Staying for three weeks at a reasonable price

We are not actually vacationing this time -- we've decided to move to Orlando for good! But, our new house isn't going to be ready when it is supposed to. So, we need a place to stay (2 or 3 bedrooms preferable) for about three weeks in December (4th through 22ndish). We usually stay on site and we just need to be nearby, but we don't know much about finding a place to stay. I looked at Expedia -- lots of choices but pricey, and also skyauction, where there aren't many places that are available for all three different weeks.

Any ideas for me? I looked at a couple places that specialize in vacation homes rather than condos, they look very nice but were even more expensive!

I would check out www.vrbo.com

A number of the developments listed have two and three bedroom condos, and you would be renting directly from the owner in each case. I know that many of them offer significant discounts for longer rentals, so that might be worth considering as an option.

Great ideas, I've started to look there too and I'm overwhelmed by the choices! I'd also appreciate any suggestions if you have 'em on resorts that may be farther away from Disney but that are nice (I'm thinking farther away might be cheaper just for that reason).

When my mom relocated there, we rented a 5 bedroom house in one of the neighborhoods in Orlando to stay in and make 'home base' since we were moving stuff, meeting deliverys, etc. Plus, we were moving a cat with her, and the owners of this particular home allowed the cat to stay there while she moved, which was very nice of them.

Worked out great! I'd recommend trying to find a vacation home to rent for 3 weeks. We only spent about $600 a week on that house, that had a pool washer dryer etc and slept 12.

If you're not careful, there won't be as much to choose from since you are close to Christmas. It is already the first week of November and some people have already planned for the holiday, and don't forget the snowbirds arrive in November. If you are worried about being ripped-off, try one of the reputable websites described in many threads here. One with a management company. Just do it quickly for the best selection.

MichellT - I'm down the road from you in Redmond and can understand your wanting to move to Orlando. It's been too grey and rainy up here in the Northwest lately and I wish I was headed to a sunny and warm place for longer than a week or two here and there.

I did move to Orlando once in the mid 80's for a short term job. I stayed with my kids in a hotel room living out of a cooler for 2 weeks. Not fun but it's what was available. I believe renting a condo or a townhome is a far better option.

MichelleT...what are you doing for work? You are living my DH's dream! After New England's sub-zero temps last winter, he has been begging to move to Orlando! Do you have school age kids? If so, did you do some kind of research on the school systems in the various towns? Any info would be most appreciated! Best wishes for a smooth move!
