I believe I've read that there is an automatic 15 % tip on room service (which is free ?) I've heard people have tipped cash and then were tipped on top of the cash tip.

The second is the bar tips. How do you ensure you are tipping for their service BUT not double tipping or over tipping unless by choice ?

Thanks !

Room service does not include an auto-gratuity. It is customary to tip even though most room service items are free of charge. Bring a handful of singles.

The bars will include an automatic 15% gratuity, as will an alcoholic drink ordered in the MDRs or on deck. You may tip additional cash as well if you choose.

Enjoy your cruise!

We usually tip $3-$4 bucks per delivery depending on the amount of food. If it happened to be a very large order we would tip some more. If it was just a Mickey Bar I would tip less.

I keep a stack of singles in the nigh table drawer just for room service tipping.

I thought that if you bought the things from room service that had a charge, like soda, etc., it might have an auto-tip, but I don't know first hand. Maybe someone else can answer that.

All the bar drinks will have the auto-tip and it will be clearly marked, so you nca go over that or not, as you choose.

Yes, any beverages that have cost from room service (soda, alcohol, bottled water) will incur the 15% autotip.

Just curious now--in the MDR when there is the tip added for alcohol--WHO gets that tip? The servers, or a bartender whom you never even saw???

All beverage purchases have a 15% gratuity added. That auto gratuity is pooled to be shared by all beverage servers/bartenders onboard. Your dining room assistant server is a "beverage server", so he/she will share in that pool.

Any extra tip you do (cash, or added to the charge slip) will go only to the person you direct it for (usually the server).

I'm interested in the answer to this as well. I have assumed that the auto-gratuity on beverages ordered in the MDRs went to the bartender, so I've always added a generous extra cash tip to the envelope we give to the assistant server with the pre-paid gratuity card at the end of the cruise. We usually add extra for the server and assistant server as well, but I'm particularly concerned about the assistant server because he/she manages my bottles of wine as we move between dining rooms. It usually takes me two nights to empty a bottle since DW doesn't drink and half a bottle is about my preferred quantity with dinner. If you purchase a wine package, the auto-gratuity is added to the charge slip on the initial purchase. Then you sign another charge slip (for $0) as you request each additional bottle. I'm reluctant to add additional gratuity to this slip if the assistant server doesn't benefit. The bartender doesn't even open the bottle, so the initial gratuity would seem sufficient if that's where it's going.

Bar tabs have auto gratuity, room service does not. We tip between $2 and $5, depending on how many plates we ordered. We keep singles and fives in the safe just for that purpose.

As far as the bars, if we find a bartender we really like who makes great drinks, we always give them extra cash tips at the end of the cruise as a thank you. Your auto gratuities only go to the stateroom host and your serving staff.

Interesting arrangement to say the least!

But when I add an extra gratuity at the end of my MDR meal, there is really no place on the charge slip for me to say who it goes to. Or at least I don't recall a space on the slip where I can do that.

So I must assume that if I add an extra gratuity w/o naming names, it goes to the assistant server??

If it's the charge slip for the beverages, I'd say yes.

If you want to give the asst. server and server extra tips, I'd do it in their final envelopes -- that way you know they are getting it personally.

Can you still get milk, coffee, tea and juice for free from room service?

The only items you'd have to pay for are those listed with prices -- like sodas, snacks, etc. They have breakfast and lunch/dinner menus with plenty of choices and all are free unless otherwise noted.

Awesome, thanks. I know they don't "list" any beverages on the actual room service menu, except those you have to pay for, so it is a little challenging to know what is available for free. :(

Sorry, this is off topic a little, but do you now have to pay for soda on the deck? On our last cruise in 2015, it was free.

There is a soda machine on the pool deck. No cost for those sodas. If you order a soda from a roving server (on the pool deck, or in a bar/lounge) it will have a cost. Sodas are also included in the cruise fare at meals.

Thanks! I wasn't sure after the change with the alcohol. At least I can my soda in the morning since I do not drink coffee!

If it's the charge slip for the beverages, I'd say yes.

Well--if that is so, I may have to rethink how much extra I tip the Assistant Server in the final envelope. Over the course of 5-6 meals that is a few extra bucks ahead of the final tip.

Glad I saw this thread tho--I never really gave much thought as to who got that extra gratuity for alcohol!!!
