Hi everyone - I've been on the Dis a while, but finally made my way over here to the WISH board. Finally decided to bite the bullet and start WW - my SIL started a couple of weeks ago, and she says it's been pretty easy to follow the points system, so I'm giving it a shot - DD is almost one year old - it's time to get rid of that baby weight!

For now I'm just doing it online - my schedule is kind of hectic to fit meetings in. So, I figured I'll use the boards to keep me accountable!

For anyone one WW, I have a couple of questions I'm having a hard time finding on the WW web site. They concern the water, veggies, & milk requirements that you should meet each day. I can't find anything that tells me what exactly equals one serving of each of those. For example, does the piece of cheese I had on my sandwich count as as serving of dairy? And how many vegetable servings are met by eating a medium-size salad? And, lastly, how many ounces equal a serving of water?
 
Welcome to WISH!! :) It is always nice to have another WW'er around. I really LOVE the program and I hope it will be successful for you as well.

I actually just do WW on my own with WISH for support and I find that I don't really need the meetings as long as I check in here daily. :)

I believe a serving of water is 8 oz.

The serving size for cheese according to my food guide is:

1 slice, 1 (1") cube, 3 Tbsp shredded, 2 Tbsp grated or 3/4 oz for 2 points

I would count a slice of cheese as a dairy requirement.

My book defines a serving of lettuce as 1 cup. I usually use at least 2 cups in mine so I would count 2 vegtable servings. The extra veggies I would probably just not count unless there were a lot.

I think in the new FLEX POINT WW first week book they explain everything even better than before.

Veggies - Leafy Vegetables like lettuce and spinach, one cup is 1 serving. For all other fruits and vegetables, 1/2 cup is a serving.

For dairy- I was always told that it must equal 25% calcium in one serving to equal a milk product.

The new book says -
From the nutritionist.........calcium-rich foods and milk servings aer often thought of as one and the same. Not ture! Milk is a food made from a combination of nutrients, whereas calcium is just one nutrient in that combination.

Milk and Milk products are packed with "got to have it" nutrition. Boasting a good source of protein, zinc, riboflavin, and vitamin D (if fortified), not to mention being a major source of calcium, milk can contribute to a healthy weight loss.


Calcium Rich foods:
Cappuccino, 1 grande 16fl oz - counts as a milk serving
Cottage cheese, 2 cups - counts as a milk product
Hard or semi- soft any type 11/2 oz- counts as a milk product
riccotta 1/2 cup - counts as a milk product
Dairy Shake, reduced calorie 1 packet- Counts as a milk serving
Latte, 1 tall 12 fl oz - counts
meal replacement drinks - count
NOT meal replacement BARS
milk shake 12fl oz
pudding made with milk
yogurt 1 cup

I just checked with the old 1st week book and it say's If your not getting enough calcium, consider taking a supplement or choosing foods that provide the calcium equivalent to a serving of milk (25% or more of the Percent Daily Value or Recommended daily intake).

It looks like they are backing away from a milk being anything with 25% or more.

Hopefully this helps, although I am more confused now than every!! LOL!

Water - The books say at least 6. I would say 6-8 is a good start.
