DH and I are starting induction tomorrow. What should I be expecting? In your experience, how were the first days? Headaches? Grumpiness? Cravings? I love reading the success stories here. Thanks for the help.

Hi NCRedding

My husband and I both began induction on 1/9/03. I had no withdrawal, he did. At about 9PM of day four he came in the door and announced, "I feel good." So his withdrawal lasted 4 days then he had more energy than ever before.

I never felt any different. We have a lot of controlled carbohydrate people here on WISH who had withdrawal. I'm sure they will be sharing their experiences in a while.

Will you be joining my support group? I sure hope so, it's such a help to me. The WISH support group has helped me so much, I'm sure they would be helpful for you too.

Will you be taking the WISH challenge? It’s fun. All you have to do is to post your intention to take the challenge on THIS POST. Then you can add the member clipart and every time you lose 5 pounds you get to “trade up” to a new clipart. It’s sort of fun and motivating.

We have a great support group, here on WISH. I hope you will join us :)

Yes, be expecting it all, that way if it doesn't happen- yuo'll be happy and surprised! Don't froget to drink all the water you're supposed to and make sure you have planned out snacks and foods for those times when you feel like you have to have SOMETHING! Good luck!

NC, I'm on day 6 of induction and I felt like CRAP on days 2 & 3 !! I had a headache nearly all day both of those days, felt a little sluggish on day 4, better still yesterday and today has been wonderful! I found that getting the Atkins canned shakes and Advantage bars to be a life-saver. I was quite hungry the first few days & those helped a lot. I drank a shake in the car on the way to work. Took hard-boiled eggs & canadian bacon for breakfast. (cook up a bunch of hb eggs to have ready!) I had only low-cal salad dressings, so had to go out & buy low-carb (high fat!) dressings. Drink tons of water (if I don't get up twice during the night to "go", I know that I haven't had enough water during the day!) Stick with the induction menu & good luck!

Great job on starting induction. Here's what worked for me (35 pounds off since Feb. 2003...)

Keep your meals simple at first. Eggs, meat, fish, cheese in moderation, and salad vegetables.

Don't be afraid to eat until you are satisfied, but don't go overboard and stuff yourself (easier said than done) :)

Make sure you are drinking a LOT of water. Atkins recommends 8 glasses a day, I drink probably 12-16 a day.

You'll probably suffer from withdrawl until about the 3rd or 4th day, but after that, you should start feeling better, like the others here have reported. Also, after you're on Atkins for a while, you'll find that sugar and flour don't really tempt you like they used to. They still will occasionally, but not as much.

Also, don't go overboard on the Atkins bars, as they cause some people's weight loss to stall out. No more than 1 a day, I would say.

Good luck! You'll find this easier than you expect after a while.

Enjoy your Journey!

Hi!

On my 4th day of Induction, I got very sick and had a really bad headache most of the day, but the very next day I was fine, feeling very good, had lots of energy and was over that part! Just stick with it...no matter how bad you feel, it does get better!! :)

Good Luck!!

Welcome to WISH. I'm not on Atkins, but I wanted to wish you good luck with your induction. We have a lot of knowledgeable Atkins people here - you've definitely come to the right place for support.

I started Friday. My head hurts, and I'm a little grumpy. I only craved a doughnut for a while on Friday. They were on the table, but I resisted. I've been drinking tons of water, so maybe that's helping. I don't feel nearly as awful as I had expected.

Good luck to you!! :D

No advice, just LOTS OF GOOD WISHES!!! :) So many wonderful people have posted here about their success with Atkins! It seems like if you can make it through the first few days/week, then it's all downhill from there! Best of luck to you and get ready to enjoy your new lifestyle and the awesome rewards (like more energy and losing lots of weight!) :)
