We've stayed at Vero twice and love the resort. We are trying to determine if we want to stay at Vero again next summer or try Hilton Head. We LOVE the beach/outdoors and have 2 pre-teen kids. How do the beaches compare?

How about activities?

The only time we stayed at Vero was a few years ago and there really WASN'T much beach! Especially at high tide. I assume they have replenished it but, considering the recent hurricanes, I can't imagine that it has improved. Hilton Head, on the other hand, has a very wide and beautiful beach and I would much rather be there (plus, HH is drivable for us so that is admittedly a big factor in my choice). Basically, because we can be at NC/SC beaches in 2-4 hours drive time, I just can't get excited about going all the way to Vero for the beach UNLESS it is the dead of winter here and I just have to have sunshine and warm temps! Having said that, we were at HH year before last over New Years and it ws 70 and sunny!

The beach at Vero is actually much bigger since the hurricanes.

Maybe someone has a recent picture.

Anyone got any pictures of the beach after the hurricanes. I've heard the beach is bigger than it was?

Hi, we got home 2 weeks ago from VB. Unfortunately I don't have any pix of the beach but DS was told that they brought in over 500 truckloads of sand after the hurricanes. Plenty of room to sit even at high tide. The waves are quite large even at low tide. Major drawback for me was the lack of lifeguards on the beach.

We love Vero, but HH has many advantages. There are bike trails all over the island and the sand is hard enough you can ride yor bike along the beach, which is wonderful. There's a small waterpark, several putt putt courses, lots of dining, it's different that Vero. Heck, give it a try.

hilton head resort is not on the beach. they do have a shuttle to the beach club.

For me a big turn off of HH is that it is not directly on the beach.. Nor is there a bar or sit down resturant at the resort.
Sometimes we dont want to have to leave property to find a place to eat,

We took our first trip to VB in April...and the beach was gorgeous! The resort is relatively small in size...and it's so nice to walk from the pool area (which is lovely) right out to the beach. VB is farther away for us too (HH is about 4.5 hours...Vero is more like 9).

Consider season as well...Vero is hot hot hot in the summer. Hilton Head is peak season in the summer (IIRC).

(sitting in HOTlanta as we speak...wishing for a DVC in Canada somewhere...)
