Starbucks coming to WDW theme parks

I just read an article about the best food in WDW on msn.com a couple weeks ago and they mentioned Joffrey's coffee. I've never had it, but do you think Starbucks will replace that?

I like the idea of them coming to the parks and hopefully they are successful and they start placing them in the actual Resorts.

I would love to be able to grab a good cup of coffee on my way out to the bus stop and be able to drink it while waiting and on the bus and then be able to dispose of the cup before entering the parks so we wouldnt have to carry around the mugs all day just because we want coffee in the morning.

Just a note that drinking beverages on Disney buses is officially not allowed.

(Yes, we've all seen guests do it.)

Some drivers will tell guests just to HOLD the drink until they exit the bus.
Some drivers won't allow guests to BOARD the bus with a drink cup with liquid in it.
Some drivers may ignore the situation entirely.

Just sayin'.

A REAL coffee fan wouldn't drink Starbucks. I've found their mediocre coffee overpriced and even a Disney coffee kiosk in the parks was slightly better! Like the ones who say they don't understand why Duffy is popular, I don't understand why Starbucks is popular. Their coffee is nothing to shout about. I've tried tons of mom-and-pop coffee shops and over half of them make much better tasting coffee every time. The problem is that the mindless people refuse to support them so they go out of business. Starbucks is just like McDonalds: more hot air hyped marketing than actual substance. And before you cry that Starbucks is the "best" I've given them one last shot. I tried a cup last year and the year before. NOT worth the 5-minute wait in line and the steep price.

Where did you hear this? Do you know when it will open?

The Disney Parks Blog is announcing today that six Starbucks locations are coming, one each for the four Florida parks and two California parks.

The one for California Adventure is opening in June and the specific location for that one is part of the announcement today. There isn't any location or date information for the other parks yet.

I'm gonna make a safe bet on the locations:

MK and DL: Main Street
Epcot: The Land
DHS: Hollywood Blvd.
AK: Near the enterance

You just made the argument why they wouldn't put them in the resorts. They don't want people to stop buying the mugs. I'm sure they're a big money-maker.

Anyway...I would have much preferred Dunkin' Dounts or a few other choices rather than $tarbuck$. I never cared for their coffe. Always tasted very bitter and burnt.

I love Starbucks and I'm happy to finally be able to get a GOOD cup of coffee at WDW! The offerings currently fail to impress me every time. :thumbsup2

Does that mean they'll be getting rid of the beverage they jokingly consider coffee in the resort rooms?

This is great.. even though its bad for you (yes i have heard it a million times) I would always grab a Monster energy from the foodcourt in the morning and rely on 5 hour energys (i bring with me) in the afternoon.

Starbucks is awesome. Now I wonder where they will feature them in the parks? Hopefully near the entrances.

I wonder, though, will the people working these stores be Disney CMs or Starbucks baristas? I've known some folks who worked for Starbucks, and it's a whole program--practically a cult. It seems hard to imagine Starbucks giving up that control, but then, it's even harder to imagine Disney letting staff serve people within their parks if they aren't trained as CMs. And in my experience, Starbucks baristas are nowhere near Disney levels on their service. They tend to come across as arrogant and rude to me, in many (of course, not all) cases.

I'll speculate that these will be licensed Starbucks locations with Disney CMs operating them.

Ooops, never mind about my question...I read the blog.

So it looks like every park gets a Starbucks, DL, DCA, MK, Epcot, AK, DHS.

Too bad there aren't plans to add any to the resorts, but that's ok. We usually hit the parks pretty early anyways. :thumbsup2

There is no information about when the locations will open. The one for California Adventure will likely be this summer though, as the specific location for that one is part of the announcement today.

Didn't the Disney Parks Blog post linked by the OP say that the California Adventure location would open in June, and be the first location to open?

Yep; just checked it. Here's a quote:

"
In June, the first of six planned Starbucks locations is scheduled to open at Disney California Adventure park. And more locations are planned at Disneyland park and Walt Disney World Resort (Magic Kingdom Park, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom).

The Starbucks locations inside our parks will be designed to fit the theme of their surroundings. At Disney California Adventure park, Starbucks will be located in the Fiddler, Fifer and Practical Café on Buena Vista Street, a place that transports guests to 1920s Los Angeles, when Walt Disney arrived in California and a cup of coffee was the perfect way to jumpstart a busy day. The store’s location plays off the Spanish/Mexican architecture of the period, and baristas will wear 1920s-inspired attire.
"

I'm a bit torn on the idea. I try not to go to Starbucks unless absolutely necessary. I live in a small town without one, and we have an INCREDIBLE locally owned coffee shop. I am a DAILY customer there...it's my "Cheers" -- everybody knows my name! When I go to Starbucks I feel like I am cheating on my Baker's Sweets! Though if I am desperate need of coffee and that's my only choice. But I do like McD's coffee better than Starbucks. As a PP said...it tastes burnt and bitter...I have to get part hot water in it, and load it with splenda and cream.

For Epcot it's trickey - they have space.. but not the right "kind" of space to use.

For what they're going for in terms of thise deal.. and especially with Starbucks branding/theme stuff and the Disney announcement for DCA - not small "kiosk" overbuild locations. That's what the Jeoffrey/Joffreys (which is it?) locations were. That's the kiosks at American Aventure, Energy, World Showplace, etc..

It seems unlikely Starbucks would want those.

So for a real location the first choice is the Fountain View (formally the Fountainview Espresso Bakery and Cafe by NesCafe) but.. the Fountainview is extremely popular right now as an ice cream shop and sponsored by Edys. It has lines even in the middle of winter.

Which leave us...?

They aren't going to put it in the Electric Umbrella - though that location did once have a seperate portion toward the Mousegear end called Beverage Base, the building just isn't physically arranged to handle it anymore since they made it into Innoventions. The Land seems unlikely too - as the scatter service wouldn't give Starbucks any real presence or a "location" accessible outside the pavilion.

We don't like to hoof it up the hill to get fastpasses, why would we want to in order to get coffee?

Which leaves... Odyssey? Maybe? Kind of a huge location to support a Starbucks, but they did have those plans they -announced- and then dropped for an internet cafe at the Odyssey for the previous Food and Wine festival. So.. that's a "maybe."

Oops, right, I edited my post so that it says June for DCA. :thumbsup2
