I want to hit Steakhouse 71 up to try the Stackburger.

I see it’s on the lounge menu as well - what’s the lounge like? I’ve haven’t been to the SH yet only when it was The Wave. Is the lounge just a bar area or is there actual seating??

I’m deciding whether I need an actual lunch reservation for the restaurant or if I’ll just be able to walk up and go into the lounge?

Will be party of 2.

Many thanks

The lounge area is essentially unchanged from the days as the Wave. It's a bar.

Following. I’m interested in hearing about how challenging (or not) it is to walk in for lounge seating as a party of one or two. Sorry to tack onto your post, but it seemed better than a separate post.

The restaurant is bright & a little loud, the bar/ lounge is separated from it by a glass wall. I don’t remember seeing tables there as we passed by, just the bar. I think the question is do you want to eat at a bar or not. And do you want a firm plan to eat there or do you want to be more flexible & just pop in when you can. Personally we don’t eat at bars, so we always go with an ADR in the restaurant. I think they still have mobile ordering. So you could always mobile order & take your food to one of the tables outside by the lake if you don’t want to eat at the bar (& the weather cooperates).

There is other seating besides the bar, but it's not exactly the best for eating. The last time we were there, we were seated at an area with a couch and some comfy chairs surrounding a coffee table. We all ordered the burger and got a good laugh at ourselves when trying to eat them without it ending up in our laps.

I didn’t even realize you could order there. I always thought it was just a waiting area, lol.

There are not proper dining tables. There's a large bar and then in the lounge are mini seating/conversation areas with basically coffee tables (photo linked from Disney Food Blog). Personally, I found it a bit awkward to eat something sorta messy like the burger in the seating area and would prefer a seat at the bar ... but if the lounge section was all that was available, I wouldn't hesitate. It can get busy, but I've never had an issue finding a solo seat at the bar. Note that it doesn't open until noon.

There are a few couches/chairs in the lounge. When we were there a few families ordered off the menu and they delivered it to them there. There's also bar seating. We had no issue getting a table at the lounge area, we ordered a couple drinks while we waited for our lunch table.

If you're going the lounge route, sit at the bar (assuming you're comfortable with that). Always have great service when I do that. Can get a bit loud and it's sometimes crowded (especially if there is a convention at the Contemporary) but usually had no problem finding a seat (although I'm usually a solo traveler).
