Still amazed at the folks who don't get Fast Pass!

i think the notion that you have to pay for fastpass comes from local parks that you DO have to pay for their fastpass system (ie: six flags new england).

jennymouse, that was very nice of you ::yes::

Yep, Six Flags St. Louis has a "pay" system for their version of FP. They have a lot of nerve charging for *anything* extra given the horrendous condition of that park.

In defense of us people who do not use fastpass. We come several times to WDW during each each year. If I don't ride something this time I will next time. Also, we love looking at the decor and story telling that goes on in the que lines.

Actually we hate it when there is no lines and you walk right on. This just happened to us at the Tree of life. I like walking slow and looking at everything and it actually got difficult with other people coming. Most of the people got annoyed that we were not moving faster, even though we would move to the side to lket them pass.

It is also nice way to meet and talk to other people. You would be surprised what you can learn, just talking or listening.

What a nice thing you did jennymouse!

I'm going in September with a friend who has never been. She asked me if we were going to pay extra for FP because her IL's were there this spring and told her about it but they didn't want to pay for it.

So I explained to her how it works. And she couldn't believe how dumb her IL's were.

The information I've seen says you have to have a certain type of ticket to use FastPass(like a Park Hopper).

Don't get me wrong, I love Fastpass, and I use it. But I think there's a little bit more strategy involved than just going to the Fastpass machine every single opportunity I get. If I can get on something standby in twenty minutes or less, I'd just as soon do that as get a ticket to come back in an hour or two, especially if the queue area is interesting or I'm really excited about that particular ride. I usually don't need to eat or drink or use the bathroom in between every couple of rides. And I don't really feel lazy or dumb for not going to another attraction in that time either. Not all of us are clueless. Some of us are just enjoying our privilege of covering the parks in whatever way we like to do it.

1) Many folks do not use Fast Pass
2) For us (familiar with it) it does seem strange
3) However,
. . . some don't notice it and don't read about it next to the ride
. . . some just don't get or read the maps
. . . some come and wander, like a normal amusement park
. . . some don't bother to get guidebooks or other park info
. . . some don't know to investigate, like using websites

Let me clarify! I'm not talking about the people who don't USE Fastpass - I'm talking about the folks that don't "get" it as in understand it. We often get a fast pass for TOT and then go get in line for RnR so I know there's times when you woudn't need or be able to use fast pass. But the folks I talked to in line didn't understand that ANYONE can get a fast pass for free.

NCombs - ANYONE - even one day ticket holders - can get and use fast pass. You do not have to have a certain type of ticket. Perhaps you're confusing Fast pass with E-night? You do have to have a multi-day ticket or AP and be a resort guest to get an E-night ticket.

Yeah, it's very funny how many don't get fastpasses. Then there are also those who are fastpass obsessed! hehehe. I used to work "It's Tough to Be a Bug" at AK, and we don't run the fastpass machines unless it's really high attendence. Still, without fail, I'd get half a dozen people asking me where the fastpasses were or why they were down. Ummm....because there's only a 5 minute wait......lol! (the wait time is posted right above the entrance.)

It's funny how people have different perspectives on wait time. When I worked the Aladdin carpet ride and the posted wait was about 20 minutes, I'd get a family that says "hey look, it's only 20 minutes. That's not bad." and 5 minutes later, another family comes along and goes, "20 minutes? That's too long!"

I was talking to some lady in K-mart who just got back. She said had a wonderful time and I asked her if she used FastPass. She said - oh no, we had special convention passes and we didn't want to pay extra. When I told her anyone could use it, her son was still yelling at her when we walked out the door. We call them there people -- Disney Dummies.

Had a young couple jump line and get in front of us as we entered the fastpass line last July for Splash Mountain. We had waited 5 hours to use our fastpasses, and didn't feel it was right for someone to jump into this line that didn't belong, but to be nice, we didn't say anything to them during our short wait. They kept laughing and looking around like they had gotten away with something, but we were the ones laughing when we got to the loading platform and the couple was not allowed on the ride since they did not has a fastpass. Made us feel good that no one can cheat the system. Fastpass is great, hope everyone doesn't find out about it, because just as the long wait we had for splash mountain due to the heat, I think every ride would be like this if every guest used the fastpass system.:earsboy:

stories like that really make me feel better, as a paying guest - whether it be to Disney or any other amusement park. It frustrates me to no end when people think they can cut the line and get away with it. This isn't Disney related, but one day late last summer we went to Six Flags Great Adventure, where it can be pretty hot and humid. We were at the beginning of an hour wait for the Superman rollercoaster when a group of kids pushed by us. Those kids eventually pushed their way all the way up to the front, but when they got there, they were kicked off the line. Anyone who has been to Great Adventure in the summer knows that that was definitely the highlight of my day.

Shhhhhhhh....I like this secret too!!! :p

jennymouse...that was so sweet!!! :)

I've seen people think they're going to "cheat" and go in the FP line without a pass and seen them turned away...it makes me :teeth:

I have a friend who works at WDW who has gotten us in with his free pass before. When we've come through the turnstyle they give each of us a ticket just so we can have one to use in the FP machine!

In the WDW park brochures it says....Disney's FASTPASS service is easy to use and cuts the wait time on the most popluar attractions. And it's included in your Theme Park admission!

Seems pretty clear doesn't i?!?!? I don't see how people get confused unless ,like some have said, they're use to other theme parks that do charge for a service like this! :scratchin

As a veteran of many trips with my "vacation by the seat of our pants" parents (they once drove to the end of our driveway, then asked each other, "Okay, where are we going this time?"), I think those of us who plan and research are definitely in the minority. And people who won't plan or research a trip to WDW, probably won't bother to read the handouts they give you at the parks, either. They might glance at the map to find the nearest restroom or place to eat, but they're not going to read it word for word. They probably also start in the front of each park and do the attractions methodically before moving on (I speak from experience here), and trying to use fastpasses would just require too much thought and (in their opinion) loss of freedom. (They also probably wouldn't be able to find their way back to the attraction that they have the fastpasses for!) I wonder just how many "let's just wing it" types have read their handouts on their way home and said "Oh, sh**! We could have used fastpasses after all!"

On several occasions on recent visits I have walked slowly through the Fast Pass queueing area specifically listening for grumbling and watching for finger pointing, about "privileged people" getting to the front of the line without waiting. I did not see or hear one adverse reaction. At least not yet.

I've heard the usual comments (for some reason, I've noticed the most on Splash Mountain, going through the FP queue in the cave). The grumbling is very similar to what I'm doing when I'm in line at Six Flags and see their 'Q-Bot' or whatever it's called being used. People are so conditioned to being charged extra, it liekly never occurs to them that such a useful service could be free (well, inculded in your park admission, that is).

I have seen at least one family ask the FP taking CM how much FP costs. It took a minute for it to sink in, but at least a handful of people got educated that day.

But, like I told my dh, if they can't figure it out with it posted on the maps and everywhere in the parks and explained in detail on the planning video then they are probably beyond all help.

I think these people were in front of us at the Safari ride at AK in 2002. This family, husband, wife and 2 boys, were complaining about FP and the wife said it was the worst thing Disney had ever done. DS, DH and I just laughed.

Wow. I'm not sure why I thought only certain tickets could use Fast Pass. Not I really don't understand the huge line at Splash Mountain 2 weeks ago. Oh well, we made great use of it.

If I happen to be waiting in a stand-by line and overhear a conversation about the "special fast pass people" I may or may not offer assistance to the people commenting. If it is a true inquiry and they seem just baffeled by the fast pass system, I offer to explain. If it is a large complaint-fest about advantaged people, I just snicker and keep walking. Sometimes its all about the attitude.

What I see WAY more often is small groups of fast passers running through their side of the queue, whooping and yelling. It's a wonder how it can be a secret anymore with all that racket! lol ;)
