wonderful the trip was for you and Stitch and the love you give and receive from your boy. Your writing style makes me love them too. As I have told you before if they need a grandma I'm really cheap.

I'm sorry to see your report end. It has been a pleasure, as was your other report.

Ginny

How unfortunate that Stitch got injured on the trip, at least it was on the last day and wasn't too serious! :thumbsup2 It is also nice to see the level of care that Disney gave you. :goodvibes

Oh, Stitch hurting his eye sure put a damper on an otherwise amazing trip. Poor little guy, I'm sure that hurt like crazy! I am impressed with how well Disney handled the situation though, whether they were doing it for insurance purposes or not, it was still very kind of them to treat you the way they did.

Looking forward to your final thoughts AND hearing about what you have planned for Goofy's birthday trip!!

Hi Jay! I can't believe your wonderful adventure with Stitch has come to an end! I really enjoyed following along. :goodvibes
I'm so sorry Stitch had the eye injury, not fun at all! :sad2: I'm glad you guys were given the "Disney treatment" and were so nicely cared for.
Thank you so much for all of your EE photos! I couldn't take it all in when we were there so it was fun to really look at your photos and read the signs, etc. The detailing is just so amazing! I love that INDIA brick you found. I have a picture of a pile of them from somewhere in AK.
The meeting in the airport with big hugs sounded wonderful! :)
Looking forward to your final thoughts and a new TR!!! :yay:

Once again, Disney proves that they really do care for their guests. I love reading your trip reports, Jay, cuz you really bring out what Disney is all about. Impecable detail, customer service, and the importance of family. I love being a part of your trip reports and I can't wait to be a part of another one, whenever that may be. I cannot wait to read your final thoughts. :)

Ooh, the poor little guy, that must have really hurt. scratching his cornea. Eye injuries really give me the willies, you handled it so calmly! I would've been a wreck having to go to the ER right before your flight home. So glad to hear everything turned out okay in the end, and you still found reasons to smile! What a great trip report, hope you'll start a PTR for the next one!:goodvibes

Jay -

I'm crying, not only because Stitch is hurt, but because you always take the time to notice kindness in everyone around you...

You are a great inspiration!

Mrs. Spratt

Thanks for all of the comments, Jo. I am putting Starring rolls on my list as well. What is that close to? I love a good danish!
It's kind of next door to the HBD at the top of the road leading to ToT :thumbsup2

I solidified what I had already known, I could happily stay for a very long time at WDW as long as my family was with me. Without them, nowhere really feels right.
So so true, I really loved my December training trip but it made me really realise that Disney is best shared withyour family :cloud9:

Sounds as though you had a fantastic ride packed morning but poor little Stitch needing a hospital visit. The CSR sounded fantastic though :thumbsup2

Okay Backlot Express it is. I will have to commit that one to memory in case we get hungry there again! Thanks for the input.

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience there as welll. And I want you to know I still chuckle when I think of your ToT picture. I am sure I looked a hundred times more scared than you did though! ;) Seriously! Me and heights/drops are not friends.

IF ANYONE IS LOOKING FOR A GOOD TRIP REPORT...go and read Candice's! It's very entertaining! :thumbsup2 And jam packed full of fun and surprises! It was a 'Mom and Me' trip as well (with Candice starring as the grown daughter). A fun read!

awww...thanks for the shout out! i have big shoes to fill...you are the queen of surprises! i am hoping to do a "princess dream" trip for my 10 year old niece who has never been to disney!

btw...what a great last day except for that blasted sand!...bad bad sand! glad he is okay and think of all the memories you now have to treasure of your one on one time with him

What a GREAT last morning - EE, Dogs, Gliding through time, Dinos, MICKEY BARS, and Pooh & Pals! :thumbsup2

The time at CSR sounded really nice too, up until the eye incident! Poor Stitch! And poor Momma! :sad1::hug: I cannot imagine how worried you must have been. But, I am very pleased to read that CSR was right on top of things with it all. Very, very good!

Henry recently poked Joe in the eye just right and he too ended up with a very badly scratched cornea. He didn't have the patch, but he did have the eye drops and now has 3 months of salve he has to put on. Blah! BUT, the important thing is, his eye is healing. :goodvibes I'm VERY glad to read Stitch is doing well.

Looking forward to the final thoughts...are you going to share bits about your next trip???

AK is a great park. You had so much fun! I like the pictures of the queue for EE. We did FP and never saw that side.

Poor Stitch with the eye patch. That had to be very painful. I hope it healed quickly.

Jay - what a wonderful trip for you and Stitch. I have so enjoyed reading it. Sorry to hear about Stitch's eye. I guess thankfully it was at the end of your trip and not the beginning. I hope he is doing well.

I have to say, my eyes got teary with your plane photos and goodbye's to Orlando. :sad1:

Can't wait to hear your final comments.

Tears in my eyes. I hope Stitch is all healed with no ill effects.

Glad you are home, but sad the trippie is over. Hope you go again SOON!
