Still do Reservations without tickets?

I swear I remember back in the day, if you had a reservation at a restaurant but didn't have park tickets, they'd check you in at the gate and give you like 2 or 2.5 hours to eat and get back to the gate and wouldn't charge you. However, I can't seem to find a word about it anywhere, so I'm wondering if I was just imagining it or if I'm just not typing the right search terms. Can anyone give me info on this? Thanks!

Don't know about back in the day, but now you need a ticket....no freebies, sorry. :confused3

Maybe you are thinking about reservations at Hotels...can park there for free for 2-3 hours for your reservation?

Definitely not possible in the parks.

I think I may be thinking of that other park-ish thing in the same area  Well crap.

Another question, then. For example, If my reservations (hotel/package) start on the 29th, can I use a park pass on the 28th? Or do I HAVE to wait until the 29th to use a park pass?

I realize this question has become slightly off topic for this area, now, but we want to eat the day before we officially "arrive".

You can pick up your package tickets up to 3 days early as of right now, but no one knows if that will change when the magic bands are fully implemented. The info can be found in post 15 section I of the ticket sticky on the Theme Parks and Strategies forum.

You're welcome, and :welcome: to Disboards! :goodvibes

Back in the day Disney used to do that shopping pass thing where you could enter the park without a ticket for an hour or so...it may have been good for restaurants too. Perhaps that's what you were remembering.

I'm glad you found a solution, but just wanted to let you know you're not imagining something similar :)

I thought so! They would give you a set amount of time to be back at the gate. It wasn't super advertized, but if you asked for it, they'd let you do it. I swear I vividly remember doing it because I can remember wanting to ride the rides and being chastised that we had a set amount of time and dinner was it. Granted, it was a LONG time ago, but I swore I remembered doing it.

Thanks for that, maybe I'm not as crazy as I thought! haha

And thanks for the welcomes! Long time lurker, just always found the answers I was looking for through search so never made a username. :D

As smitch425 posted, you can get your park tickets up to 3 days prior to the start of your package. However, if you have the dining plan, that will not be available to you until your official arrival date when you check in at the resort. You mentioned wanting to eat before you officially arrive, so I wasn't sure if you were also asking about DDP credits.

No, not using DDP that day, just wanted to be able to go into the parks. Thankks though :)
