Hi Everyone, Now that our cruise is only 21/2 months away, my Dh is starting to ask me a bunch of questions. So I told him that I would ask the experts. He wants to know if a camcorder could possibly fit in the stateroom safe? Would a laptop fit as well?

I believe a small camcorder would fit but there is not room for a laptop in the safe.

The PassPorter lists the safe as "roughly shoebox-sized" and list the dimensions as 9" d x 6.5" h x 14" w or 22.9cm x 16.5 cm x 35.6 cm.

HTH!

Yes to the camcorder (assuming it isn't one of the old big clunky ones) and no to the laptop. We've taken our laptop and put it away in a drawer with no problems.

camcorder -- definite maybe

laptop -- definite not

quite frankly, we left our laptop out on the desk the entire cruise. I really wasn't worried about theft. I figured the stateroom host had a lot more to lose than gain by taking the laptop. Especially since I would I have noticed it was missing right a way, and would have reported it missing well before we returned to port

Like others have said a "small" one should fit. But NOT a lap top. We've done two cruises and have left our digi cameras, Laptop, mini DVD players and camcorder out on the desk and never had ANYTHING happen to it. The only one with acess to your room...is your room steward....no one else. So you know if anything dose happen to anything where to point the finger.

Now I'm almost sure some way or another someone else on the ship has a master key to get in/out of your stateroom....but from what I understand no one except your room steward will be entering your room without prior notice.

In other words we felt totally comfortable leaving our electronics out.

I agree, we have always left things out without a problem. I know this may not be what your DH wants to hear though. You can always place it in your trunk or in the closet in your luggage if you worry about it being visable. Just know that most people on the ship have the same items and it does not appear to have ever been a problem. We did keep our passports, ID and our money in the safe, but this was all. Remember, the person whom locks the safe, has to open the safe or at least the ID does. I would not worry as if you were in a hotel. I feel safer on DCL with my items than in WDW.:hippie: If it helps, tell your DH, thats what you have insurance for, (even though you will not need it). Have fun and I wish it were me going........:)

Perhaps it would make your husband a little more comfortable if he puts a laptop lock on the machine. I always take one with me and attach it to a permanent fixture in a room. At least that would eliminate an easy walk-off. It's certainly not going to eliminate the risk as someone can break the fixture (it really depends on what you attach it to), but it does help. PC Guardian makes really good ones that either require a key or a combination lock.

Off topic, I know, but here's a tip someone else gave me is to NOT use a KTTW card with your safe. Instead, bring another magnetic strip card, like your library card, and hide it in the room. Then anyone in your family can open the safe without being constrained with waiting for the KTTW cardholder to get back to the room. :)

Great Idea Kim-
I know you can use any magnetic strip to open and close it. We were thinking of how to do this. I just know because we once had to us a driver's licenses to open up my nanny's when she locked herself out. We did not want to leave a driver's license or credit card out, but I never thought of library card. Something simple and yet not a big deal to leave out (hide away of course). Thanks. :thanks: :disrocks:

Hey...I just read another unrelated post, and they used a grocery store card, which is another fantastic idea...which of course has opened the floodgates of ideas of other "customer loyalty" cards like office supply stores, stationary stores, etc. Not sure why that light bulb didn't go off for me before, but there ya have it! Certainly many options that should fit everyone's wallet!
