Staying at AKL.....

We have decided to stay at AKL. What are the good rooms there...really want to get a good view of the animals from the room/balcony. Probably won't go with concierge. Would like to stay at the arusha savannah...do I need concierge to stay at that savannah? Anything else I should know? This is not only my first stay at AKL, but first time to Disney.

Welcome to the DISboards Jodi.

You do not need to be in concierge to have a view of Arusha savannah. If that's what you want just request it. There are tons of rooms on that savannah so you shouldn't have a problem. I requested Zebra Trail but didn't mention a savannah and was on Zebra Trail, Uzima savannah which I loved. Anyway at the top of this board there is a thread called resort FAQs. Open it and you'll find one with lots of info on AKL. Have a great trip.

WELCOME!!!! Here is a map of AKL with the detailed room numbers. We found that Arusha Rock savannah was wonderful. Although we had Zebra Trail, the Kudu trail seemed to have an equal amount of animals.... I really don't think you can go wrong

We stayed concierge last fall and were right on the lobby hallway, it was great having that view of the lobby right outside my door. We were on the lowly, much maligned, Sunset Savanah. People talk about no zebras, we saw zebras, a view over roof tops, I did see that, but it was no hinderence at all, a six year old could have clocked a giraffe in the head with his pull toy, they were so close. Good thing I didn't know that it was the least desirable savanah because we thought it was great.

I don't know what savanah is on the other side of the balcony, but if there is a savanah there, I would request a room along that balcony on either side on any floor.

We are definitely going to stay there again and that is where I will request, concierge or not.

Hi Jodi,

Assuming you booked a savanna view room I would reconmend that you request a view of the Arusha Savanna. If you have a savanna view room booked you can end up with a view of any one of the three savannas. Sunset, Uzima and Arusha. I would put in a request for the Arusha Savanna and just keep in mind that a request is just that and you might end up with a view of one of the other savannas.

We loved our stay at AKL! What a great Disney hotel experience for a first timer. I hope you have an awesome trip. I would recommend Arusha savannah on Zebra Trail. Zebra trail is close to the pool, restaurants, Kid's Club, and laundry so I think its a big bonus to be located here. Enjoy!!

We stayed at a concierge room and enjoyed it. The big advantage is that you can do the Sunrise Safari which is the best or one of the best tours at WDW. I would encourage you to try this. The food at the concierge lounge is nice and the South African wines are good.
