Still amazed at the folks who don't get Fast Pass!

Well, there was a man in the stand-by line for RnR yelling and being very obnoxious to the CM that was letting the fast pass people go through. "How about this line, buddy - why can't you let this line move, what's the holdup - etc." It was really flustering the CM. If I'd been in the standby line I probably would have opened my big mouth to him! I don't know if he's one that just doesn't understand Fast Pass - or just obnoxious! My DD did yell as we walked up the ramp into the building, "Get fast pass if you don't like the wait!" It was a 90 minute wait - there's no way I'd stand in a stand-by line with a wait that long. We were there last week and it was very crowded - especially the MK. The longest we waited for anything - besides waiting for a show to start - was 30 minutes and that was for Test Track - which had of COURSE - broken down! Everything else we either walked right on or had a very short wait. It can be done!!

Keep in mind that you are dealing with a cross-section of the human race at WDW. All manner of intellects, interests and preferences.

I remember on our last trip we stayed at AKL. While waiting on the bus back from the AK theme park to the lodge, we stood next to a family that became increasingly agitated while waiting for the bus. Problem was, they'd see ARRIVING busses that said "Animal Kingdom" on their marquee, and think "oh, here's ours". Then the bus would stop at another loading spot and change the marquee to the resort they were returning to. It never occurred to them that A) ALL the busses arriving said "Animal Kingdom", and they should be looking for the one that says "Animal Kingdom LODGE". Imagine our relief when the lodge bus finally showed up :D

We were at Disneyland in May with my son's high school band. DH and I were walking around and saw some of the band kids I know well standing in a LONG line for HM. I said "why don't you get a fast pass" and one of the kids said "we don't have those kind of tickets". I took one of them by the arm and said "come with me" and lead them to the FP machines. Another kid said "these cost like $5 each"! I said "they do not!" The first kid said "if these end up costing us money you are paying for it!!"

To make a long story short, after a short FP education they left very grateful and happy and I felt like I'd shared a little pixie dust!

Careful now! Don't force fast pass on people. If the return time is way off in the future or worse, the fast passes are "sold out", you will have egg on your face or have to eat your hat.

seashoreCM, very true, but in this case we'd just come from the FP machine ourselves so I knew it would be a good thing for the kids! :D

I was talking to a family at MK (they were very unhappy about how long the lines were) and I asked them if they had been using FP at all ----- of course, the reply was a big "NO!"..... followed by "we're not staying at a Disney hotel"......

I blurted out "But you don't have to be a resort guest.... FP is for EVERYONE!"...... to which the mom responded "but a lady in the restroom told me it was ONLY for resort guests..."

She was holding a park map in her hand and I opened it to the big ad for FP and pointed to the info that clearly said it was for EVERYONE...... her response was "I saw that...... BUT the lady in the bathroom said you HAD TO BE a resort guest...."

I guess some folks are just destined to be misinformed.

Just an observation here... if you have a 1-day park admission and use it at say, MK -- that is the only place you can obtain FP's... in 99% of circumstances that is totally fine... In our case, my dad used a 1-day park admission into MK in the a.m. with us then stayed at the hotel when part of our group went to MGM -- Not thinking, I tried to put his card into the FP machine and it gave me an invalid ticket reading... Once I figured out why, it made sense... that card was coded only to be used at MK.

There have been occasions when we were in the fast pass line walking by the stand by line and heard comments and saw dirty looks and nobody in the f.p. line was hooping and hollering but it is apparent that some people don't read their maps and information. I recently had a conversation with the receptionist in my dd's orthodontist's office who told me she had gone to WDW in April. Not only did they not use or know about fast pass but they didn't know about p.s. seating or CHARACTER meals. She said he dd would have loved to have seen princesses at a meal but instead they stood in the autograph lines in the parks. They saw parades but had no idea what Fantasmic was about so they didn't see that either. I felt so sad for her. We are very fortunate to have websites like DIS that provide us with so much information because even if you aren't a WDW "addict" like some of us, it will only make a vacation better to know these things and not just show up expecting your local amusement park or state fair. The folks that go to Disney not knowing anything are usually the ones who say, "We went and I don't get what is so great."

When your dad's 1 day (non-hopping) pass used at MK wouldn't beget a fast pass from an MGM machine, how did he get admitted to MGM in the first place?

The dad didn't go to MGM. Just gave the group his ticket in case it could be used for extra FPs. That is, if I read it right...

WE have been heckled before (more than once) as we walk through the fast pass line. And we weren't whooping and hollaring! We were walking normally. I thought one guy was going to punch us.

I also hear things like: While at MK, we were walking towards Space Mountain. There was a HUGE line. It was a 90 minute wait in the standby line. The Fast Pass return time was for 90 minutes later. A wife was trying to convince her husband to get a fast pass. He said, "I don't want to have to come back here in an hour and a half." So they got in the standby line. Huhh??? He'd rather wait there for an hour and a half than come back?? Why not go get an ice cream cone or something or ride the People Mover ride or something???? That type of thinking doesn't make sense to me.

This is why people who have never been (and don't have a DISer friend to help!) should go to a travel agency that specializes in WDW vacations. They'll educate the client on what's available (like FP's and PS's) and help them get a good deal on the package, too! Once they go and get the lay of the land, then they can book it themselves for the next trip, if they want.

Travel agents offer more than just airline tickets! We really know the destinations we sell! (well, the good agents do, anyway!)

Really, those that go to ANY destination that costs as much as WDW and doesn't do any research get's what they deserve!

We went five years ago in October. We would get Fast passes but when we went to use them the Fast pass line would be longer than the regular line so we would just go in that line instead but the Fast passers would grumble that we got on the ride first. I think maybe they had timing wrong on the machines but it doesn't take a genius to just switch lines.
