I have read in several places on here about the stateroom door decorations...where in the world do you find the magnetic paper?
I have yet to find it...

TIA!
Kathy:wave2:

We bought ours at Office Depot. They're called Magnet Sheets and are 8 1/2" x11". They were rather expensive - I'm sure you could probably find an on-line source that was cheaper.

Kathy-

Sheets of magnet "paper" are sold where office supplies are found. I have found them at WalMart, Office Depot, the local discount store BiMart. They are sold in a package of five, for about five dollars, or so. I understand that you run them through your printer, just like paper. I've used them in the past, and also special backed paper and fabric that goes through the printer. I found them in the same area as the packages of labels that you print. If you cannot find a source, and don't want more than 2 or 3 sheets, I'd be glad to track mine down and send some off for your cruise.

Marilee.....still cold and shivering in Oregon, but the snow is finally gone

Marilee, That is very kind of you to offer, but let me check around some first. I checked in WalMart here & they only had these 'strips' of magnet...like maybe 8 in long x 1-2 in. Alyssa & I are making something for our door & I think I may need a bit more than that to hold this, lol. I'm not for sure what I am supposed to be making either, but I sure am making it!

I may check at Office Depot too, I dont know for sure if this is supposed to be covered all over the back or just its and bits of it...

BTW- I didnt know this stuff can be run thru a printer, heck that would make it a whole lot easier... we found a pic of something that I want to use & we printed it, then we drew it freehand on the posterboard. I was going to let the kids paint it or else use magic markers on it...

Oh well, some food for thought here...
Thanks a bunch,
Kathy
:wave2: still cold & shivering in Pa, we are expected more snow for the next 4 days, Yay! ::MinnieMo I like it! ;)

Do you get free magnets from businesses? On my fridge right now I have a schedule magnet from a minor league baseball team, a tooth shaped magnet bearing my dentist's phone number, a pizza magnet, one from Eckerd's pharmacy, another from Eckerd's photo counter, and one from JC Penny's hair salon. I'm sure you have these too -- or could find them lying next to check out counters.

Just print up whatever you want on stout paper and glue it to these freebie magnets. You can cut these thin magnets easily with scissors to make little "spots" for behind your designs -- the whole back needn't be covered. If you want some extra security, have your stuff laminated at a local copy shop before gluing on your magnets.

Kathy,

I just made an 8 1/2" x 11" sign for the door and printed it right on the magnet sheet. As Marilee said you just run the magnet through the printer. If you are wanting a larger sign for your door, MrsPete's idea of glueing freebie magnets to your sign would work also and the price is right too. I'm not sure on the size of the doors to the cabins but it seemed like they were narrower than a hotel type door.

Have fun on your cruise!!!!

Gail

Kathy, I don't know if you have seen these magnets that I made for our door last August, but all these large magnets are the 8.5" X 11" full sheet size that was printed from my printer. I also printed off the smaller magnets, but the company that I bought them through went out of business. I got the larger size magnets sheets at Staples. Have fun with it.

OK Good Idea Mrs Pete! I'll have to use that idea ...if I can't figger the rest of this out, lol

But what are youns guys printing out?..., I dont want to sound so stupid but are you making something on the computer first and then printing it out onto this magnet material??
I'm such a ditz when it comes to things like this, lol

Angelina's pic is awesome Andy... I am trying to do one for Alyssa similiar to that. :)

And, Gail, that size is fine with me... We freehand drew a pic Alyssa and I found online and printed out of the puter. We did it the hard way i think. LOL. I was going to get her to paint it too, lol
Poor kid!!
Heck I didnt have any idea where to start ...

Thanks guys, your keeping me going with this, lol...Thank You!!

Kathy ::yes::

Yes, I first make a design with my Print Shop program than I print it off on the magnet sheet.

Oh, ok, I dont know if I have a print shop program, LOL, all I know how to do is turn this thing on and type with it,
Anyways, thanks a bunch for the info!

Kathy,

You definately did do it the hard way, I find it hard enough to write my name let alone draw something freehand - I bet it looks nice!!!!!

Verandah man has alot of neat ideas for door magnets and tee shirts alike. He was very helpful in e-mailing me pictures of everything he has done so I could get some ideas. For our cruise in September we made buttons for everyone in our group and door magnet signs for our birthday people. My sister liked the idea of the door magnet sign - she said it helped her to find her room!!!

We did the same as Verandah Man and made the design and then printed it out on the magnet sheet. Very easy to do!!

Gail

I think it looks very nice myself, especially since I now know we did it the hard way...
I am patiently waiting for the next Disney catalog to come in the mail, I am going to see what they have available in there in the way of teeshirts.:) I like that idea!
I looked at them at Christmas time and liked those ones, how can ya not like anything Disney, lol::yes::

How did you do your buttons Gail?

Kathy
:wave2:

I just bought those plastic round buttons that you can get at Michael's. You've probably seen people with them with their kids pictures in them. We printed the Captain Mickey in the middle of it with the words "The Crusin' Gang" around the top and "September 2003" at the bottom. Ok, Ok, I got the idea from Verandah Man's round magnet!!!!!:teeth: For my sister who was having a birthday I added a strip of ribbon hanging from the button with stickers on it that said Happy Birthday. I just hot glued the ribbon to the back of the button. Check Verandah Man's site - he has made a bunch of tee shirts and sweatshirts for their trips. You can use any kind of clip art and print them on these iron on transfers and then iron them onto the shirt. They come out really cute. You can buy the iron on paper at the office supply stores too.

Gail

I just love those door magnets....what a lot of fun!
Maybe my 'crew' will all design a loga we could use for our stateroom doors.......and to all - thanks for a great idea!

My D Sis-I-L decorated my parents door for their 50th anniversary cruise last year....but this is FABULOUS!
:jester:

OK kids...:) Heres a good question for youns that have done this before..
Am I allowed to make this door decoration 3D?

oh and btw- I checked at Michaels and got the buttons, now to figure out how to get a pic on here is beyond me! LOL

TIA~
