We have always stayed value and occasionally moderates. We are too cheap to spend too much when we are going to be at the parks all day. However, we are having 3 "no park" days prior to the start of our package next month. The plan was to rent a car and visit the coast for a day, swim for 2 days at the hotel. However, DH and I have decided we just do not want to do any driving on vacation, so making it a resort only vacay.

And so yesterday, while perusing the AAA site, I noticed a good deal on the rooms at AKL...and the cost is essentially the same as it was for us at Pop + the beach. So I switched to AKL for those 3 days. We have NEVER stayed deluxe and AKL has been one of our bucket list items. We are STOKED!!!!!!

So, anyway, my question. Our plan is early rise to grab some breakfast and then swim a good chunk of the day away. Can anyone give me details on fun things they do at AKL - I know there is story telling, correct? My boys are 5 and 8 and I know they are going to FREAK that we are staying there!

So, can you all tell me what resort specific activities you and your kids have experienced/enjoyed?

SO SO SO excited!

AKL is my favorite resort! You are going to have a great time. Since there is so much to do, I couldn't possibly type it all up in a post. So instead I will direct you to this site:

Which does an excellent job of detailing the activities available.

Hello, Neighbor (we're from WI!)

We loved AKL, and you'll have a blast. The previous poster referred you to another site, which is great. The pool area is wonderful and relaxing, so that's a must-do.

There are a couple different safari options there. I think there's an evening safari with wine dinner at Jiko. It's spendy, tho. Yes, there's story telling, and just visiting with the guides, especially in the evenings was great. They helped us understand a lot of the animal behavior we were witnessing.

Will you have a savannah view? Enjoying a glass of wine or breakfast while viewing the animals is relaxing. There's also a nice bar that serves apps by Boma. So, that's a few tidbits for you.

I love AKL. If you'll be there on a Wed they have wine tasting at JIKO. It was by far the best "extra" I've done. I wrote a review of it on the Dining Review page awhile back.
I agree with the PP - grab a glass of wine and walk around the resort. There are people ready to tell you anything about the animals or the African culture - it's amazing.
