Stimulus Stalkers

I wasn't watching for mine so I was super surprised when I checked our bank account online yesterday (something I do everyday anyway) and the balance was much higher than I expected. Lo and behold our economic stimulus refund had been direct deposited. :thumbsup2

I'm not checking every few minutes...but since I'm here...BRB

I HAVE been a stalker to my bank automated line, I was counting on this $$$ for our disney trip in 10 days- but because I used turbotax I might not see it before we leave. I didn't want to have to use my disney visa while we are away; I wanted to use cash! And now, I might have to throw it on the CC. So, call me a stalker; whatever- I am hoping because my federal refund was direct deposited from the US TREASURY- that I'll be getting my $$$ by direct deposit. And the way this economy is going I think there are more of us than U! I wish I could be in your shoes!!!! Really! But I had planned on this $$ for WDW and yes, I'm checking every day!

From what I was reading on this subject, one should get it DD if you chose DD and did not pay for the fee with your refund.... like in my case our filing was free due to our income.... we choose the refund to be DD, so our rebate should be DD.

I hope this helps :thumbsup2

Seems people are taking things out of context. Not once did I say I was offended that certain people were so anxious. I said it saddened me. It saddens me because I myself would hate to be in such a position that $300 or $600 or $1200 could possibly mean so much to me that I checked my bank balance hourly.

Like some of you, I'm also a single mom. But I'm a chronic saver who refuses to pay interest on anything that can't be deducted from my income taxes, like a mortgage. It SADDENS me that families are so close to the breaking point that this money makes the difference.

And, for the record... I haven't told anyone how to spend his or her money. I've only given a hint about how a person can make his or her money work harder for them. Big difference.

I don't think you deserve the heat you're getting. Your posts are not mean-spirited at all and my take on your original post is that you are making an observation rather than a judgement. Also, while some are desperate to get the money to buy groceries, others complain about their finances but take really expensive vacations, so your post regarding financial advise is valid, IMO.

I understand, it saddens me too sometimes to be NEEDING this money but the fact remains that some of us don't have super duper jobs making high 5 figures or 6 figures.

Also, you all have got to admit that gas and groceries the last month or 6 weeks have been going up so much it's kind of out of hand and when you only work one job and one that doesn't offer overtime or anyway to make any more money than you already do it makes it hard to cover all the things we really need in life like gas and food and no I don't want to work 2 jobs because no amount of money is worth being away from my son longer than I already have to be. So this found money is really IMPORTANT to me right now.
Amen to that....I totally agree with you. popcorn::

I agree about costs going up. Next month my rent is being raised, and I already have higher grocery and gas bills. I was barely making it before, but we always somehow made ends meet. This month . . . :scared1:

I'm living paycheck to paycheck these days (sort of....working seasonally banking every other check then living off it later). I'm not counting on the stimulus check. When it shows up it will go to pay off a credit card.

And yeah the government does NOT want me to do that but stimulus payments were a stupid way to go to begin with. No this money doesn't come out of your refund next year. Where is it coming from? China, Japan, oil producing nations, Venezuela (its surprising how many of our enemies loan us money) ...people with money to buy our bonds. Eventually it will have to be paid back and it will be you and me doing the paying. Maybe we can pay it back with grain since the price of food is skyrocketing.

Even though it was after the fact and I don't plan to vote for him I thought John McCain had the right idea. Knocking 50 cents a gallon off the price of fuel until the winter blends kick back in would have been much much smarter. Your groceries would be cheaper, your transportation to Disney world, everything you buy that has to use fuel would be cheaper. People who live paycheck to paycheck would be the biggest beneficiaries....along with truck drivers. Instead we are forcing the IRS to process this massive plan at their peak season...so people are getting paid time and a half longer than they would otherwise get just to get a boatload of extra returns processed so people can get "free" money from the government...where's the logic?

You're correct....that is just you. Please don't judge anyone else until you've walked a day in their shoes. You have no idea what someone else's life circumstances are. In this economy right now, some are losing their jobs, gas prices are through the roof and yes some are desperately waiting on that money to help them through. I do live paycheck to paycheck. I'm a single mom with very little help in the way of child support. I put money away in a savings account for a rainy day, but I still live paycheck to paycheck as I don't touch the savings money. This stimulus check is taking my kids to Disney for the first and maybe only time, as it is for many others.

Thank God people like you aren't the one's deciding if people who are down should get help because it seems you'd rather kick them for being "stupid" and not having your life rather then help them back up on their feet. Some people aren't able to afford a college education, so they are stuck working jobs that don't pay very well. Doesn't make them leIss of a person or "bad" with their money, just is the way it is and who are you to say they need any advice. How about you put your stimulus check towards helping the poor get a better education, or to someone who has lost their job and can't afford to feed their kids???? Sounds like the best "advice" you could be handing out right about now.

Amen!!!!!

I'm stalking, but only because the stim. check is the downpayment for my DVC!!!

Well, you save yours, and I'll spend mine. That way I'm helping to stimulate the economy and we'll all be better off in the long run. My DH and I would be considered "middle-class". That is, not rich, and not poor either. We're paying our bills just fine, but an extra $1800 is welcomed anytime.

Oh good grief, you created an entire new post to complain about people and the stimulus check? Get a life, really.

So, was it there??? :lmao:

No...I better check again before I go to bed. It may be there when I wake up, so I'll check before I go to work. I'll check at work just in case it didn't get deposited in - OMG, I'm a stimulus stalker.

I guess I am stalking, but mostly because the sooner I can get it into savings, the sooner my money starts earning interest. . . . I am in no rush to get it, but it shouldn't bug anyone if I check my account daily AND everyone should put it to whatever use is best for them! :cool1:

But of course... I thought it rather rude to hi-jack the runaway stimulus threads. Thanks for your important contribution, and enjoy your stimulus check!

;)

I guess I am a stalker, too. I am a single mom that doesn't receive any financial help from my ex-husband of 12 years. I make a decent living, but it is just not enough to cover everything right now. I would rather live paycheck to paycheck than to remain in a marriage gone wrong. I do not need your advice, I need a larger paycheck to cover the increases in our cost of living. I am using that money as a backup for savings and my trip to Disney in June. I cannot believe that someone would create a new thread on a Disney board to complain about ME checking MY bank accounts for the rebate check. At least I am not checking YOUR accounts!:rolleyes1

One more thing, I have NOT called IRS or the bank. I bank online and just check it there.
:dance3:

I agree with the OP, if this money will make or break you, well then you have a bigger problem and a little financial advice should be taken from those that don't NEED the money.

.

If you honestly believe this then you are very lucky and very naïve.

Okay, everyone! Back away from the keyboards and take a deep breath.

I think that we'd all like to see those checks ASAP if we're getting one. There's not a single person that I know who hasn't had their budget sent into a tailspin by spiraling gas prices and grocery bills that are through the roof. For them, these checks will not be as much a way to stimulate the economy as they will be a way to keep afloat for the next few months while budgets are readjusted.

Let's not criticize those who are anxious to get theirs and let's not be jealous of those who are fortunate to make enough money to not merit the checks. So, both sides of the debate can stop the snarky comments now.
