We are going "home" to the BCV's for the first time and want to ride the monorail during some point on the trip. We will be celebrating our DS's 3rd birthday while we are there and are planning to visit Chef Mickey's. I know the monorail runs through the Contemporary. What would be the logistics for that trip - BCV to Contemporary with monorail for part of the ride?

Also, we certainly plan to visit the Magic Kingdom while we are there. Maybe we should ride the monorail from Chef Mickey's to the Magic Kingdom, or do you walk from there? I am just not familiar enough with the Walt Disney World complex to know the best plan. I figure some of you experts out there can answer this for me much easier than me trying to map it out on my own.

Thanks so much for your help with this. I just love making a good plan!

There is no transportation between BC and CR.

Take a bus from BCV to MK. You can then either walk or take the monorail to CR. After your meal, take the monorail to the MK. You will go past the TTC, Poly, and GF.

If you have park hopping abilities, you could always walk through Epcot and grab the monorail to TTC. THen switch over to the Resort monorail and take that to the CR. Then you can walk over to MK after dinner. It would take you maybe 15-20 minutes to walk to the entrance of Epcot but we love to do it. It's nice to just soak up the atmosphere. Or you could take the boat to MGM and change over to a bus to CR there. Or...you could take a bus from MGM to the Polynesian and take the monorail to the CR from there. That's a nice ride. ANd then walk over to MK..about an 8 minute walk from CR to MK!!

at some point make sure you ask the monorail attenedant if you guys can ride up front, my kids ask to do it every trip. it is something they really enjoy.

This only works if your ticket allows you to park hop (meaning I wouldn't waste an Epcot admission just to have access to the monorail).

I prefer the bus to MK then walk or monorail to CR.

I can't really tell from your post whether or not you are renting a car or not. It sounds as though you're not. We had a car, so here's what we did, although this probably won't work if you're planning a full day at MK in conjunction with your Chef Mickey's PS.

We had an early dinner PS at Chef Mickey's, so we drove over to the CR and valet parked the car. Normally you can only leave your car at another resort for approximately 3 hours. We figured if we were going to be paying for valet, that we could take the chance that the van would be ok for longer than that. We had plans after dinner to go back to MK for Wishes and Spectromagic. We finished dinner around 6:30 and caught the monorail over to MK. Stayed for both Wishes and Spectro and then caught the monorail back to the CR. No one really said anything to us about leaving the van for that long as it was about 11:00 P.M. before we arrived back at CR.

If you can swing the car rental I'd do it. The transportation system is nice in a pinch, but I'm not one to deal with someone else's schedule if I don't have to. It's nice to be able to get back to the car and have a 15-20 minute ride home rather than a 30-40 minute ride.

Indeed, this is a GREAT thing to do. I recommend riding up front going from TTC to Epcot. It's the longest, and most enjoyable front cab ride since you get to go through Epcot. The Resort monorail is the hardest to get up front. This is why I recommend the Epcot train. You don't have to be going to Epcot... when you get there, you can just hop in the back, and take the trip back to the TTC, and then to MK. (Round trips aren't allowed, so that other guests may have the opportunity)

If the front cab has already been taken, always ask if you can wait for the next available train. Most people don't want to wait, but since trains come quickly, it's the shortest line you'll be in all week. And well worth it, too.

Wow! Thanks everyone for all the ideas and suggestions. To answer one of your questions, we will have our car with us. And to add a follow-up question of my own...

What is the earliest you can access the Monorail from Epcot?

I am assuming you can't ride the Monorail from there until the park officially opens. When we'll be there, that is around 9:00 AM, which is later than I'd hoped to make it to Chef Mickey's. Thanks so much.

It looks like you'll be having breakfast at CM's. For whatever reason I thought dinner! So, no..walking through Epcot is certainly not going to work for you. I would take the MK bus from BCV. It should be running in plenty of time to get you to breakfast. You can walk over to CM from MK as I said before. Then, after breakfast, or MK if you end up going there after breakfast, you can take them monorail back to TTC and change over to the Epcot line but only if you have park hopping on your pass, as I said before. That's one reason I like the hopping ability..I can just spend 20 minutes passing thru a park if I need to.
If you don't have hopping ability, I would just hop on the monorail and do the resort loop around the lake. That should take about 1/2 hr. and is fun.

I totally agree with the first answer you got from Ed. And while we've been avoiding the buses to the MK from BCV, all reports of late are that there are dedicated Y&Bc buses now which should be a great improvement.

To answer one of your questions, I believe that the monorail starts running at 7:00am every day.
