Any opinions on a Stearns and Fosters Mattresses?
We are looking at a Pillow top that is on sale for $1900 for King. This store does not have an exchange policy so a bit nervous about the purchase.

I love my sterns and foster mattress! I never slept better on anything else. I have a bit of scoliosis and I have always had some back pain but not since I bought the sterns and foster. I won't go with any other brand.

We just got one a few months ago. Best purchase ever! I love it :) My parents have one as well as my grandparents. They've had theirs for 10 years and it's held up very well.

I loved our S&F mattress, but it was a PITA to turn because it didn't have handles or straps. It wore out (spring poked through in one place) before the warranty expired, so we received a partial credit towards a new mattress.

We got a pillowtop 10 years ago. We hate it. I will never buy another S&F. It was wonderful for the first year or 2 or maybe 3. I don't remember. We loved it. Then, it developed 2 troughs were we lie. I mean deep holes. We turned it regularly. We are not overly large people. It just sank. Dh and I both think it is the most uncomfortable bed now. We can't wait to get another one. (btw - I realize that 10 years is the upper limit in mattress lifetime, but this went bad years ago.)

Wow! This mattress purchase is really stressing me out!! Some people absolutely hate it, some absolutely love it!! Every brand that we research has the same outcome. We want to upgrade to King size, that size seems to have big issues with troughs. What to do, what to do..

I HATE pillowtops you can't flip the mattress for even wear & tear as previous stated a few years into it and there are places in the mattress that feel like a valley or a ditch not very large ppl here either Never again

We bought a pillow top last year. Not S&F. But than I realized you can't flip it over. I turn it every few months but that's not the same as flipping it. It's comfortable but I won't buy another one for that reason.

We have a S&F queen size pillow top mattress, maybe about seven years old. Overall we have been satisfied with it, but it did develop troughs very early in its life. At first we were told that the indentations were just compression of the pillow top and that they would puff up again through the day, but that proved not to be true. Still, we find it comfortable enough and wouldn't rule out another S&F.

We bought a Queen size S&F about eight months ago. Overall it is quite comfortable for sleeping. It cannot be flipped though so we rotate regularly. We haven't noticed any troughs yet, and my DH is a bigger guy. The thing that I do not like is movement. When your partner turns over in their sleep the other person really feels it. It drives me crazy! We won't buy another one for this reason.

We just bought a Simmons beayty rest black, delivered last week. We were told that no mattress today is flipped. You can't flip them as there is nothing on the other side. Many say don't eve rotate. So far loving our new mattress. Looked at sterns and foster but found beauty rest more comfortable

Which beauty rest black did you go with? We tried a few in the stores. The pillowtop was one I liked best but we were worried it would sleep too hot.

We bought one about 3 years ago and we like it pretty well. I wouldn't go with a pillowtop, though...they all flatten out where you sleep so there will be permanent bumps in it which look weird when you make the bed. I would go with a plush top and add an additional topper if you want that extra fluffiness. The Stearns & Foster mattresses we looked at (the higher end models) were pretty comparable to the higher end Simmons Beautyrest mattresses in terms of construction, coil count, wrapped coils, etc. I don't think S&F actually rates very high though in Consumer Reports...but you really have to take everyone's opinion (including mine) with a grain of salt because mattresses are SO personal and individualized!

Our mattress has multiple handles on each side so it's super easy to rotate every 2 months (we are really good about doing that). Our mattress has the individually wrapped coils as well as foam around the edges which was important to me because for some reason I like to sleep on the edge of the bed. If there isn't any foam on the edge, when you sit on the edge you can feel the coils...so I don't have that problem. :)

As far as the mattress itself, it's high quality and we've had zero issues with it...no indentations, no coil noises, etc. I do think we should have picked one model softer. I thought I wanted a really firm mattress and I think I chose one that was just a tad too firm. That is totally my own fault though so other than that, it's been great!

Down the road we plan to buy a Tempurpedic I think (the highest end model) but that is waaaaay down the line.

We went the firm. I don't think the other is actually pillow top, they called it plush. I like that better but DH like the firm better. It took a couple of nights to get used to it as we came from a foam. But love it and the foam sleeps very hot and DH thought the plush would be hot too.

Ended up going with the Stearns and Foster Plush, Estate line. It felt the most comfortable in the store, here's hoping it stays that way! The owner of the store insists that he will personally come out to measure the indents if we have a problem within the warrantee period! Now I am just worried about it sleeping hot..
Hoping it works if no other reason than I do not like mattress shopping!
Thanks for all the advice!

We had a S&F. We rotated it regularly, but within the first year or so it developed what can only be called foxholes on both sides. When the bed was made up, you could see the huge troughs. We put up with it for another 3 to 4 years because we had spent so much money on it. When my back and hip pain reached the ridiculous point, we bought a Tempurpedic. We have had it over a year and it is the most comfortable bed in the history of beds.

Why didn't you have them replace it? It is warrented against troughing for 10 years

:) Don't know if I am adding anything here but decided I would post anyway. DH and I are using our second Englander mattress. The first was destroyed in a hurricane. It is an 18 inch memory foam matress with no springs (from what the guy said). He also explained that we would get troughing in our sleep zones, which we do have. DH and I are pooh sized and it is still a very comfy mattress. It is 7 years old and has held up well.

It is also important to note that DH and I have dueling CPAPs at night. I I believe they have given us a better nights sleep than any mattress.

My boss swears by the temperpedic but says it does sleep hot. His DW is always cold so doesn't mind it but he gets too warm but says it is very comfortable
