So I have finally made the decision to do something for myself. I just turned 40 last month and am almost 200 lbs. I sooo don't want to be 40 and fat. I just signed up online for WW and my first meeting is tonight at 6:00.

I purchased the summer pass program for $129. Prepaid meetings until the end of Aug, Celebrations cookbook, lunchbag, and I don't remember what else.

What are some beginner tips for a newbie to be succesful? Are there any must haves I should purchase right from the start?

TIA

My first/biggest suggestion would be a good food scale. I used an old cheap WW spring scale for many, many, many years. Last year I finally asked for a good digital food scale for my birthday and now I don't know how I ever lived without it! $50 at Target and money well spent! You can make do without, but I strongly suggest it. Also, extra measuring cups and spoons. I used a tablespoon measure several times a day (salad dressing, peanut butter, etc). and I was tired of continually searching for a clean one or having to wash one.

Good walking/running shoes. You must get in the habit of moving at least 30 minutes a day 3-4 days per week. It may sound daunting right now, if you aren't a regular exerciser... but it is a necessity for good health and weight loss. Walking is a great way to start. Even if you don't love it, it WILL be become a healthy habit eventually!!

Get in the habit FROM THE START of journaling every bite. It makes a huge difference. And try to write it BEFORE you bite it! It is easy to forget a few bites/nibbles here and there throughout the course of the day.

Best of luck.......................P

cyber high five!! your attitude is awesome

drink your water....drink your water....drink you water....

First... Congratulations Tia on joining WW. WW is a great program and if your dedicated, you'll definitely suceed. I agree with everything pjila said, especially good shoes. Maybe even a nice workout outfit would be good too. I find if I feel good with what I'm wearing, I tend to workout a little harder. Weird I know ;)

I had lost 65 pounds with WW over 3 years ago, but got lazy and gained about 50 back in the last three years. My one suggestion is to write EVERYTHING down. It's amazing how those little bites here and there will add up. I rejoined WW in January and am down 29 so far. I do the eTools now and its the best.

Good luck to you:thumbsup2

I had some great success when I went to meetings years and years ago. I very much wish I could afford them again but not happening any time soon. I lost 40 lbs in 20 weeks. :thumbsup2 I tried to keep it up with online plan because I really didn't have time for meetings. I should have probably found a weekend meeting because the online just didn't work out for me. I ended up stopping. Tried online again but still no go. The meetings were you are accountable to go to that weigh in is very important.

I purchased the cup and half cup spoons they sell. GREAT items for portion control. :thumbsup2 I'd say a scale would be useful too. Drink lots and lots of water it helps cut down on fluctuations due to water retention. Plus it can be a natural apptetite suppressant for many.
