I haven't booked my flight for Memorial Day yet & I'm thinking of staying Friday night at either All-Stars or POR.

Has anyone else done this & how has it worked for you?

It is a very good idea. In January, we had an early Saturday flight planned and a night at AKL before our OKW ressie started on Sunday for 10 nights. If we had a ressie for Saturday at OKW, we would have missed it because our flight was 12 hours late!!!! We have since decided to always fly in the day before our DVC ressie.

We did exactly this last October, to save on points for Saturday night. We stayed on enight at the All-Stars (getting the $49 rate.) It was nice to save the points, but kind of a pain to move; we couldn't really settle in right away. And checking in at the All-Stars was a COMPLETELY different experince from at BWV or OKW! We waited forever, it seemed.

It really made us appreciate "being home" on Sunday when we checked in to OKW.

Would we do it again? Well, we bought more points, so we wouldn't have to even consider trying to "save points" again!:D

I don't know if I'd do it for one night, but often what we do is go for a 10 day trip, and we will arrive at WDW on a Thursday, so we stay Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights in a resort(usually a moderate, although last time we did AKL), and on Sunday move to the DVC property. That way you get 3 nights in a resort, so you do get a bit of the "flavor" of the regular resort. Also, if you wanted to do this and stay in a deluxe for your first 3 nights, 3 nights' charges usually don't break the bank like a week or 10 days in a deluxe can do!
