Wales is the same.
You get stereotyped by the clothes you wear and what you look like initially, then the grades you get and which part of town you live in.
Now my clothing style isn't outraegous but it's hard to stereotype. I have spots, don't wear waaay too much make-up and let's face it i'm not pretty therefore i'm a swot. My grades are good so therefore i am a swot. I live in the soft area of town and voila i am a swot.
There are many other factors as well but personality doesn't play a part.
The popular girls are either really really pretty, sporty, clever a tiny bit nasty but otherwise nice or are quite ugly wear waay too much make-up have serious attitude problems smoke, drink and do drugs regulary. They're the 'hard' kids. Cool because everyones too afraid to say otherwise.
My school is like 'chav' vs 'emo'. The number of ambulances we've had up here is ridicolous. The police watch the bus bay after school. The fights per day average 5 in school hours and on school property.
The adults of the community are quick to stereotype all teenagers as yobs. We've had letters from the residents around the school complaining. We've had a letter from the police threatening to give us a whole school ASBO. I so want to know how that works but there's no way i'm having one on my record. ASBO= anit-social behaviour order. Honestly i being the nice little yob that i am smile at people as i pass them, the number that have thrown me dirty looks and clutched their belongings tighter is amazing. Live in the rough part of town and it's worse. Live there and automatically you are poor, on benefits, single parent, druggie, alcoholic, hard and oh you smoke. My best friend lives there and while he does only have one parent he is the sweetest kid ever.
