Statue of Liberty crown-NO WAY!

I remember the walk up when I was there on a class trip in 5th grade. Good times!

I was in the crown before 9/11 - there are windows. I think that picture is an artist's drawing.

When I was walking up those stairs all I kept telling myself was "If Nancy Reagan can do this I can!" :lmao:

I remember being up there for the first time in Kindergarten... some 23 years ago :thumbsup2 I thought there were windows too but then again its been awhile

I would love to go all the way up to the crown someday. :thumbsup2

I do not believe that is an artist's drawing. I found another copy of that photo:

Even if there were windows in the crown back then, I'm sure that they would be sealed up now.
What with security and law suits, the windows would never be left open to the public now a days.

Just my 2 cents worth :cool1:

Karen :)

Much better picture, thanks. I saw other pictures with people hanging out too. I hope they are welded shut now. Thats just crazy!:scared1:

When the Today Show was up there a few weeks ago, they were hanging out and touching the outside of Lady Liberty.

I could never go up there. Not because of the stairs, but the heights. I almost had a panic attack in the St. Loius arch.

Me too! I don't think I'd want to make that walk up there now. They'd probably have to call the paramedics for me before I got halfway up!:faint:

OK. My family and I are exactly the opposite. We can't wait to go all the way up to the crown and already have our reservations! It is already sold out until November. I think it'll be a once in a lifetime things for all of us to be able to say that we've done :thumbsup2

Does anybody know how many steps there are? I though I heard between 300 and 400 to the crown.

Afraid of heights and claustrophobia.. No way I could do that!

Me too! :scared: I went on a Brownie trip when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade, but there were a group of us who didn't make it to the top. Heck...I was already nauseous from the ferry ride. :scared: (It's so hard being a weenie!)

I have been up in that crown twice, and it an awesome thing to see and experience. Never been in the arm and torch, it was closed when I was a kid as it was considered dangerous, not sure if they have fixed it so people can go up in it again or not

I did it in high school, in June when it was 90 degrees:scared:. I'd never make it up those circular steps today.

My brother did it in the days before 9/11. He told me I'd never make it. I'm queasy with heights, but positively loath spiral staircases.,
