Stateroom question on the Magic

Sailing on the Magic next year for the first time. Spent several days researching what is a better stateroom option for our family of four. I read the stateroom thread on this site but still cannot decide which stateroom to go with. We are currently booked in a stateroom 6020 but due to cost are seriously considering stateroom 2010. Both are oceanview staterooms but stateroom 2010 is about $700 cheaper. However, we are concerned with that stateroom being so low and don't want to forgo enjoying our cruise at the expense of saving $700. Any advice much appreciated.

Deck 2 on the Magic is the only deck we've had rooms on. An Oceanview room is pretty much an Oceanview room, regardless of where on the ship it is.

Deck 2 is very convenient to dining rooms (1 or 2 decks up), WD Theater and catching elevators is much easier at the "end of the line" than the "middle of the run".

I LOVE Deck 2.

What are your concerns?

We are concerned about the ship's movement. Will it rock too much being so low and close to the front? I also read some posts about the thrusters/anchor being noisy; any truth to that? I think we'd feel better about Deck 2 if we were able to book a stateroom in the middle of Deck 2. I guess our concern is with Deck 2 only because the cabin we are considering is in the front of Deck 2.

As a rule the further forward you are AND the higher up, the more motion you will feel. I never have a problem with it though (if I did, I would not cruise, but that is just me - I don't want to spend my vacation sick or medicated). You are just as likely to have motion on Deck 6 - possibly more as you are higher up.

As far as noise, perhaps some when docking...but most people would be up getting ready for the day at that point anyway.

Is the only Deck 2 cabin in the forward section?

The only oceanview cabins that are available are unfortunately forward on deck and cabin 2010 is the furthest cabin towards the middle of the ship that's left to book.

2010 is only a little bit more forward than 6020...both cabins would be considered forward. My main concern would be 2010's location below a bar on deck 3 - potential for late-night noise there - whereas 6020 has cabins both above and below it, which tends to be quieter.

I have stayed on Deck 2 on Royal Caribbean and had no problem. We are staying on Deck 1 of the Magic next summer.

Generally true. But not always. We've been under the lounges on deck 2 and on decks with staterooms above and below. The room we had on the deck between stateroom decks was MASSIVELY noisier than any other room we've ever had. Granted this was due to the "perfect storm" of two connecting rooms on one side (where the kids would run laps through the room/verandah and the 3 connecting rooms on the other where someone just loved to jump off the top bunk (a lot). And there were at least two groups of people on the deck above who apparently felt the only way to get down the passageway was running foot races (even late at night).

Also, 2010 is technically not directly underneath the bar - it is just forward of it.

Also the bar in question is Keys... Not sure how noisy or rowdy that one gets late. I don't typically think of piano bars being super loud.

Thanks for your reply. I checked out the bar above cabin 2010. It's called the Keys and it's a piano bar and from what I read it's usually quiet. You are right that cabin 6020 is also forward but it's not as far forward and 4 decks higher. We are mostly concerned about the rocking of the ship being so low and far forward in cabin 2010. It's very tempting to save $700 though

As noted, the "rocking" will be more noticeable higher up than lower. Think of a box floating on the water. As it rocks, the part of the box further away from the waterline will move further.

On the Magic, we prefer the higher decks and have always been on deck 8. I am extremely sensitive to motion, and the only places I've been affected are in the restaurants and theatres on deck 3 and 4. We love the higher decks bc we are constantly running up the stairs to deck 9 with the pools, Cabanas, quick serve and beverage station. That's very important to us. Maybe decide where you think you'll want to have easy access to as well.

being so low

Keep in mind that it is the second public deck, there are non-public decks further below. So deck 2 is actually more "central" top-to-bottom than deck 6.

We have cruised in a relatively forward stateroom and felt no difference in movement. It was nice to have the "quieter" forward elevators (compared to the always busy midship elevators).

Enjoy your cruise!

Thanks! We ended up switching to the room on the second deck because of everyone's helpful comments and the savings over the cabin on deck 6. Really appreciate everyone's help!

We have been on eight DCL cruises on decks 6, 7, 8 and 10 on three ships...one stateroom aft, rest forward. We enjoy being higher up on each ship for the view, but you still have to research what is above or near you. Having an Oceanview stateroom you don't have to worry about where the smoking areas are on the ship (as we found out the hard way with a Wonder verandah in Alaska). Noise above can be an issue with chairs moving and foot traffic. We never experienced enough rocking to make us use medication. People/kids running up and down stairs or hallways is going to happen and can be reported to guest services if it continues. Other than that, we like to be forward because the elevators are lightly used up there and we are very close to the adult areas (3 cruises were without grandkids). Also, we walk about everywhere and appreciate the MDRs being a long way away so we can work off the Mickey Bars.
For us, any day in any stateroom at sea, traveling with the mouse, is better than being home mowing the yard yet again.

2010 is actually almost under O'Gills but same would apply I would think. Keys and O'Gills don't typically have loud music, I would think that would more likely be Fathoms?

Um...no

O'Gills is on starboard, 2010 is on port side of the ship. In fact 2010 seems to be almost all the way on the forward side of Keys. Much quieter venue.

O'Gills - yes they can get rowdy in there. Especially on Tangled night, when it becomes the Snuggly Duckling.

We had Irish Step Dancers in there during our EBTA. Could be an issue overhead.

Deck 2 is great....have stayed on Deck 2 several times and there is no issue being down lower than higher. All hallways are decorated the same and there is no stigma to being on Deck 2 as opposed to higher decks.

I LOVE Deck 2.

What are your concerns?

Absolutely. Deck 2 on the classic ships is a bit of heaven. Quiet, but seems convenient to everything. Views from the porthole cabins are just as pretty as anywhere else...and for an expansive view you go on deck anyway. We have always chosen a ocean view near the rear stairwells and loved it every time.
