Steve Irwin (crocodile hunter) dies..........

I was never a fan of his either.. that was until we went to Australia Zoo. My boys liked him but DH and myself thought he had a screw loose and said he was an accident waiting to happen.

But when you see him in person and you see the passion and the love he had for the animals we changed our minds. He was a very genuine, caring person. What you saw on tv was the real Steve.. he was the same in front of the camera of off camera.

There is talk of him being given a State Funeral. I had expected he would when I heard the tragic news.He was a legend and put Queensland on the map.

No matter what was going on, if I saw him on the TV I couldn't help but laugh and smile :goodvibes

Thoughts and prayers for his family :sad1:

:sad1:

I hope his family and crew at Australia Zoo are able to keep up his good work. It's going to be a tough time for them.

When I first saw this thread, I honestly thought it was fake. I had no idea! My DH loved to watch him. . . :guilty: My heart goes out to his family and close friends. :grouphug:

He leaves a great legacy of increasing awareness of environmental causes. As tragic as his death is, it's comforting to know that he did so much good while he was here. All of the DISers here who have posted about how much their children loved him are most likely the parents of kids who'll be more aware of protecting animals and the importance of conservation. That's a great accomplishment for someone only 44 years old! I hope his family is comforted by that knowledge in the difficult time ahead.

This post sums it up perfectly for me.
My DD(12) has been a Crocodile Hunter fan for many years and he has changed our lives. She's a snake lovin', reptile lovin', animal lovin' girl now and isn't afraid of them because of the influence of Steve Irwin. I believe she and many kids who were fans of his will grow up and care for animals in a different way because of him.

I hate that we all knoew first, before his dear wife, Terri. It is tragic and I beleive a huge loss for the world of conservation. But the man did more in his 44 years than most do in a lifetime. RIP, Steve Irwin.

What a horrible accident. He made us all more aware of conservation and his love of animals was so obvious. R.I.P. Steve Irwin. I, for one, promise to keep true to your philosophies and I will try to pass them on to my child.

This is terrible. I wonder if the attack was filmed? They were shooting a documentary. :guilty:

This is just absolutely heartbreaking. I feel so very sad for his wife and children. :sad1:

This is hard to believe. I can't think of a person who seemed more full of life.

RIP Crocodile Hunter. Thanks for everything. :(

Such sad,sad news. Prayers for his family.
He seemed to have lived more than the average hundred people combined. His conservation message was unending and influenced so many.
