Starwood question about Dolphin reservation

We have reservations at the Dolphin in my husbands name so we can get the government rate but the Starwood card is in my name (I did give them my # when I made the reservation). Following Glo's advise, I went to fill out preferences at the Starwood site and and when I finished clicked on the check reservation button. It said nothing was in our last name under this number. When I called Starwood they said they would have to change the reservation to my name for the number to be attached to the reservation. Well, I was afraid to do this since my husband is the one who works for the state. He said the number was noted on my reservation, but I would have to bring it to their attention at check-in to make sure the points were credited to my account. Will this make us less likely to get an upgrade (I know this isn't always possible)? When do they look at these preferences (when you check in or before hand)? Does this make sense to anybody? Any suggestions are appreciated.

We had a similar dilemna...starwood in my name...husband a teacher. We put the ressie in both of our names! The reservation says William and Jennifer...so we are both covered. Good luck!

You know what I do?? I call the Swan or the Dolphin directly after my ressie is made and have them add my Starwoods card number to my reservation. It has never been a problem.

Of course, I also always show my card at check-in, anyway, just as a silent reminder about that upgrade ;).

I never use that online preferences form; instead I call and ask to add my preferences to my ressie and ask, nicely, again at check-in. As "Do you hapen to have any rooms with...fill in the blanks....available, do you?"
Works every time.

Good luck!

We had this same problem last year with the teacher's discount. I made the reservations and joined Starwood. My daughter is the teacher and they told me no problem with getting the discount even though they were in my name. I asked if I should change them to her name, but they said no that it wasn't necessary. Plus my daughter was only staying 4 nights and we were staying 10. They told me that the discount would apply for the full time we were there even though she was checking out early. We had no problem with checking in, plus we got an upgrade to a waterview with a balcony without asking. They never even asked for her pay stub, even though I had it in my hand at check in and was ready to show it to them.
:)

My Platinum SPG card is in my name only, and in my "business name", which is not representative of my married name. I have NEVER had any problems with the Dolphin in obtaining points or discounts. If, for some odd reason you were not issued points for your stay, you merely send a copy of the portfolio to SPG and they will amend it ASAP.

Also, make sure BOTH of your names are listed on the reservation (AS Jen pointed out..:D). I'm sure you will not have any problems at the check-in. Explain the situation, show your SPG card, etc. Your husband can also show his Gov't. ID when requested to obtain your discounted room. Have a wonderful time, and enjoy all the benefits of Starwood PG and the Dolphin! ;)
