Steve Irwin (crocodile hunter) dies..........

I read some of the articles yesterday. The interview with Wes really touched me. :sad1:

I was watching a show on the TV guide channel the other day in remembrance of Steve Irwin. They showed a clip from his funeral and Bindi speaking at it (that was the first I saw it). All I can say is WOW. And she's only about 8, right? To be so calm up there. I was almost in tears.

Binid was 8 at the time of Steve's passing yes. She turned 9 in July and as they do every year for her birthday, they have a big party for her at the Zoo and all children accompanied by a paying adult are admitted free.

It's hard to believe it's been a year already....RIP, Steve.

Steve Irwin death video revealed

Secret video of the fatal stingray attack that claimed Steve Irwin's life has been described in detail for the first time today, one year after the tragic incident.

The tape was reportedly destroyed at the request of the family, but skipper Pete West — who was at the scene of the attack — told News Ltd he is one of a select few who have seen the footage.

Poll shows more worried about Bindi

Australians are becoming increasingly worried about the pressures on Bindi Irwin, a magazine poll indicates.

A New Idea magazine online poll illustrates a change in attitude toward the nine-year-old daughter of the late wildlife warrior Steve Irwin and his wife, Terri.

Tuesday marks a year since a stingray fatally speared its barb into the Crocodile Hunter's chest while he filmed one of his nature documentaries on Batt Reef near Port Douglas.

In the month after his death, the magazine conducted an online poll which revealed 68 per cent of the 1,039 respondents believed Bindi should immediately continue her father's conservation work.

In the poll, to which 791 people responded, just 49 per cent said they believed the youngster should be shouldering that responsibility.

Last year, just six per cent of people said Bindi should instead focus on her schooling, but that figure jumped to 17 per cent in the poll.

Bindi this year launched her own clothing line and television series, has appeared in a stage show, and also works at the family's Australia Zoo on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.

Its good to see the rest of the country can see what her family can't. She is 9 years old. Her father was 30 when he went into the family business, let her grow up enjoy her childhood and leave the work to his widow. She is the adult after all, and if she can't because she is a grieving widow then her 9 year old daughter can't because she is a grieving CHILD.

Actually I agree with you. I never for one minute expected Bindi to shoulder any responsiblity to do with the Zoo or anytihng that Steve did. She is far too young for any such thing. Terri has taken on a more active role in some things and the rest I think is done by John Stainton and Wes.

However, Bindi is very passionate about her animals and what she sees the zoo as becoming, just as her Dad was. In time I think she will take on some responsibity (when she is about 10 yrs older than she is now). But maybe not. She will probably end up going to University, she is very bright young girl. Regardless of what she does or when she does it, it's her life and her decision.

Maybe it's just me......

But, I've wondered about whether the family really destroyed the tape. :confused3

Nope, it's not just you. I've never voiced my concerns on that subject before, but I have wondered if they don't actually have a copy of it. Even though we all now how horrid it would be to see, I think I'd like to see it if it were my DH or one of my loved ones. Not that you'd be wanting to watch it over and over, but just to know you have it.:worried:

My thoughts exactly! :teleport:

Personally, I think they said it was destroyed to quiet the media. Steve's whole life was documented so it is hard for me to believe they would destroy this tape. Even though they might not be able to watch it now - I would think they would keep it for future generations of the family, in case anyone down the line wanted to see it.

Animal Planet is still running Steve tv specials this week. Tonight one of them is "Crikey, What an Adventure" about his life. I'll be watching! :happytv:

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe I read some place that when Steve first started on Animal Planet he made about $2,000.00 an episode. At the end of his life he had become part owner or had some sort of interest in (I believe) the Discovery Channel.

I don't believe at all that there are no copies of the tape around. I credit everyone involved for not releasing it and personally don't want to see it. However, I think its very naive to believe that all copies were destroyed. I think its horrible that the man who claimed to be a witness (or cameraman or something) spoke to the media about what was on the video.

I'm watching Animal Planet now. Its a special I haven't seen.

I'd also again like to thank Nutsy for the links and updates.

BratTink and Lucas I agree with you both whole heartedly I very much doubt that there is not one copy of that tape lying around somewhere. As for it being destroyed and Terri did say that she never wanted to see it. We all say and do things in times of grief that later when we look back we see it all differently. She was a grieiving widow who had just lost her soul mate and I can quite understand she would not wish to view the footage. However, one would wonder though that in time would she not wish to see it. Maybe not, maybe just to know she has it for one day in the future. I think if it were me in her situation, it would be a comfort just knowing I had the final moments on tape if I ever I felt I could watch it.

Who is to say that when the children are much older that they wouldn't wish to see it? Who knows? I don't believe it should ever be realeased to the public though. It needs to be kept private and well away from the public.

BratTink youi are more than welcome for updates and links.

Not sure if you guys are aware or not, but November 15th has been declared "Steve Irwin Day". There are going to be big celebrations at the Zoo. A Celebration of his life, not a day to mourn, but a day to rejoice.:thumbsup2

Summer is winding down and the stores don't have a lot of summer clothes left out. Wonder where I could find khaki shorts and a shirt? :scratchin
