hi!

I booked a hotel without free wifi connection, because I thought I wouldn't use it but now it turns out to be that i'll need it.

Is there a Starbucks near DL where we can have a coffee and use free wifi? or any other place within walking distance with free wifi?

We might be visiting the La Brea Mall and their website says they offer free wifi, but I'd love to know if there are other places.

I still might use the Anabella hotel wifi paying the charges but, since I need the wifi for something quite stupid I'm not willing to pay for the connection if I can avoid that.

Just to let you know, I'll need wifi to download books from Amazon.com. I made the mistake of buying a Kindle in NYC and an Amazon.com giftcard to download books from home without the hassle of giving them my credit card number and stuff (I avoid online credit card transactions whenever possible)... and now Amazon.com doesn't allow users to download ebooks from abroad without a credit card, even if they have gift cards registered. So I need to make those $50 worth it and I have to download as many ebooks as I can as to leave the account balance as near as $0 as possible... while I stay in the US :goodvibes

Internet Access

The Disneyland Resort hotels now offer both wired and wireless high-speed Internet access, free to guests.

I found that in the public areas of the Grand Californian, I could access the Wi-Fi without a password. This may be true at the other Disney hotels as well.

Internet access is also available for guests who do not have laptops at each hotel's Business Center, where you'll find desktop computers for your use.

Hope this helps!

What about the airport?

DH used the connection while sitting in the lobby of the Grand. A very pleasant place to sit (though I don't like staying there).

to try to ease your mind, amazon has, as far as I know, just about the most robust CC security that exists. Absolutely incredible security. When someone hacked into zappos, they got ONLY what was on the zappos systems; nothing that was protected by amazon.

Hope you enjoy Anabella! We absolutely love our stays there, short as they've been. The pool is *beautiful*!

Hubby, who works in the department, suggests buying the books to *download to your computer*, which should work even from your home, even buying from amazon.com with the giftcard.

Then you transfer the book to your kindle using a USB cord (something we did just last night, because for some reason two library books I borrowed weren't available for wireless downloading).

I was at the Disneyland Hotel's Tangaroa Terrace a couple of weeks ago, and I was able to use the wi-fi there, and did not need to put a password in.

Thank you so much! But i tried that yesterday and it didn't work, i still got the message "you're trying to download from another country, go to manage your kindle and change country if you don't live in the U.S.

Of course i'd do just that, and actually i did, the same day i registered my kindle. But, the gift card only seems to work in amazon.com . Amazon.es (amazon spain ) doesn't seem to recognise that i had funds in the u.s. account :( . I'll try once again and i'll let you know. Thank your DH from my part please :)

Thank you all of you for the replies! I'll try the spots you all suggested!

And if you do insist on Starbucks (I actually love them down here in Mexico) there is one at the Hilton which is near the Anabella. We, too, have never had issues with the Grand California wifi in its lobby.

Thanks, I'll try the GCH first and I'll see if it works.
Confirmed, I'm still having the same issue. I tried downloading free books to my PC but it leads me to a page where I have to choose where I'll be transferring the book to. And of course I have to choose my Kindle, or register a new one. When I do, I get the message again "You're trying to download from another country". I guess I'll have to spend a little time in a wifi spot to download books and leave my account balance as closest to $0 as I can.

When I get back home I'll transfer the Kindle to Amazon Spain and I'll see how to download books from there... since Amazon Spain still doesn't support the latest Kindle Touch (yes... absolutely incredible!)

If I get to the airport early I'll try the Wifi there but we'll have travelled for like 24 hours straight and we'll be living zombies. I don't know if we'll have the strenght to stay in the airport for a bit longer :rotfl: And we'll still have the trip to the Anabella hotel left... plus the check-in process. I don't know if we'll survive :lmao:

Thanks a lot everyone!

I've just let my husband know of what you said; maybe he'll have more advice for you. He just got back to work yesterday after a 2 week work trip (he actually tests the kindles all over the world) and a 2 week vacation, so he's having to catch up with everything right now!

wow thank you so much!!!

Still, tell him not to mind my case much. Since we'll be in the U.S. next week (not too far away from today, yay!) I'll be able to download books from there, even if I have to pay for the Wi-fi. If for any reason I can't do that I'll see if I can buy something from Amazon.com and have it shipped home, or even to the hotel.

After I return home I'll have no other choice but to transfer the account to amazon.es and deal with what they offer there (not much, compared to all the e-books the U.S. version offers). I got a reply from amazon.es today and they told me i'll be able to download ebooks from their site, but it'll have to be through my PC, and then the kindle will sync by itself via wifi. Still a bummer, but at least i'll be able to use my kindle and get more books :D
