We check in next Thursday (the 7th) for a week

I am trying really hard to stay on my diet and fitness regime while at the fort. I like jogging the best, does anyone know distances of X to Y at the fort? I want to make sure that I am getting in about 4-6 miles and I have no idea how to judge this. What about that path to WL, where is it and how far is it??

Are there any healthy places to eat at WDW? :woohoo:

Thanks and I will try to do a live trip report while I am there :)

Let me dig out my FW map and see what I can find. I want to say they have the fitness trail marked with the mileage.

All of have to say is "You go girl". I am trying to lose weight, but for the life of me can't figure out why any person in their right mind would run that far w/o the boogie man chasing them. :rotfl2:

IIRC the WL trail is just shy of a mile. To get 5 - 6 in you may have to run that plus around every loop in the complex (including cabin loops).

As none of the main roads around the fort have sidewalks, I'd just take a slow drive around the campground to mark mileage. If you are like me you need to see new sights, not run the same track a few times, so covering 2 miles on the trail, you need to make up the other four around the campground. I know it's over a mile from the reception outpost to the marina, so there is a couple of more......

OK, curiosity got the better of me, so I called FW front dest. She put me on hold and found out that the loop to the lodge and back is 2.5 miles. So, make 2 loops and then the half mile to C will put you at 5.5 miles.

Won't catch me there though. DH will be glad to know that. Since he has been in Iraq he has lost 30lbs and runs about 6 miles per day (and that is not dodging bullets, so I can't figure out why he does it). Now he will know where he can run. If I were to try it, I would like to know what the response time of the EMTs would be.

Good for you though. I am now off of steroids and have lost 5 of the 10lbs they caused me to gain. I am hoping to lose 30 more. Unfortunately the pain is back so it is hard. I am doing pilates though to at least help somewhat.

I could always have dh push me in my wheelchair while he runs. He may only make the one loop around though.

When I go to Disney in November, I'm going to bring my handheld GPS unit. I'd like to see how much I actually walk in a day, especially the day I go to Epcot. We're staying at the fort, so I'll get to walk around and see what the distances are.

With all the walking around the parks, it doesn't seem like you'd have to worry too much about keeping a big jogging routine going.

If you have an IPOD Nano, have you thought about getting a Nike+ system. I've found it really useful for running. I can plug in the distance/time that I'd like to run & a little voice tells me the distance or time I've travelled at intervals through my music. it has been invaluable to me. The cost was only about $40 (Canadian) but of course it amounts to more if you need to add the Nano.

OK, my map only showed where it was.

Here is a map http://home.hiwaay.net/~jlspence/fwrecmap.jpg that shows distances a little bit. From A to B is one mile and from B to C is 1/2 mile. Not too much help if you want to go around the loop from B to A to B again. I will see what else I can find.

Better copy of same map. http://www.disneycampers.com/Fort_Wilderness/Rec_Map.htm

Thank you so much! The map is a little hard to figure out but I will stare at it some more, can you get those maps at check in? Well I can't jog the entire time, I do a walk/jog. I am trying to work up so I can do the Disney 5k Princess something.

Ok, thank you! Jogging around the loops might get boring :)

Thank you so much, looks like I will be running the path to WL then :) I hope you feel better, I LOVE pilates!!!

i want to get one of those pedometers things because I am always curious about how far I walk in a day. I don't think we will be doing the parks that often, too expensive and we enjoy the fort and people watching :)

Wow, that sounds awesome! I have a regular iPod though :( I wonder if they make something like that for me because i would be highly interested!!

Lucy,

My local running club up here in Birmingham has a tool to measure running distances on a map. You can zoom in/out and move it to determine your distances. Hit the "start recording" button, then double click a location to start, then move/double click each leg of your run and the info at the right will be updated.
Nice little tool!

On the review, it still starts in Birmingham so just zoom out and move the starting point down to Orlando and the Fort...

I was just about to direct you to the gmap-pedometer website, but Bama-Ed beat me to it. If you type 32830 into the "Jump to" box, it will take you directly to WDW and then you can zoom in on FW.
I highly recommend "looping" around while running - I did it in May and had a ball checking out everyone's campsites. Granted, the cabin loops pretty much all look alike, but the campsites are fun to explore. You can run wherever you want and then go back to this website and track where you ran to figure out how far you went.

Have a great trip!

Leslie

Thank you so much, very helpful!

Is a 16 oz beer a pound or did we just call them pounders in college? I don't know, but I figure I can stay in shape doing 16oz curls at the Fort.
