Staying offsite - where to start?

Hi everyone - I'm starting to plan a 2022 trip with 6 people. I've always stayed on site in deluxe resorts but the prices are pretty crazy and with a lot of the onsite perks disappearing - I'm not totally sure it makes sense.

Given that - I have no idea where to start in terms of offsite. Should I do an airbnb? or just a larger hotel? Any good articles / resources that recommend best arts that you could share.

Personal experiences are welcomed as well.

I think I will be travelling with age ranges from 1 yr old to 70 yr old - looking for multi-generational friendly resort / home etc.

TIA!

To help narrow ...
- Do you want a full kitchen?
- How many bedrooms do you need?
- Do you want resort level activities?
- Is pool area important? Slides?
- Do you want onsite dining?
- What is your nightly budget?
- Will you have cars or need shuttles?

I have stayed at Windsor Hills the last few trips to Orlando- good location and we can get a house with several bedrooms and bathrooms with a private pool. Since we take our daughters and their families, this worked out for us instead of booking 3 rooms at pop century which is what we had done before. We always drove to the parks anyway, so transportation wasn’t an issue. We were comfortable and saved thousands of dollars. There is a nice pool at the resort too.

@HopperFan list above is a great starting point to help decide what you want.

The car is a big thing for me if choosing off-site. If you have a car then going with a larger multi-generational group makes a private home/condo hold a lot of appeal. Some of the resort areas have great pools with kid areas that are as good or better than Disney resorts or even private pools at the condo/house if it's a larger rental. Having a kitchen and laundry were a big benefit to us but that's because we liked being able to have some meals at the house and I love coming home from a trip without having to do 10 loads of laundry right away. But everyone is different about that kind of thing.

If you like traditional hotel housekeeping then you may want to go with an off-site hotel/resort rather than VRBO/AirBNB type of thing.

Any kind of accommodation you want is there, you just find the right match.

1. Start with a budget.
2. Consider the things that will make or break your stay. For example, if no one wants to drive, your options will suffer.
3. The easy answer is Club Wyndham Bonnet Creek. Your party can fit in anything from a 2BR to a 4BR presidential unit. This report is next door to the Caribbean Beach resort, so surrounded by Disney property. It is close enough that members of your party could use Uber if you don't all want to drive. They have a shuttle, but it is rather limited. However, it is there. This timeshare resort is best booked from an owner or a broker.

Thanks. I don't think driving would be an issue - but it would be nice to have flexibility if some family wanted to head back early. How would you go about finding a broker re: Club Wyndham.

You can just book online through Wyndham. Like booking any other hotel.

Have a look at IPG Florida Vacation Homes

Lots of Homes to look at and find one you would like

If you choose to go the private home direction, consider booking directly through an owner and save hundreds by not paying the Air BnB and VRBO fees. Winsdor Hills has a private rental page and a facebook book direct group

Over the years, we have stayed at many places. We have settled on two offsite options.

If we want a house, we book one at Emerald Island, which is south and west of WDW down 192. Perhaps a 15-minute drive to get onto Disney property.

If we want to be really close, we book a 2 or 3-bedroom condo at Wyndham Bonnet Creek (WBC) using eBay. WBC is closer to Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios than many Disney hotels.

We are staying offsite for a November 4-11 stay, with our adult kids and SOs - so six adults. We chose a 3 bedroom cottage at Margaritaville so that each couple could have their own room and bathroom. On property pricing is out of control.

Does Margarittvaille have free shuttles to Disney?

How often?

We LOVE Bonnet Creek and have stayed several times. The units are roomy and the patios/balconies are nice. The pool area rivals any Disney resort(we've stayed at quite a few Disney deluxe)and with the exception of Beach Club their pool is a step above the rest. They do a great job of keeping the rooms in excellent condition. We've booked several times using VRBO and even Ebay and have never had an issue. There have been times that we've paid less than a thousand for a 2 bedroom for a week. With Disneys new prices Bonnet Creek is a bargain. I can't believe what they are asking for a value hotels, never!!! It sounds crazy but watching fireworks from your balcony you almost forget you not staying at a Disney hotel. The walk and swing by the lake is beautiful. Happy planning.

Another vote for Bonnet Creek. Stayed there a few weeks ago with a group of 7 people. Had a blast. Great room, great resort. We used Vacation Strategy to book our stay. Had great customer service from them. Especially the person who was in charge of our reservation.

I would also consider the Universal hotels, we feel we get more bang for our buck there. Example we are going down in Dec, for less than what we would have paid for Coronado Springs we are staying at Portofino. This is considered a deluxe resort. It is a 10-15 min drive to WDW. Some of the resorts have family suites, we love Cabana Bay and Endless summer resorts for the extra room. If you get an UOAP, the discounts are great for the hotels, restaurants & merch.
You also might want to consider the FW Wilderness homes, DS Doubletree Suites, Hyatt Grand Cypress, the Embassy Suites LBV S, Hilton/Waldorf BC or Homewood Suites on Palm Pkwy, If we really want onsite we book great deals through Marriott and the Swan and Dolphin.

I believe they do, but it's nothing like shuttles on property. We got a car. MV was under $400 a night for a three bedroom, a car was around $600
