Starting a DIS Fantasy Football League

Hey I really want this league to happen. I think my experience level would rank as a pro. I've done fantasy baseball leagues for ten years. This would be about my fifth fantasy football league. I am a very active owner.

Thanks ,

Right now, aside from myself I've heard from 5 others confirming, so it looks like we might be only doing one league at this point.

OK, aside from myself, I've gotten confirmations from 8 people:

Splat25
Paging Tom Morrow
The Grumpus
flyingcat2003
DSWalczak
BostonRob
Mr. Plutes

I'm waiting to hear from Sir-Mickey. Since that would put us at 10, I think we'll be doing a single league. I will take three additional people as "reserves" - two if we decide to go 12 teams, and one more if Sir-Mickey opts out, so PM me with an email address.

I PM'd Pete about a name, but have not gotten a response yet.

In the meantime, for those that are confirmed, what works best for a draft? Live is best, but it requires everyone commit to a time and day, which could be problematic in our situation. I am mostly open, but I am on-call at work through next Tuesday, which means there is a chance I could have to disappear for a bit...and on ESPN's live system you've got a clock, and I don't think ESPNs auto-selection is the best, but its free at least.

Do we want to try it via email? I can set up a mailing list easily enough, but people need to commit to making choices as soon as possible at least, at least a few per day. There are 16 rounds to get through.

I could commit to a live draft pretty much any time except for this saturday or sunday, as long as I have a few days advance notice. If that's the best time for people, I'll set my lists and take my chances. If we want to do an email draft, I can commit to as many picks per day as others can keep up with, but we'd have to get that going ASAP.

E-mail works best for me. I have site restrictions at work that would prevent me from accessing most of these places, and I'm at work most of the day...

I would prefer a live draft, but I will do whatever the group decides. I know a live draft would take a little longer but I think in the long run it would be easier. If for some reason you had to leave during the live draft you can just let the auto-draft pick for your team. ESPN's auto-draft is pretty good and fair.

Thanks

I wouldn't expect to be doing it during a work day. Even though my boss runs our work league, I think he'd rather I be working on things that the company deems important, not me... :) Besides, too many interruptions.

If it was live, it would probably have to be late evening or the weekend to get the most people - I'm not sure how many left coasters are on the list. I know three of us are from MA...

Roll call - Georgia here, Not the one getting invaded!

I'm in MA. I'd prefer a live draft. But I can do email as well. Evenings after about 7:30 are good for me...

well i would still like to join but i think that the times that you would want us online would not work for me (hey we all need our beauty sleep....some of us more than others)as it would be from 12.30 am onwards here in the uk.if you do a game that means i could send my teams with email then please count me in but dont make it hard for others by including me in.

I prefer an online draft at night during ET, however I think the best may just be an autodraft. Everyone is at the same disadvantage going into the draft.

I still can't decide, and I haven't heard from Sir-Mickey yet either. I believe I can still add/delete teams up until draft time though. Need to get the ball rolling.

I don't care for most auto-pick systems - too likely to get a team with all RB reserves...

So far, it seems like we've got at least 5 people on the east coast, which makes a live draft more possible.

If I threw out a possible time - say, 1pm ET on Sunday the 30th, could people reasonably commit to it?

Alternately, if we did it by email, which we need to do ASAP, what would be reasonable? Could everyone commit to at least 4 picks during the course of a day? Those picks could happen throughout the day, but there would need to be some sort of limit, but I'm not sure how to make it fair. Say there is a 9pm ET cutoff, after which it goes into "rapid" mode - person who was most recently on the clock gets an auto-pick, and anyone who can continues picking with a 10 minute clock, auto-picks taking over for anyone who misses the clock? We've got about a week and half, so I suppose we don't need to force it just yet, and a live or autodraft could still be used if it just isn't working.

Actually, I'm liking that more. We can do the email, but if we can't complete it by a certain date (say, a week from Thursday) a live draft becomes necessary and if anyone can't make it they will need to trust the autodraft system.

Seem reasonable?

I'll be in Disney from Saturday through next Friday, which would make an email draft somewhat problematic, but depending on how we do it, I could send picks from my phone.

I, too, will be at Disney on the 30th so I am not available for a live draft that day. But I will take my chances with the auto pick if I'm not available. I am in the Eastern time zone.

An e-mail draft is fine with me too. Basically, I am up for whatever is best for the group.

Thanks for setting this up!

It's always something...what, are you guys Disney fans or someth...oh...wait... :)

If we do email, I can have it set up and we can start tomorrow. Then perhaps at least most of the starting rosters will be filled for you need to take off. ESPN doesn't have a mobile interface to their draft that I can see, but if you wanted to do it via email by phone, that's up to you. I could probably send to you separately with a rundown of picks taken, so you only need to receive/send one message (and perhaps a confirmation from me) per round if it really came to that.

I'm practically always connected (and since I'm on call for the next week, trapped).

Everyone can provide me their auto-pick list, or I can default to the ESPN Top 200.

I'd say go ahead and do the email draft and start it asap. If you've ever been a commishioner before, you know that there's no way to please all the people all the time, but I would think an email draft started asap would be the fairest to the largest number of people. But as I've said, I'll adapt to any format.
BTW, is there a site to log onto yet?
