We just left Disneyland yesterday. My DH let me stay one extra day! :yay: :cheer2: We were in Ahaheim from June 11-18! :woohoo: We had a great time!! But (there's always a but...) OMG, the crowds were insane on Tuesday! What was up with that? Wednesday morning through about 12 noon was soooo much more manageable than Tuesday all day. (We left at noon, but I figured based on the early crowds that it was nowhere near as packed yesterday as it was on Tuesday.) Tuesday was so bad that it makes me want to extend our trips and never go on an early entry day again!:scared1: It was miserable wall to wall people. I LOL (sarcastically, to myself), because so many people said that early to mid June is nowhere near as busy as the Christmas Holiday season, but I seriously doubted that on Tuesday. :rolleyes1 It was insane! My DS and I heard so many people in the crowd complaining about the insane amount of people. I overheard cell phone conversations in which people were saying, "DL is insane right now, don't come!" It was nuts! I imagine it must be from all the 5 for 3 promos and locals coming in. :scared1:
:lmao: DL put up the electric sign in front of the security checkpoint that said "The parks are busy"-- well duh! Tell us something we didn't know!:rotfl: (We saw them when we went back after an attempted nap.) Also on Tuesday, Indy, Splash, Space Mountain and Screaming went down for extended lengths of time. Splash had a long line of people waiting for it to open since park opening time, and at 1pm when I checked back for FPs, it was still down and the CM told me that those people who were waiting were convinced it would be up and running soon, but she wasn't so sure about that. So we said forget it and never went back. Crazy! Seriously, there was a long line of people waiting and it was getting hot, hot hot! DS and I got sunburned from being in the park from 8-1pm w/ no sunscreen, and we are naturally tan. (We forgot the sunblock because of course, it was cool and overcast the entire previous part of our stay and we never needed it.) Re: ride closures, people, check back for FPs (they don't give them out when the rides are closed) and check back to see if the rides are working. And when it's that nuts, you have to criss cross the parks getting FPs and using SR, or you won't get on very much of anything. :scared: OTOH, gathering Fast passes early in the AM doesn't work when the rides are down! DS heard a man complaining to a CM and asking why so many things were down, and the CM said that's just the way it is when everything is running at full capacity and with full loads. :sad2: Luckily my DS had enough of the shows and was able to use our FPs or most of them while F! and fireworks was happening.
Oh yeah, the first showing of F! on Tuesday was canceled -- at 9:20pm! Everyone in the audience was booing like mad. It was horrible that they didn't make an announcement until that late in the game. (I know it's all about crowd control, but a lot of people were upset.) All along they said it was going to start, then, "We apologize for the delay but it will start soon," then I saw them taking down the ropes I knew we were in trouble. Sure enough, at 9:20 they said "Due to unforeseen circumstances" the show was canceled; however we were all invited to stay and watch the fireworks show :lmao: as if we were going to be able to move anywhere else! :rotfl2: At all 3 shows they announced the area had reached capacity and not to rush to leave for the courtesy and safety of other guests.
I know a lot of people were disappointed about F!'s cancellation. The place was packed like sardines for the first 2 shows. They added a 3rd show, and although still busy, it was nowhere near as insane as the first show! Tuesday was the first day that it got rather warm in the parks, but right after the first showing of F! it started to get cool really fast, so I was very happy I brought my jacket out of the locker, because there was no way I was going to be able to go and get it until well after the 2nd showing of F! that's how nuts the crowds were. So heads up if you are not used to that type of temperature change.
Oh yeah, we went to , Knotts Berry Farm, Seaworld, and gambled a bit (and won!) at Barona in San Diego! :woohoo: We really enjoyed Seaworld and Knotts! If I could have, I would have reversed our days and gone to Knotts on EE/MM day due to the insane crowds at DL on the EE/MM days.
Knotts was cute and we had a great day there. DS loved the thrill rides. I enjoyed the Ghost Town theme, I thought there were a lot of cute rides for the smaller kids, we personally enjoyed the 'not too crazy rides' (DS loved the Crazy rides) and the lack of crowds. You could practically walk on most rides. The one time I was told Ghostrider had a 1.5 hour wait, we left and came back later. We walked on in under 30 minutes right before closing. (8pm in early June, 10 later this month through Summer). All the Guest service people at Knotts were so nice and wished us a great day everywhere we went. We got the impression that they really appreciated our business and went out of their way to tell us so. DS did say that he noticed that some Guest service/CM people were not as nice to him when he was by himself but he figured it must be that the park has such a high attendance of local teens and some of them try to line cut and get away with stuff; so he sensed an attitude a couple of times when they told him he had to take off his jacket or wear it or that he had to take off his glasses. (Couldn't leave it tied around his waist for safety reasons, and anything loose has to be stored - but they provide storage areas.) DS said he had the impression that they probably thought that he was like some of the local teens who attempt to get away with anything and everything they can, and yes they do have teens like that all over DL too. He said he thought they thought he was a local teen and just playing dumb when he didn't know he was supposed to untie his jacket and store his glasses. He didn't take it personally, as he's seen the behavior by some of the local teens at both parks and yes, some do try to push the envelope with getting away with whatever they can get away with. On the bright side, he did see some local teens being escorted from a ride by security for line cutting, and DH & I saw some escorted from their train ride for acting up before the ride started. That was refreshing to see. (There were a lot of line cutting teens at DL on Tuesday on rides. I had to reprimand a couple of teens who tried to get in my way for F! after I sat there for 3 hours waiting for a decent spot -- and their mom was right there encouraging it! Heck no! I wasn't in any mood to put up with that!) Yes, the thrill rides at Knotts are nuts, but fun. I would avoid Ghostrider like the plague if you have any neck or back problems. Seriously. That is one crazy ride. If you like a lot of rides and little to no crowds, Knotts is the place for you. Great for a one day trip.
Seaworld was awesome! Loved the shows and didn't even manage to make it on the rides because we slept in, left late and hit some traffic on Saturday the 13th. But none of us cared because we enjoyed the shows.
Knotts and Seaworld are offering deals like buy one day, get the rest of the year free. Knotts has some $29 deals for up to 4 adults. We had a coupon, but I saw billboards for it. I think it's on their website too.
Gambling at Barona was fun because DH and I won! I won $1900 on $60 investment and DH won $1k on a couple hundred invested. People 18 years and up can gamble, but DS didn't care to go. He stayed at the hotel in Anaheim. (He's 19; and DH & I went to Barona after the early park closing for Grad night on Thursday night, the 11th.) It practically paid for our trip! :cheer2: :woohoo:
Anyway, we had a great time. I'm in Vegas now, so will try to do a TR if I can recall everything after the Vegas leg of my trip. :rolleyes1:laughing:
:flower3: For all who are going this month - have a great time! And imo and experience this June, in the summer, I would avoid early entry days like the plague unless you seriously don't have a choice.:scared: Sorry, I know that's an unpopular position, but Holy Carp ;) it was insane on Tuesday! :upsidedow

Thanks for the detailed report! Knowing that Splash, Space Mountain, and Indy all went down on Tuesday actually makes me feel BETTER--I had heard rumors of a 40 minute FP line (!) for Space Mountain and extended waits just to GET FPs for some other rides. But if the rides were down, that actually makes sense and hopefully will not happen again anytime soon.

Are you sure the issue on Tuesday was the MM day? I thought the main issue was tons of locals trying to get to the park before their passes blocked out for the summer. (Not that the latter scenario helps me much, as my visit is from Saturday - Tuesday morning, so I'll have 2.5 days of APs using their passes before they block out, and 3 days on MMs. :scared: )

Was Tuesday morning crazy too?

Good advertisement for Knott's too! ;) After all the crowd stories, I'm almost tempted to go, but I don't like any thrill rides bigger than Disneyland's (and won't even ride ToT!).

I'm sure the local AP holders had something to do with crowd levels. We are non-local DAP holders and were there before 7:30am waiting to get in at 8. The lines extended beyond the middle of the esplanade. It was so overwhelming that I took photos of it. I have it somewhere -- along with the 4,000 other photos I took. (Sorry I have to go through them, and I'm still on vacay...) I took quite a bit of overwhelming crowd photos because I couldn't believe how busy the so called non-busy, early to mid-June, non-crowds were!:scared1: Then we got in to the park, and I realized, it was just insane with MM people already in there as well. Walking in to DL we couldn't really walk because of the existing crowds that were already there. We had to shuffle along. There was no 'walking with purpose' on this trip. I tried to, and found myself getting separated from my son and DH. A couple of times I had to call them on their cell phones to find them because they got swallowed up by the swell of people. People just cut in front of you with/without strollers, etc. I felt so sorry for anyone having to use strollers, wheelchairs or EVCs. It was impossible and even downright scary for people in this situation as others would just cut in front of them and over them. Just insane! It wasn't even this busy on January 1 and 2. I heard many people referring to feeling like they were cattle. My DS sad he heard several young men making mooing type noises to represent that they felt like cattle being herded. It was insanely busy from beginning to end. :scared1:
ETA: In a nutshell, yes, Tuesday morning was crazy busy before we even got into the park, and it extended well into the night until closing time.

Wow! Those crowds were insane! There have been a couple of other threads regarding the crazy crowds this week, and Al Lutz addressed a bit it in his column. I hope this is not a trend that continues for the rest of the year. Hopefully it was just an influx of folks trying to get in before their block-out dates set in, but the new fireworks (in addition to the free birthday gifts) are certainly drawing an audience.

Anyway, DisneySuiteFreak - it sounds like you had a wonderful time and a really well-rounded trip in general, given your excursions to Knotts and Sea World, etc. I would be exhausted beyond belief after all of that but it sounds like so much fun!

Yes, please make sure to do a Trip Report and share some of your awesome pictures with us (and I know they must be fantastic because they always are!!:goodvibes) as soon as you can.

I must say it is refreshig to know that Dis security stepped in to stop the teen linecutters. I like to see that! Kids like that give the other teens that visit because they love Disney a bad name. Shame on them. I am like you Disneysuitefreak, I had to quickly put an end to some ill-behaved teens that were slowly inching in front of us line. (as if we didnt notice). So happy to see CM's step in! Glad you enjoyed your trip overall!

Tuesday was the last day that people with the SoCal Select passes could visit until August 17th.

Monday and Tuesday reached maximum capacity as per CM's, we were there as well and it was insane. Though not as bad as I would have expected "max capacity" to be? I don't know if Disney will plan like that again, because so many people were complaining. It was the last time for the So Cal AP holders to see the "summer nightastic" shows, so yeah, it was super crowded... :scared1: We didn't get a lot done at all, thankfully we were just there last month! I can't imagine if that was our first or second vacation to DL, I would have been so mad! It was literally wall to wall, we waited for 30 minutes to get an Indy FP, and 20 for a Space Mountain FP. This was at 10 am!!!

I totally agree with Ghostrider. I scared the crap out of me. :scared1: I think it scared me more that DS 7 was sitting in front of me with DH and was not holding on and was literally lifted out of his seat. As soon as we came down the first hill I grabbed him and told him to hang the heck on. If you sit in the very last car it is even scarier and faster. DS loved it but I actually found I could not ride it with him on the ride with me as it freaked me out too much. I have to say it was fun in a strange sort of way.

There's another (probably more popular) So. Cal AP that has its last days next week, over 2.5 days of my 3.5 day trip. :( So I'm afraid there's a good chance that next week will be insanely crowded as well. :(

Thanks Sherry! We did have a great time! I am pretty tired, and I'm sure I'll be even more exhausted as Vegas is a 24 hour town! :eek:I will start writing my notes soon.

Knotts sounds fun, i never go, i should make a trip. thanks for the report!
Thanks! I think everyone should go at least once and see it for themselves. I hadn't gone to Knotts since I was a little kid, but we really enjoyed it. It was such a night and day experience from the insane crowds at DL. And again, if you like thrill rides, it's a hop, skip, and a jump from DLR. I had heard that there wasn't much for the little ones to do there, but there were quite a bit of rides for little kids and they are all condensed in one area. We enjoyed Knotts more than Universal Studios Hollywood. (We went several years ago.) It seemed like there were far more rides/attractions at Knotts for all ages.

Sorry, but the security people who took the unruly teens out of lines were at Knotts. In fact, they have security forces at all the rides where there is a high concentration of teens and all they do is watch the line and enforce the rules of no line cutting or outrageous behavior. I was impressed with that! Anyone who has kids knows that they will always try to push the envelope to see how much they can get away with. It's up to the adults to reign them in and show them the line in the sand. I don't usually say anything to people who line cut, but for those people at F!, heck no! I waited for over 3 hours and they canceled the first show! I wasn't about to let those kids or their mother get in my way! ;)

Tuesday was the last day that people with the SoCal Select passes could visit until August 17th.
Yep, but the regular SoCal passholders and DAPs are not blocked out.
ETA: sorry I misread, the Socal passes are blocked out from July 1- August 15. I think with all the deals though, that there are a lot more DAP holders now than ever before.

It was wall to wall people, and I agree, if it were our first trip we might have been so overwhelemed we would have said to heck with it and never gone back. I felt so bad for some people. There were a lot of older grandparents in their 70's+ with wee little ones in tow and they just looked exhausted and overwhelmed. Poor things! In fact my DH refused to go to the park on Tuesday or Wednesday because he said it wasn't fun, it was clautrophobic (and he doesn't have claustrophobia) and he just enjoyed the Knotts and Seaworld experiences more because it was so much less crowded.

I totally agree with Ghostrider. I scared the crap out of me. :scared1: I think it scared me more that DS 7 was sitting in front of me with DH and was not holding on and was literally lifted out of his seat. My DH asked me if someone paid me $1k would I go on Ghostrider again, and I said, "Well maybe if they paid me $10k and it wouldn't be today, it would have to be another day so I could recouperate from today!" :scared1: :lmao: It was so funny because you can't see the other side of the ride and just how huge and crazy it is from inside the park. So when we got to the top of the first hill and I looked out and realized that OMG, that is wood, and I think it's part of this ride! I said to DH, "Is that part of this ride?" And he said, "Yep!" I said, "OMG!" AAAahhhhhhh! At the end of the ride, I was apoolgizing profusely for dragging DH on that ride. It was my bright idea! He didn't want to go on it, and I kept saying, "it doesn't look that bad..." So then I told him, "How did I ever let you talk me into going on that ride?" :lmao::rotfl2: He started :rotfl: and fogave me! :flower: My neck hurt the next day a little bit, but it's okay now. :scared:

There's another (probably more popular) So. Cal AP that has its last days next week, over 2.5 days of my 3.5 day trip. :( So I'm afraid there's a good chance that next week will be insanely crowded as well. :(
I hope the crowds are better for you than it was for us!
