It's open seasonally, so during busier times like Christmas, New Years, Easter etc. they keep it open and close it when the parks aren't that busy

I've been trying to think of what kind of ride they could put there that's not the same circle theatre experience but could fit into the space. What if they just didn't do a ride though? What if they did a walk through attraction? Kind of like launch bay, where it's a free to walk around area. Maybe it's a part of the Collectors collection from GotG on loan to Tomorrowland and it has a few animatronics behind class and just weird and cool collectables(no need to break out of it though lol) Or maybe it's Wall-E based and a museum sponsored by BnL.... not sure exactly what they would include in it. But you get the idea. Of course maybe the area would be too big for something like that.

I like the idea of Wreck It Ralph but worry it won't live up to its full potential if they try to fit it into that space.

I do really look forward to seeing speedway go... oh the possibilities they could fit in there!!! (Without touching Carousel of course)

I've said it before, the Stitch debacle needs to become a TRON based attraction (or Guardians if they want to stay more current) and the Speedway needs to be annexed into Fantasyland and get a MASSIVE makeover into a SUGAR RUSH based driving ride.

I'm not recalling many instances where Disney "brought back" an attraction, so the AE rumor doesn't seem right to me. Besides, there were plenty of haters of that version of the attraction too (even though I liked it much better than Stitch.) How about a Guardians Of The Galaxy attraction? That seems like a fit for tomorrowland and Disney seems to like that franchise.

If Disney were to ever bring back an attraction I'd hope it would be Horizons 2.0 or Imagination 1.0.

I don't really remember the predecessor to alien encounter, but I know I saw it on my first visit to the magic Kingdom in the 80's. It was mission to mars. Did it use the round theater setup? I know there is mission space in epcot, which is a bit more of a thrill. I would think you could reuse the round theater as some sort of space vehicle, fitting the theme of tomorrowland. Ultimately the failure of this attraction is the full lights out assault on the senses, which isn't something a lot of the younger visitors enjoy, nor want to repeat.
I would think they could come up with something that doesn't necessarily have to match a current or existing IP, that could use that space, without a full lights out effect to scare the kids. The park really needs to eat up capacity, and that is one of the spots they can do it at. It need not be a thematic masterpiece. Even if it's only some imax movie, with a little extra sensory stuff thrown in. More on the idea of a bugs life.
Anything fresh on COP, will help people get motivated to give that another try as well. Tomorrowland speedway is also do for an overhaul/replacement, that space is just too valuable.

Oh good grief. Alien was as bad or worse than Stitch. Both attractions were horribly done. They need to gut the entire thing and start over with something fresh. A new "theme" to the same old space is not the answer. Keeping the same premise but just with a new theme would mean we'd go in during a storm to keep dry for a few minutes but it would never make our "must do" list.

We don't do the Speedway very often either but I would be sad to see it go 'cuz it's a classic. (I wish they would upgrade the cars or something. I hate those things.)

Someone else mentioned something early in the thread about Laugh Floor - we love that 'cuz the participants can make it really funny sometimes. We usually do it a couple of times every trip. Yeah the gist of the jokes are the same but the crowd isn't.

I remember going on Mission to Mars as a 5 year old and pleading with my Mom to make them take us back to Earth. It was the same theater setup as Stitch basically, with circular screens on the ceiling and on the floor where Stitch appears. The seats didn't really do anything like the attractions that followed or have any restraints of any kind

While I sincerely doubt Alien Encounter will be brought back, I think it would be 100x better than Stitch and on point with the theming of Tomorrowland.
Then again, anything would be better than Stitch.

Seems like its going to be tough to do anything thats really going to be a showstopper in that space.

Tomorrowlands the part of MK that really needs an uplift imo.

Its always the land i spend the least amount of time in. Ill do Space, Buzz, laugh floor, people mover, and yes i like the carousel of progress. But the only thing id ever repeat there would be buzz, whereas i can go back to Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland many times.

I dont know what they can do but they should do something. Speedway is valuable space, but it still draws huge crowds and is a classic.

I think Space Mountain needs an overhaul. When I was a kid, I loved Thunder Mountain. As I got older, Thunder Mountain became so uncomfortable that I didn't enjoy it very much. The pounding from the worn out, or just plain old, track was downright painful. After Thunder's big overhaul, it's now silky smooth and so much fun again. When we were at WDW in Dec. I just about swore off Space Mountain for the same reason I started to dread Thunder. The track is so uncomfortable, the bouncing and jarring and smacking is bad, it makes the ride less fun than it should be. There is no doubt in my mind that TommorrowLand needs a make over, but at some point they are just going to have to bite the bullet and shut down Space for a pretty serious overhaul.
