Still checking numerous times a day on both skyscanner and momondo.
Need flights for 15th August to 31st August (16 nights). Only 14 and half weeks out and hoping and praying prices drop below £600 for 6 adults (well technically 1 is only 15 - rest over 18).
Anyone else waiting for flight prices to drop? Are they likely to drop? We booked in 2009 10 weeks before and only paid £500 each.

Have you looked at fly drive prices - some bargins to be had here.

Maybe we've been lucky, but in the past Expedia has been our friend, but next trip is booked direct with BA. Right time, right place i think.

Just keep checking. :)

I thought last minute cheap flights were a thing of the past?! Earlier you book the cheaper? We are going to Las Vegas in 50 days and the flight prices are unbelievable - PE one way £2600! We paid around £750 for PE. Return when flights were first released!

they are.

optimal time seems to be somewhere between 6 and 8 months out.
but you can never rule out a sale, or a last minute ticket.

It's easier for a solo traveller than for a larger party.
when you find a cheap or discounted fare, there needs to be enough seats at that price to allow you to purchase those fares

so, if an airline releases 2 seats at a very discounted fare, and you're a party of 3, the "deal fare" will show as sold out and you will automatically revert to the next (and more expensive) available fare class.

in my experience, starting at 6 months out, prices go up, and keep going up.
There will be deals, glitches and sales, but you need to be on the lookout everyday and book as soon as the price seems acceptable.

waiting might lead to a better fare, but more than often it will lead to a higher fare than booking at 6 or 8 months out.

but your mileage may vary.

There has been some great last minute flight bargains this year, from £188 return but unfortunately they are not going to happen in August.

Just keep looking and be flexible. For example you can book 18th-31st August from London to Jacksonville indirect with reasonable times for £642pp https://www.kayak.co.uk/flights/LON-JAX/2014-08-15/2014-08-31/6adults

Check this thread for other airports that are usually cheaper http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3265258

Wayne - Thank you sooo much!
I hadn't even considered Jacksonville - looked at Tampa and Daytona!
Have now booked going through skyscanner as they were even cheaper than Kayak. Have paid £3733 for 6 adults from Manchester to Jacksonville through Heathrow and Chicago there and dallas and heathrow back!
Was beginning to think I wouldn't get anything, but now I can sort everything else out.

Once again Thanks Wayne! :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

And I'm now in double digits so can do the dance :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

So Relieved!!!!!
