Steve Irwin died!

Wow, after reading this I feel like the worst person on Earth! I know I will be bashed and flamed and probably hunted down at my house and killed but I didn't care that much! Not that I didn't care, that is bad phrasing, but I didn't know the guy. I feel truely terribly for his family, I really do, especially his wife and young children but to say that I am deeply saddened would be a lie. It's sad that he's gone but I cannot feel personally about it because I know nothing about him besides what is publicly shown. I'll end with saying that eventhough I didn't feel terribly badly, his family was still in my prayers last night because I do have sympathy for them.

Sorry if I disturbed you! lol. . .What I meant was they will never experience him personally again. . .I know that he left a legacy I was just trying to make a point.
I think it was just your wording that bothered me, but on that subject, I'm not really sad for the animals. They have the amazing zoo staff and his family who will continue steve's work. I am sad for Terri, and Bindi, and Robert. I am sad for our children, who will never grow up watching him. But they will grow up watching Bindi, who has her own program, which is why he was filming those stingrays. I am sad for the generations who he will never touch, and who will never really understand why we're sad. But Steve lives on in that zoo, and in the hearts of thousands, and he lives on in film. He had thousands and thousands of hours of documentaries that I plan to watch again. Just because he is dead, doesn't mean his message is. Steve Irwin was a great man. And even if you don't believe in a war, believe in the warrior. Millions of people never met that man, but millions of people's hearts sank when they heard he died. Steve Irwin was a personal hero of mine.

I know its really sad and I read it yesterday on my home page. they even caught it on tape..but its so sad i wont watch it. it will prolly be gross too.. so RIP and i hope his family is takin it ok. :guilty:

They accidentally filmed a man DYING. They're not going to show that part of the documentary. Except maybe to Terri.

I think they should show the documentary up to that point and dedicate it to him.

But I watched an interview with the camera man, and if you have a weak stomach, or this has greatly affected you, you may not want to read this. I'll write in white, so highlight it if you really want to know what was said.

The camera man said that steve was gesturing since he was underwater and couldn't speak. Then you see the ray jerk upward and stab him. Steve pulls it out and instanly goes into shock, but his heart doesn't stop beating and the water fills with blood and the cameraman came up, but steve didn't. He died as soon as he pulled the sting out. He didn't suffer.

okay. I teared up while writing that. But if anyone sees that, it'll be terri.

I knew before Terri did. They had to fly her in to ID the body. People around the world knew her husband died before she did. Thats horrifying to me.

yeah. everyone dies someday. So ryan, you've never been shocked when someone died, even someone you didn't particularly care for?

I already explained why I said what I said. I knew it was going to happen one day or another. People die everyday. I wasn't shocked in the least when I heard it.

Excuse me? I never said I wanted to see him die, I just said that I was indifferent to his death.

you dont have to like his shows to like the guy. i didnt like his shows either but yet, i still liked him. his personality was so.......bubbly.......and now that this incident happened, its gone. my sister used to have a wiggles tape with him guest starring on it......i wish she still had it.

yeah it was but still, cant you have more sympathy? :furious: :guilty: :sad2: :sad1:   this man was.....a legend.....and for you to say, oh well, it was gonna happen some day and stuff like that? its kinda mean! (IMHO) :confused3 i guess i am so overwelmed by it that i cant stand when people dont have any sympathy for horrible accidents/events.......................... :guilty:

Yeah, how nasty and despicable of me. To be indifferent about the death of somebody. I'm a cruel, cruel person.

New report-
BRISBANE, Australia - Steve Irwin, the hugely popular Australian television personality and environmentalist known as the Crocodile Hunter, was killed Monday by a stingray during a diving expedition, police said. He was 44.

Irwin was filming an underwater documentary on the Great Barrier Reef in northeastern Queensland state when the accident occurred, Sydneys The Daily Telegraph newspaper reported on its Web site.

The Australian Broadcasting Corp. said Irwin was diving near Low Isles Reef near the resort town of Port Douglas, about 1,260 miles north of the state capital of Brisbane.

he was a australian icon.

I understand that people die everyday, they do, but he died at a young age in a tradigc accident. I know you weren't attached to him but what people are getting at is that it's sad and you don't have any sympathy towards it.The point is his children don't have a daddy, Bindi doesn't have a father to walk her down the aisle when she gets married, Bob can't catch his first crocodile with The Crocodile Hunter, Terri is a single mother and a widow, and the world has lost one of the most influential conservationist ever. I know all those things are harsh and hard to read but it's the truth and for you not to be sad in the least bit about it makes people angry. I hardly ever watched his shows or knew anything about him but I can honestly say I didn't sleep well last night. Losing anybody to that kind of death is not something you want to hear about-nobody wants that to happen. I just pray that he made it to heaven.

Do you really think he's the only dad who dies every day? Do you think he was the most important father figure who stopped breathing? The point I'm making is, their are widows every day. I don't understand how you have so much sympathy to THIS particular case, and yet nobody makes threads about other people who die every single day.

I have sympathy for Terry as a mother, and her children as children without a father. But am I really going to spend my whole day thinking about this ordeal?

I have to disagree here. I would LOVE to see it, not out of cruelty so don't bash me for wanting to see it. Ratings for news stations would skyrocket! Put it on PPV and let it make tons of money that way! Ok, so the last 2 sentences aren't anything serious, just something my mother and I were tossing around watching the news today. Seriously though, why not show it? Sure, someone died on camera. They show people dying in car accidents. How many times have you seen footage of the 9/11 events? And that was THOUSANDS of people. What makes this particular tape any differnet. I think that it's wrong to hold one 'death tape', to put it simply and mildly harshly, under a different standard than any other.

I agree with a post by Bellhop (If I remember the name correctly) that children lose parents everyday, for whatever reason. I, too, will not have a father to walk me down the isle; however, people who realize that don't dwell on it. It makes people feel badly when you dwell on things for so long.

Off my soapbox for the day.

I was just trying to express other people's opinions and why people are upset over his death. I realize horrible things happen everyday, I mean what happened to Steve could have happened to anybody, but that should't take away from it. People have reasons for not starting threads about other people dying, it's a hard subject and not everybody is comfortable with it or knows who died. You have to understand that I liked Steve Irwin and I have sympathy for anyone who has lost a family member. I'm not saying you should think about it all day but you should understand why people are upset and why it's a sad thing to have happen to anyone. I realize what you're getting at I'm just saying that a lot of people are hurt by what happened.

That makes perfect sense. Not everybody has the same opinion. I just got upset because some people didn't seem to find it sad, I just got fired up over it :goodvibes

I"m going to try to say this without sounding mean, because I really don't mean to.

I don't think you or I have the right to that tape. If my husband whom I claimd his whole life I fell in love with him the moment I saw him died on film, I would not want anyone to watch him die. and I would want everyone to respect that.

No, that didn't sound mean to me at all and agree with you that I wouldn't necessarily want my husband's death to be nationally viewed but to say that the only reason that they shouldn't show it is that it was because he died is something that I disagree with. The press is always showing deaths on tape and, like I had said before, this one shouldn't be any different. I totally understand how his family wants their privacy and if that was what was said, I wouldn't have said anything. It was just the reasoning for not showing it that bothered me. I hope that made sense and I'm not trying to offend people but it's how I feel.
