State of Fast Pass Return (or replacement)

You don’t grow a company without any thought for the long term. That’s not how business works. You have to balance the short and long term.
In an ideal world yes, but someone that is making millions as the CEO of a company is concerned about what happens now, most of these guys are sharks and dont care if the company is around in 20 years or not. What they care about is getting their bonuses.

Do you think Bob Chapek will be able to sleep at night in 20 years if being the CEO of Disney maybe him 10s of millions of dollars because of his short term goals, but poor planning with long term goals puts the company in a very spot? I bet hed sleep like a baby.

It’s not just in an ideal world; it’s the reality of business. It isn’t a choice. If you neglect the long term, your company stops growing.
This is why Disney is investing massively in Epcot, building TRON, etc.

If you want to speculate about the return of Fast Pass in some form - great, as that is the purpose of the thread.

If you want to argue endlessly about Disney long term planning, effectiveness of the CEO, or anything else - this thread will be closed like its predecessor.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Disney likely knows and probably have the mountains of data to back it up that when it comes to their most loyal visitors, they have them regardless of what they do. They've changed so many things over the years (be it with their price increases, changes to how they try to manage crowds, their transporation, dining experiences etc. etc.) that many times prompt a "That's it. This time I'm done." And I'd wager that for a small few that ends up being true, but for the vast majority of fanatics they keep going back.

Maybe I'm wrong and it'll be different this time with this new round of changes being done and long-term they will be hurt, but if I were a betting man I'm not betting against the mouse.

Don’t forget all the new Disney addicts who develop after they take their first family trip to WDW. They’ve never knew anything different than what they experienced on their first trip.

Us experienced visitors are being replaced. They’re grooming a new audience to enjoy a new experience.

We got to experience a short lived “paid fast pass” system during two trips pre-covid.

We stayed on Club Level and were able to spend $50 per person per day to add three extra fastpasses. We also gained access to special firework and parade viewing spots in every park, saved for you by a friendly cast member scanning bands to assure exclusivity. No need to stake out a spot.

Those fastpasses we got to book 90 days in advance and they could be cross-park and ignored tiers (could book both Frozen and Soarin for instance) so basically created a flawless vacation with Disney Signature Services months in advance.

It was only available on Club Level but they were intending to extend it to anyone staying at a 3-bedroom Grand Villa.

I know it is selfish but that is EXACTLY what I want back!!! Once they announced the Grand Villa extension we were planning to pull the trigger on DVC.

Of course then the world stopped.
This!

Back to FP rumors... Anyone else think the DVC guest services shutdown starting Saturday is tied in to the FP integration? Remy suggested as much before disappearing. Its all tied in together and there will be tiers with onsite having different privileges than offsite.

I think he also said decisions would be made around mid-Julyish so fingers crossed maybe some news next week!

One thing driving me nuts is that I am holding back on certain purchases (like memory maker) in case I need to swap my budget toward some fast passes. I just want to know the plan!

Fall appears to be painfully busy and I am a firm believer they wont allow NO fastpass for the 50th so my guess is if whatever tests are happening go well, even if they have to abandon AP etc for now, we hear something in the next few weeks.

Something else to consider. They may announce with next to no notice. Disney does not want to cannibalize their own sales... meaning they don't want people rebooking/ cancelling for later dates because they feel they are missing out. Thats why we have a slow drip of 50th announcements right now. They are really pulling in a lot of guests this summer and they haven't for the better part of a decade.

Why on earth would Disney simply not bother to try to hire entertainers? That honestly makes zero sense. Unless you’re contending that a multi-billion dollar company is doing things that make zero sense and undercut the core of their brand (aka entertainment)?

Because it costs money and doesnt bring in money?

No... Disney laid off the majority of their performance CM's due to Covid, they have to now go out and hire that talent fresh, train all the backstage/ behind the scenes CM's, Make sure all the equipment for the shows still works since it hasn't run for nearly 2 years, have multiple ranks of cast so they can run shows 6-12 times a day every day. Disney does put together quality shows. Closest equivalent is Broadway and the earliest any of those shows are coming back is September, some not until December. There have been casting calls put out, but it takes time.

Right. They put together Broadway quality shows. I think the Lion King Broadway show was adapted from the WDW Festival of the Lion King. It’s a huge ordeal.
