Statue of Limitations for collecting debt?

I have to agree with the majority on this. I have been in a situation where I got really sick and was out of work for 6 months. I tried to pay what I could but was basically told if I could not send the full payment then not to send anything and was harassed 10 or more times daily by them. I still have companies calling me-new companies-and this happened in 1995! Good luck and ignore the negatives, things happen that are beyond our control sometimes. :grouphug:

Would any grown adult, say in their 30's, be given a card if they didn't have a job?

Yes, an adult in their 30's would be offered credit cards evenif they do not have a job. I am in my mid 30's, have not worked for years, but receive credit card offers daily. Even when DH was out of work for a while he still received credit card offers..

I have mixed feelings about the whole college student CC issue. I think it is wrong for the CC companies to grant credit to someone with no job and no income. However, it is also wrong for someone with no job and no income to apply for a CC in the first place. I find it hard to believe that there are that many 18 year olds in America today who don't have at least a basic understanding of how a CC works: you charge a purchase and get a bill at the end of the month that you have to pay. If you have no money, then you've got no business charging the purchase. Period! Ultimately, it is not the CC company's fault if you buy things that you can't afford. I got my first CC in college. But I paid my bill in full every month. I never paid a penny in interest because I only used the card to buy things I was going to be buying anyway and already had the money for. I didn't look at it as free money. I just can't comprehend why this is such a big problem today.

I agree 100%. Being in college is no excuse for not paying your CC bill. It's all about personal responsibility, and at 18, 19, 20 years old you should be responsible and understand what CCs are and the terms that they offer. I think we use the "we were young and didn't understand" defense way too much in our society.
