I like Nicole Kidman, but the reviews of this movie were awful. Has anyone seen it yet? What did you think?

I gave it a "C" and went yesterday to see it. I needed to waste a few hours, so I went. Usually, we see just about everything that comes out anyway. There are a few laughs and some good characters, but overall, I would recommend waiting till it comes out on video or cable.

Now, "Saved" was hysterical. A complete over the edge Christian satire. Really really funny.

haven't seen it yet, but here's the background story I heard. - John Cusack (who I love and apparently Nicole Kidman was really excited about working with) was supposed to be the husband. It was going to be intense and scary. When he dropped out due to a family problem and was replaced by Matthew Broderick (who I also love but can't picture in a scary movie), Nicole wanted to drop out too. They wouldn't let her. The movie went from scary to a comedy suddenly and Nicole Kidman was very vocal and unhappy. I don't know if she gave it her best or not - I wish the original remake version could have been put on hold.

Thats a shame. I saw the original and it was sort of campy, edgy/ goofy scary.

I'm not certain how the new one will stack up or not. But the original wasn't a high drama Oscar contender.

My DH and I saw this Fri. night and we were very disappointed. I was expecting something scarier and with more of an edge. This version seemed almost like a farce.

I liked it, but I went in with few expectations not having seen the original version or read the book. I knew it was a comedy going in.

I wouldn't say it was a "great" movie, but I enjoyed it well enough. I especially enjoyed Bette Midler's character, and there is also a gay couple, and one of those guys was a total scene-stealer.

I think as long as you don't have high expectations in terms of Oscar-award wining performances or expecting a scary movie, it's not that bad.

I liked it too. It had to be a comedy because the first one wasn't great enough to make a "remake". There were some great lines in there. One about robotic men in Connecticut would fit right in", or something to that effect. My DH thought it was "just okay".

I heard that it was JOAN Cusack who was supposed to be in it-in the Bette Midler role.

I loved the film. It was so campy, much better as a comedy than the original "horror" movie.::yes::

I want to see it, but after hearing about it, I think I'll just wait for it to come out on video!

Saw it Friday night. My advice, wait for it to be on cable. Dont even rent the movie. It was amusing at times and was not too long of a movie. We were disappointed. I love Christopher Walkin, Nicole Kidman and Bette Midler and Glenn Close but this movie was not very good. If you are looking for a scary movie, this is not it. As someone mentioned on this thread, if you are looking for an excuse to eat popcorn and waste 2 hours, go for it!

It was OKAY. I don't feel like I wasted money, but it wasn't fantastic. I was dissapointed.

I

you're right - both Cusacks were supposed to be in it. John as the husband and Joan as the bestfriend. I think their father died and that's why they dropped out - but I'm not 100 percent positive if that's the reason. :wave2:

People are going expecting it to be scary-the trailers and the
ads are all saying it's a comedy. It looks terrifically camp!
My book club is going together as we'd never take our husbands
to a movie of this type, they'd get restless. I love Bette Midler
and Christopher Walken so I'm excited. Christopher Walken has
done some really funny films lately, Holes comes to mind. He's
a great comedic psycho!

Wow, that's really interesting. I wonder if John would have made a better husband to Nicole than Matthew Broderick. Although the character was supposed to be subdued, I thought that MB came off as a boring drip. Completely flat. And I usually like him in most of his roles. ::yes::

My DD keeps asking me if I want to go with her, but after reading all the reviews, I think not!
DD and her friends went the other night...all 17 & 18 year olds....AND they loved it... guess that says it all.
