I will be at WDW during the Columbus Day holiday.

Is it a good idea to tour a park on that day or just stay out of the parks all together?

Any suggestions?

:)

My family and I will be there as well during the week of Columbus day and we feel that the 4 main parks (MK, EPCOT,MGM,& AK) will probably be too crowded . For this reason we will use this day to either relax by the hotel pool during the day and go to Pleasure Island at night , or we'll go to Blizzard Beach during the day and Pleasure Island at night . Another option would be to explore the Downtown Disney/West-end area and possibly do Disneyquest or Cirque...La Nouba (if it has a show that day).

Good luck and have a great trip !

Columbus day isn't a holiday for everyone. I asked about it here awhile back. The replies I got indicated that some FL counties have it as a school holiday and others don't. So I don't think there would be a big difference in crowd size. But who knows?!? :D

I've been there the past 2 yrs on the week prior to CD. The first yr, we went to MK on the Sun. before CD. It was VERY crowded. We ended up leaving. It was just too much. Last year, we planned our trip with that in mind. We just flew out the day before CD and avoided it all together.

This year, unfortunately, fall break is during CD week instead of the week before, so we're forced (using the term loosely, mind you) into being there on that day. We will definately avoid MK. IMHO, Epcot or AK might be the least crowded of the 4.

Ok sounds like we will be staying out of the parks on Columbus Day then.

Maybe we'll do some shopping or have a down day by the pool. I'm sure all the tourist things will be swamped on the holiday.

Thanks for the advice :)

We have PS for CRT and no way are we missing that.
:D
We may hit it early and then go somewhere else. I also thought there was media event for Philarmagic that day as well.

We'll probably do DTD that day (maybe a very short time in MK so DD1 can get her first look at the castle, her first pair of Mickey ears, and Pal Mickey) Sat we have ressies at Chef Mickeys for dinner, so we'll go to MK after for fireworks, Sunday is EE at MK and CRT ressies, and that Mon we will do RFC and AK. We'll also have the following week, so we won't go nuts if we have to take it extremely slow. We will be doing MNSSHP on that Tues as well, so we'll use that time for multiple HM rides and other tame stuff! Maybe Sunday would be a good day for the campfire...

I have been there for several years now during CD weekend and the crowds aren't always bad. I would say MK is the busiest park on the Sunday before the holiday.

We'll be arriving on Mon, Oct 13 (plane lands at 9:30 AM). We planned it as a relaxing day - we'll do some shopping at Downtown Disney; DD still hasn't decided what she's going to be for MNSSHP, so we may let her pick out something there! We're having dinner at 'Ohanas. We may go visit the petting zoo before dinner - just depends on how much time we have.

On Tues, DD is doing the Grand Adventures in Cooking, and we'll probably do some swimming (weather permitting!) and we have a PS for LTT and the MNSSHP!!!

We only have plans to do one park each day so we can take our time. We're hoping for some great weather that week!!!!

Does anyone know if the rest of Orlando is busy on the holiday? LOL

I'm wondering if the other parks ie: SeaWorld, IOA/US etc will be busy on that day as well.

What about the shopping malls/outlets?

Looks like we'll be lazy around the pool if that's the case.

:)

I checked the Orange County Schools website and they are not out for Columbus day. However they are out Thursday and Friday 10-16/10-17 for their fall break.
