Stay Hydrated!! Super hot temperatures this summer

We're going mid-July. Scarier than MNSSHP. The only week everyone could get off. Thinking about aiming less time at the parks. Focusing on late afternoons & evenings. Just wish parks were open later.

This is actually one of my biggest concerns with my September trip (that and hurricanes). I go from fine to very much NOT fine quickly. I also seem to have a blind spot when it comes to drinking liquids. If it is not in front of me I flat out forget. Heck, I often forget WITH it in front of me.

I think I may have to set an alarm or something.

It may be better to drink something like a sports drink (Powerade in the Disney parks?) in that case.

I thought about that or getting the Gatorade powder packs... but that would be another think for my suitcase and I am flying which makes that harder.

grocery delivery is what we do when we're trying to save space. Although, packets of gatorade or liquid IV are quite negligible if you don't want to do grocery delivery.

We’re going July 7-12 and you should see the stuff I’m bringing! Neck fans, UV umbrellas, cooling towels, Liquid IV & Pedialyte packets, a collapsible water bottle for each person, etc., etc., etc. My husband jokes that it looks like we’re planning a trek across the Sahara rather than a trip to the most magical place on earth, but my mom passed out from dehydration on a trip to Disneyland a few years ago in 75 degree weather and it terrified me! I’m taking no chances!

I went to the store yesterday and saw the size of the boxes... they are small. I don't know why I thought they would be huge or something! However, they only had the 0 sugar and I can't have artificial sweeteners so will need to order the regular ones from Amazon.

I will also be bringing a small fan and cooling towels to try and help.

I hate the zero sugar stuff (even though I'm diabetic...if I'm sweating that much, I need the sugar too). I found that Nuun tablets are pretty good electrolyte replacer and they're very easy to pack. I think I found liquid IV on sale at Costco before we left for our trip. I still have some from that trip that will be making it back to WDW in Aug! 😁 I'm going to get a UV umbrella this year (trying to figure out how to attach. one to my mom's scooter). The cooling towels worked great as did the little fan!

Yes, you need to figure something out before you arrive and have the discipline to stick to it. Practice at home first and accept right now there will be more bathroom stops than you are used to. Last Sept my eat to the beat concert was delayed because someone passed out. They'd gotten seated and everything but it was just too late and they got hauled off by paramedics on a stretcher. It happens often in that level of heat :(

Hi! I stumbled on this thread and saw that you are looking for a uv umbrella for a scooter. I saw this on Amazon if it helps.

I'm a big fan of electrolytes. Often in this kind of heat, water alone just doesn't cut it. I agree with everyone suggesting fans, cooling towels. And for crying out loud, slow down. Take air conditioned breaks. I know it costs a lot of money and you want to do it all, but just stop. Slow down. I was just there a few days ago and witnessed some parents getting upset (cranky because they were hot and tired) because their young teens said they felt sick and wanted to sit, and the parents accused them of being dramatic and kept pushing. A cast member suggested some air conditioned places where they could sit down and take a break, watch a show, and the parents wanted none of that. There are paramedics being called throughout the parks all day every day because of heat related illnesses.

I will be using a Brita self-filtering water bottle for the first time this month. Am I correct that the water-refill stations in the parks provide not-so-cold water? The free ice provided at counter-service restaurants sounds helpful, but also time consuming. I was thinking about just filling the Brita with ice before catching the bus to the park and just drinking the ice melt until I have to refill.

I freeze 8 water bottles and take them to the park for the 4 of us. Between a couple bottles of Gatorade and those bottles we did okay last year.

We have a stroller, so it makes it easy to carry all the bottles

We visited in early May. The weather was warm-ish, but pleasant, when we arrived and became progressively warmer and more humid that week. I obviously was not drinking enough water (although I thought I was) and did not feel well. Fortunately, I realized what was happening and took action.

Electrolytes (we use Nuun and Gatorade tablets), cooling towels, and small fans do a great job, but personal responsibility is so important. Please watch out for others in your group and ask them to do the same. Heat-related illnesses are no joke. We’re going back in September - not my idea, I suggested February! :rolleyes1 - and I’ve got the essentials packed already.

This. I once saw a talk given by Jack Hannah (of Jack Hannah's Animal Adventures). He told a story of being on safari one time in Africa and getting dangerously sick. He couldn't figure out why because he had been drinking water non-stop in order to keep himself hydrated in the heat. The fact that it was only water that he was drinking was why he ended up so sick. His body had sweated out everything already and it wasn't being replaced. The medic told him next time to drink Gatorade.

Water is great, but I recommend also including something that will replace all the other "stuff" being sweated out.

At the larger counter service places you can bypass the line and just go up to the counter where you pick up your order and request the cup of ice water. Most of them will have a tray of already filled cups. You can use these cups to fill your own water bottle.
