Still not sold!

I have taken it as my duty to repeatedly point out that the ridiculously overpriced Homecoming Tickets have STILL not sold out!

It can only be the price. What's not to like about the event? Is this a sign of things to come? Will we now be treated to ridiculously overpriced member cruises? How about some ridiculously overpriced memorabilia and clothing?

It reminds me of an old song, "You always hurt the one you love." That could become DVC's new motto. Forget "Members are Magical."

I disagree. Certainly, the price is inflated, especially the price for members that already have APs, but most DVC members that had posted replies to this topic months ago, felt that it was announced to late for them to change their plans or get the reservations that would have wanted. Many expressed that they may have gone, maybe even regardless of price, if they had enough notice to have made a reservation within the 11 month window or before they had already booked another trip and used their points. So, I agree that the price is high, but that's not the only problem with this offering. Maybe not even, the major issue.
Thanks,
Rex

I'm not sure what would be the sell-out point. The events that are being held in the park could accomodate the whole DVC membership! The SSR event would seem to be the top-off number and I think even that could handle a large crowd.

While I agree that the price for this event was expensive for a family, it is pretty spectacular. If I could have traveled at this time, I would have tried to attend.

While I would like to see more reasonable events in the future, I hope this is successful. If it's not, we won't have to worry about them trying to put things together in the future.

I looked at PamOKW's "Size of each resort" thread, and there will be approximately 1250 on-site DVC Units available for the MH:

OKW 527
BWV - 383
BCV - 205
VWL - 136
SSR - 552 (but only 1 bldg / 50 rooms open)
(thanks to BWVDee & JimC!)

Assuming that each unit had 4 people, and that EVERY SINGLE DVC Guest bought tickets, that's still only 5000 tickets. (Yes, I know that a few MH attendees may be staying in non-DVC locations.) And I think it would be absurd to expect even close to 100% attendance - particularly since many people's plans were already made prior to MH announcement.

I therefore can't accept that price is the only reason it isn't sold out; I believe that, even if it were $100, there would still be a significant number of DVCers on-site at the time who wouldn't care to attend.

I am in the process of becoming a new member (just passed rofr last week!!!!), so please excuse me when I ask, what exactly is member homecoming? What are the benefits, and how much does it cost?

In our case, the reason is the price. We had a reservation for the week of this event at BWV before the event was announced, but we are still not buying tickets.

Our trip for that week was planned and scheduled way before the announcement was made. We're staying at BWV the whole week.

We would love to attend Homecoming, but it is TOO EXPENSIVE!

:guilty:

I am so glad to see by the responses that there IS a limit. Even WDW lovers can only be be squeezed so hard before they squeek!

We had our reservations at BCV before the announcement of the homecoming. We are not going because of the price. I don't care how you figure what the perks are worth, it's still too much for 2 days. I think DVC would have done better if they sold some tickets to each individual event, rather than an entire package. I think some folks would have spent $75 a ticket for one of the events. I also think some people don't want to "use" their entire vacation time around 2-3 days of events, another reason I think that individual event costs would have been better. JMHO

The cost wasn't an issue with us, we just felt like going so we bought tickets. If we had decided not to go, again it wouldn't have been based on cost but other factors. Is it worth it? For us, but obviously not for everyone.

We were booked for the first week in May when this event was announced. I was soooo excited because my hubby and I NEVER travel to WDW in the summer. We felt like we missed out on all the fun activities last summer with the Family BBQ's at the BCV and BWV last summer that this would give us a chance to join in with our DVC family. When I heard the price I thought "no way" and my hubby echoed the same thing. We went to WDW 4 times last year and we almost always go into a park every day. There would be no reason for us not to hold Annual Passes but even with that reduction to the cost, I still felt these tickets were way too high. jmho :sunny:

I really really really wanted to go, but with such short notice... I couldnt get all my DVC ducks in a row.

And I will go as far as saying I dont think it is overpriced.

I agree about it being too expensive!

We had booked the BCV at the 11 month window, before MH was announced.

For what it will cost for my family to attend, we will be spending an entire week in October (on points, of course). Some will argue about adding in the cost of membership, etc.; however, the fact remains that DVC is paid for and that money has been spent-so now when I stay I dont consider the cost of accommodations because I have no more out of pocket expense.

One week in Disney vs. MH=no brainer, especially since we have APs.

So, see ya in May (and October)!

Fairfield, Ohio also?

I guess we can take all of that money we will be saving from the school levy not passing and spend it on DVC. I hope you did not have any kids in music or sports like us or kids that will need bus to high school next year. Too many voters said "too expensive."

I wish they would price each event seperately. We had our ressie before they planned this and we leave on the 26th. I would have gone to the MK event.

At the particular time of year this event is scheduled, there are bound to be other scheduling conflicts, such as graduations, etc. that would prevent some DVCers from attending. We are going since it is my birthday; as far as I'm concerned, DH is getting off cheap! ;)

It's sad that some of people just can't be appreciative that there is another entertainment choice being offered by DVC, and end it at that. There are alot of entertainment options that I choose not to partake in, i.e. Packer games, for instance; that also cost quite a bit of money. But I don't put anyone else down if they choose to spend their money on those types of things.

Personally I am going to go to MH, have a good time and hope they make it an annual event!

Nancy :earsgirl:

They screwed up big time regarding the timing of the invites if you got one at all. I compained I never got one this week and was told that more invites are going to be sent out again this week. They are hurting regarding the amount of positive responses. The whole thing sounds to me like a plan to get you to buy at SS but who knows. It was really poorly planned as far as the time of the notifications. What else is new regarding DVC??
