stitches great escape good or bad?

My daughter is 3 and enjoyed Stitch. I thought it was ok, a little better than WDW's version of the Tiki Birds(which is loud and obnoxious).

Three notes:

First: One of the weaknesses of Stitch was the long stretches of darkness and not being able to see Stitch. This is in the process of being changed with additional images of Stitch being shown while Stitch is being hunted. This will reduce the amount of darkness in the overall show.

Second: My daughter loves TT, Pirates, BTMRR, Matterhorn, Splash, etc. and has been on these rides many times, as she is a DLR AP veteran. She also loves Stitch. Thus this type of ride was right up her alley.

Three: When the harness comes down, put your hands on your kids and your shoulders to keep the harness from lowering too far. This makes a big difference in the comfort level.

I really think the ride will get to the point that kids 3-9 won't be frightened, and may actually enjoy it, while us parents will smile as we watch our kids enjoy it.

OK I knew in the cyber-world Stitch suxed. However both my DS24 and DS16 loved this attraction when they first saw it in April! They don't read the boards. And when they dragged DH and me on it later, I thought it was much better than I'd imagined! I did like AE and the humor in the sound track. It was just hard to hear AE with all the audience screaming. Going out on a limb Stitch is not terrible!

but the ride doesn't SuX it's cool!

No, the attraction does "SuX".
The "story line" is thinner than a cheap piece of copy paper, it's a retread attraction made possible thur the greed of the stragetic planning department taking charge over the creative talents in WDI. It's a prime example of making theme parks 'on the cheap'. Stitch is a great character who's been sold short by short sighted bean-counters at the expense of Stitch and Disney fans world-wide.

OK, just for the record, I didn't KNOW the ride was loud, dark and sometimes scary. The 2005 Unofficial Guide to WDW didn't have full information on it, since it wasn't open at publication date. Until this discussion, I couldn't find anything on the boards that mentioned it was loud, dark and scary, either. All they said was it was lousy (which is subjective to a four year-old, anyway). I learned the hard way, and as my earlier post on this same thread mentioned, I can admit I dropped the ball on this one. My post was to help ensure someone else didn't have to learn the same things the hard way!

BTW, Both the Unofficial Guide to WDW and Fodor's WDW with Kids have good "fright factor" lists (although neither mentions SGE--too new).

Story Line? It's simple! Your reqrueted to the GF..something, You end up guarding stich,Stich is transported, he escapes, causes chaos, transports himself to the MK.

And to Chip-n-Dale, Sorry, I didn't know the situation. But I quess that can count as a warining to unsure parents.

And with the lastest rehab, they filleds up the darkness with new effects: Stich Lugees :rotfl2: , Bouceing, and the cool "Stich taps your head" thing. And the remaining darknees is for SUSPENSE!

That all I say for now, Bye :wave2:

In comparison to any other WDW attraction (with the possible exception of Alladdin/Dumbo) that is a poor, thin, non-existent story. We might as well be 'treated' to an attraction that focuses on Stitch going to a kitchen cabinet, grabbing a bag of popcorn, and watch as it pops in the microwave.

The marketing of this attraction has been the equivalent of barking to step inside the tent to see king kong, and in fact, inside the tent is an aging poodle. What drives everything that is sucessful in Disney is the story behind the product/attraction/show etc.. There was SO much potential for this attraction and WDI came up with some great stuff! But once the accountants over-ruled the creative developmental process, the only way anything could be done was to 'make do'.

I am usually the one to find the positive side of every person/experience, etc. But I must admit, I truly hated this ride. The only good thing that I can say about my 'one time only' Stitch ride encounter is that I never feel like I qualify for the pin unless I've experienced the ride. I got my pin...enough said! :sad2:

What?! This has a good story! I can name attractions with not-as-good stories.

It's a GOOD ride! It's fun, funny, and trilling. It uses the classic Disney story style. It even showed a related sequence in the movie. Okay I gonna ask, how would you make it better, and don't say: "And more effects..make it funner...blah...blah...blah." BE SPECIFIC!!!!!!!!! I would as much as I LOVED the ride, would only dim the lights alot, instead of total darkness. Less loud nioses (particuclary the cannons) and make an effect where he garbs someone's hat and says like: "Ohhhhh, Reverse the Curse, Ha heh!" Being a Red Sox fans, hat would crack me up. So, let's see you people do better, a.k.a: Put up, or shut up.

I don't need to be a great chef to know when something tastes like crap. I do not possess to skills or imagination to design a great ride but that doesn't mean I don't know a ride is crap when I ride it. The Imagineers at Disney do, but it's quite obvious they were either given time or money constrants that did not allow them to give us anything better.

But it's also silly to try and convince someone to not like something they already like, same as you trying to convince me it's a good ride. Kinda falls into the "to each his own" catagory.

You end up guarding stich
By being strapped down to our chairs and sitting around in circles? What are we supposed to do, scream "Hey, 626 is escaping, and thanks for strapping me down so that I cannot either stop him nor protect myself!!" Yeh, that's the way I would recruit people to guard a dangerous criminal.

Please note the following changes have been made in the last week.

Shadows of Stitch running around on the walls
Cannons now shoot the walls where Stitch's shadow is running
Stitch AA comes back during the MIDDLE of the show.

I went on the first time during the AP preview. I was disappointed but thought that maybe they didnt have everything working since it has not been released to the public. I figured it had to get better , so I tried it again after it fully opened. Boy was I wrong. All you do is sit in the dark waiting for something to happen that never does. When it was over the person next to me looked at me and sai "was that it". Not worth your time if there is a line.

.... have you seen both versions of Stitch ? If so, do the new additions make it worth standing in line to see it again ?

I just did it a few weeks ago,but I dont think I saw the new one. Either way there is no action to this attraction.

Many people who visit WDW do no research what so ever and would probably think that it is safe to take a 3/4/5 year old on this ride because "cute stitch" is the main character.

My guess is that a lot of parents probably have screaming children. We read these boards and can be careful but some are not so lucky.

I thought AE was really scarey and spent the whole time worrying about my seven year old daughter. She really hated it. The new ride is not nearly so scarey but the bars holding you down stopping you getting a hug from mom is still there. My daughter is now 11 and liked the Stitch ride but DH will never go on it again.

I feel sure something could be done to make this a much better experience.

So, they are supose to let you wannder around the room when you could trip, young kids hurts themselves, in other ways. What else should they do? They worked, with the best they could do. They had 3 major rides on the line ex: Soarin' (loved it!), LMA, and Everest! You had the same story line with AE, why did they strap you down? I still LOVED the ride and I hope it Stays!

Have to wait until Jan. for my next trip. I get to DLR every couple weeks, but must survive on only one trip per year to WDW.

I went on it in April. On the 1-10 scale my wife would have given it a 3, me a 5, my daughter a 7. For comparison sake, I would have given WDW Tiki room a 3, DLR Tiki Room a 6.

I thought that there were some dead spots in the show. The additional shadows of Stitch being chased and shot at will solve much of this, at the same time adding some additonal light to the show which will help with younger children.

I never wait longer than 25 minutes for any ride, using FP, riding things early morning, etc. I'll definetly try it again next Jan. though. I really liked the preshow, and some of the regular show as well. Nice to see them continue to work on it.

They worked, with the best they could do.

Then, from most accounts, their best is not good enough.

You had the same story line with AE, why did they strap you down?

The guests were not "guarding" the Alien in AE.

Screamscape.com just reported on the new changes:

"(5/6/05) D-Troops is reporting that a new third version of Stitch’s Great Escape is now running at the park and that they’ve raised the height limit once again from 38 to 40 inches now to keep the smaller kids out due to them being too frightened in the dark. However, the official Disney website still lists Stitch’s height limit at 38 inches. "

This is now the 3rd "version" of Stitch in less than a year, maybe in a few more years it will be a good attraction? :confused3
